Friend of mine from neighbouring country speaks exactly same way in English, specially when lil uncomfortable or uneasy or put on spot. I love this kind, friendly, funny stutter, it's warm and puts you on an instant fun mood. I too have a great accent and find words sometimes hard to come by when our language is so much more descriptive to the point that little stutter is quite natural. Nothing to do with booze 🙄 Ps. It's not American culture and history, it's all the countries that speak English. Just a thought to put out there.... lol

Fun facts: He is from Jyväskylä city. Back in his younger years he was actually studying to beomce a phycisist and while studying he did a gig of stand-up comedy just to see how it would go. Due to his positive experience, he ended up leaving his university studies in the physics deparment over a career life as a stand-up comedian. During my studies at Jyväskylä University I visited his own study grounds several times. A really funny and friendly man if you ever meet him and get the chance to talk with him.

ISMO is great! He is exactly what you hear and see. I saw him like almost 30 years ago in Finland and he has never changed. Except when he moved to the US and started using English. He is a master playing with words their meanings. Like "Ass" , "Sleeping around", "the best thing about sex" ....or the "Funniest man in the World" - competition jokes in Las Vegas 2014, if I remember correctly. Loads of great videos.

I'd describe Ismo's stage persona as an alien who landed into the US (from space). Like a slightly shy modest Spock who's making stage comedy. The funny thing is that he actually studied physics and chemistry before becoming a professional comedian. Here's an interview with him: "KOLR10 & Fox49 Get to know Finnish Comedian Ismo". Here's a sketch about being analytic about things, which probably tells something about where Ismo comes from: "How to open a door - Finnish instructional video from 1979".

The “A-ta-tatata-taaa” expression when poring too much coffee is more or less international, at least among Indo-European speakers. We say it in Swedish. My Spanish speaking cousins say it. Ismo is very witty in those matters. It is difficult to translate Finnish humor into English. He has succeeded in that and there will definitely be more to come. Those pauses or smiles are a big part of Ismo. Maybe then he will be satisfied with what he said.

He’s a very typical Finnish guy. I’m Finnish although 1/4 Hungarian and 1/4 German, but here people are very much awkward with situations in general. His stage persona, with him leaning into his voice and also when he kinda like “stutters” or seems awkward is (IMO) a presentation of typical Finnish people abroad. I lived in Spain for 8 years and it was exactly the same there but with Spanish 😆 His first name is Ismo and last name Leikola. Fun fact, Ismo is the Finnish version of the name Ismael, which means God listens 😂 dunno if thats a good thing pr a bad thing. I’m not religious myself, but still, it’s funny! But I do love his sense of humor, mine is very much like his 😁 Ps. this video inspired me to subscribe to your channel and watch your other videos. Thank you for reacting to him and hope to see you reacting to more of his content 😊 Also you have a very lovely smile ☺️

It’s really entertaining and opening to some quirks of the English language. I encourage you to react to his skits about the word ass and shit too. They are hilarious 😂. The mannerisms are kind of typical Finnish I’d say as is his acccent that he maybe is exaggerating for effect, but I’m not sure.

I can second Ismo on the fact that english is very hard Speaking english, swedish and finnish and I can say that finnish is by far easier than english and swedish(both of them germanic languages), because swedish and english does not really follow any rules, when in spected closely Both english and swedish languages act like there are rules but then all of the rules are broken over and over and every letter can be pronounced in like 10 different ways because there are no rules of pronunciation 😂

Dear Finnish brothers and sisters, please help me out if you can! ISMO pretty much sounds like M.A. Numminen. I've been searching after an old song by M.A. Numminen performed in the Swedish language. It has dark comic lyrics and the song is about a little girl with yellow golden ribbons walked around in the forest when a wolf suddenly showed up and bit one of her arms off making the blood flow. I'm looking for the one with Swedish lyrics performed by Mr. Numminen. So far I've only found a Swedish cover that unfortunately sucks. :/

As an Ismo fan, it sounds like your reaction was quite, daresay, virgin. As opposed to mundane, which Ismo fervently mocks. Come to think, he is probably the best advocate for finnish language. Seriously, he can crack jokes in english, and his comedic style easily crosses barriers. But... he has some points that only work for native Finns.
