She wrote “Society’s Child” about an interracial dating relationship which got banned in some states. She was 14 when she wrote it.

Wow. I haven't heard that song in years. I relate to it a lot. I was a fat teenage girl. Shunned, picked on, ignored. It's not easy.

I was 17 when this came out and felt she had stolen these feelings out of my own head. Then one day I was in a car with some very popular girls who also felt the song depicted their lives. That was when I first realized that when we think we know what someone's life is like we actually know nothing. Girls I thought had it all actually hurt and felt "less-then" just like me. We are all more alike than we think, and shouldn't judge until we've walked in their shoes.

This song conveys the all-too-common teenage angst experienced by many teenagers back then-and now.

You absolutely must give a reaction to "Society's Child" by Janis. She wrote this controversial song about interracial dating in 1967 when she was only 14yo. The song was critically acclaimed, but she wound up getting blacklisted, harassed w death threats and radio stations across the US refused to play it. She did manage to give a live performance of the song on the Smothers Brothers variety TV show. Please watch that!

Possibly the greatest female lyricists. Check out "when angels cry" or "Joy"
