@gabead Amy's first album came out in 1978, I believe. She was signed as a Christian Artist with the intent of being one, though she wasn't personally seeking that. By 1983 when Stryper started, Amy won a Grammy for her 6th album Age to Age. Michael W Smith was her keyboard player....saw them in concert. He opened for her by himself on stage and later branched off on his own with his first album The Michael W Smith Project

It's their business but they publicly broke vows, cheated on their spouses, then got married and (from their interviews) tried to pretend there was nothing weird about it. Baby Baby is from the early 90s but if you're a 2000s pop fan this song works for you too. Another 90s pop song you'd probably like is "Crush" by Jennifer Paige

Amy Grant was a 90s icon with her music! She started as a Christian singer, and went from doing a song with Peter Cetera in the 80s Next Time I Fall In Love. Then she became her own star. This was her big hit. This song was originally about her little baby. Of course to sell the record she had to conform to make it a love song.

One of my faves is a duet with Amy Grant and Peter Cetera (of Chicago fame, then had his own career) called, "Next Time I Fall." Super sweet, super romantic. Definitely check it out sometime.

Over-saturation is an understatement with this song. You couldn't escape "Baby Baby" in the early 90s on Soft Rock stations, in the morning, afternoon or evening. It was also played in most dentists offices, fabric stores, grocery stores and any other place with piped-in music. In my mind, I still believe most places still have this song.

Amy Grant started as a contemporary Christian artist, and had crossover hit in 1985 with "Find A Way." Then in 1986 she was part of a duet with Peter Cetera that hit #1: "The Next Time I Fall." Then in 1991 she crossed over to pop with this song which hit #1. She had other major hits on this same album "Every Heartbeat", "Good For Me", "That's What Love Is For", "I Will Remember You."

This was huge on MTV, played over and over. This is pop but she evolved into country, blue grass & Christian music, has won 6 Grammy awards. I'm not into all of her music but this one is super catchy and cute, and I waited on the cute guy in the video in LA, while it was on MTV all the time..so cute!

You waited on Jamie Stein? The Baby Baby hunk? LOL Jelly! He is also in her cute video song "Good For Me" same kind of vibes but at the beach. Also, Amy is not considered a "country" artist , but she has covered and performed some country-ish tunes occasionally especially with hubby Vince Gill at the Grand Ole Opry. I read she doesn't consider herself a country singer, more folk/pop/rock genre. She sometimes gets introduced as a country singer but it's not accurate. :)

@@jco6528 I didn't know his name, but recognized him from the video that was on MTV 24/7, lol. He was sitting at the bar at a famous old school Hollywood place I was working called Formosa Cafe. If I remember correctly he was working at The Ivy at the time, a very famous celebrity restaurant. He was talking to our bartender about stuff. Yeah, I got to wait on tons of famous people & it was a very low key place, everone acted like normal people. Waited on Brad Pitt right before Thelma & Louise came out but knew him from tv. Very cute!! Great times. Yeah, I can see she's not really country & I totally forgot she's married to Vince Gill!

So glad you all got to Amy Grant! I loved her music. She was really big during this time period. This song was off the album "Heart in Motion" and she made it into a No 1 pop single. You'd also like "Every Heartbeat". She also paired up with Peter Cetera in 1986 and got her first No 1 song "The Next Time I Fall". Peter Cetera used to be lead singer for the band Chicago.

Love Amy! Besides being a great singer/songwriter she is an awesome human being with a heart of gold. She was just honored at the Kennedy Center Honors in December with Gladys Knight and U2. :) She does many great philantrophic works and is the most loving accepting person who came out of the CCM genre. She was the "queen of Christian pop" in the 80's. This was her big pop breakthrough with this song hitting number 1 and staying there a couple of weeks in 1991. :) So fun, perfect summer song. Yes, she came from CCM but don't get it wrong, she is not judgemental and in fact, she was condemed by the super conservative church. They totally cancelled her when she crossed over and then later in 2000 when she got a divorce and married Vince Gill. She has been nothing but loving through it all...super classy lady with some great songs! Check out this fun remix of some of her huge hits! This is a total fun dance remix.. the editing is incredbile .. this was to celebate the 30th anniversary of Baby Baby and Heart In Motion the album it was on! Heart In Motion was nominated for 4 grammies in 1992, including Album of the year, Record of the Year, Best Female performance and song of the year for Baby Baby. :) Check out this fun remix! It's so cool, the edit! you will love it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZubmKuvnJqJbLc

As others have said, she started out as a contemporary Christian music but then did this crossover album and gave us some great pop songs. I remember when this came out that a lot of her fans weren't as appreciative of this album...too much of a departure from her Christian music...as if as an artist she can't branch out and still remain true to who she is. Amy was recently inducted as a Kennedy center honoree. You should check that out so you get a proper backstory to her rise to fame. She's amazing. She suffered a major biking accident last summer and had a head injury that sometimes affects her memory but luckily she was wearing a helmet or it could've been so much worse. She recently had to have a cyst removed from her throat that had been impacting her singing. Two years before that she had open heart surgery to correct a birth defect. Her faith has kept her strong and her music is a beautiful reflection of who she is.

You know Amy Grant's inspiration for writing this song was her six week old daughter Millie, and she said it took her just 10 minutes to write the lyrics. Now when I hear this song I can just imagine it being song to a baby (or anyone a person really cares about).

Amy Grant won the Kennedy Center Honor this year. She's been considered the Queen of Christian Pop for many years. At one point in the 80s she did a crossover duet with Peter Cetera of "The Next Time I Fall" and then a few years later released this album with this song about her daughter. She caught some flack from the Christian music community but it eventually blew over. She is also known for her Christmas concert tours. Amy is married to Vince Gill. Last summer she was injured in a bicycle accident and is just getting back to performing. Try her songs "Every Heartbeat", "El Shaddai". "Lucky One", and a cover of "Big Yellow Taxi".
