FIRST TIME REACTING TO | Morgan James and Haley Reinhart singing The Beatles "Dear Prudence"

I have seen Morgan in concert over 6 times now always getting the VIP meet and greet when it was available. At one of them I asked her about this video and she said it was a spur of the moment thing. They had all gone to a friends loft and realized how great the acoustics were and decided to wing it. So this is her and Hailey along with Morgan's husband Doug on guitar with probably only one run through before they turned on the camera.

My wife and I have seen Morgan twice in concert with the first time in Sacramento, CA where she did the complete Beatles White Album. We bought VIP tickets where we were allowed in an hour early to meet Morgan along with her husband and two dogs. They were super nice sat on the end of the stage and played a few songs and visited with everyone. We have a picture posing with her and her dogs. Small B Street Theater and the VIP tickets were under $100 each. WE also later saw Morgan again and the outdoor Theater in Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe with the Reno Philharmonic doing songs from the "Bond" movies. Great performer and person.

Morgan James studied opera at The Juilliard as a seventh singer, one above the usual six she has appeared in numerous Broadway shows, including Motown: The Musical, Godspell. She and her husband the guitar player are big Beatles fans. Morgan has cover whole albums of only Beatles songs. I been waiting on you to do this song. Not often you get 2 powerhouse singers together like this. Like I said before I use to pick guitar with her father a master guitarist taught me a lot in my career. Not just guitar but the music business. Hailey even when she was young would sing old songs and sing them perfectly so it was no surprise to see her bloom into this amazing songbird ❤

Prudence is Prudence Farrow (sister to Mia) who was on the famous trip the Beatles took to India to meditate in ‘67. John wrote it to prod prudence farrow out of her cabin.

As others have mentioned, the guitarist is Doug Wamble. He is Morgan's now husband. They weren't yet married when this video was made. Doug is a producer and did Morgan's first album. After that they got married. He did subsequent albums and they tour together. During the Covid lockdown, Morgan and Doug did about 100 song covers from their apartment, I think in NYC, and posted them on Morgan's youtube channel because no one was doing performances.

Doug was hired as a Session Guitarist for Morgan's First Album. And while he does production (in addition to co-writeing the majority of Morgan's Original Songs) he is now also an Instructor at The Julliard (Jazz Department)

I'm glad to see you have found Morgan. Morgan, Hailey, Beth Hart(you may not have done anything from her yet, but you will like) are three of the best contemporary singers with a toolbox that seems endless in their ability to emote feelings. Morgan has been in Broadway shows, but likes singing best, graduated from Julliard in NYC. The guitarist is, I believe, Morgan's husband. Yes, you should listen to the Beatles version. Prudence Farrow was spending all her time alone and meditating deeply in a spiritual retreat in India that she and the Beatles were on. The song was to encourage her out of her room. It's lovely. (She is Mia Farrow's sister, by the way). Morgan James seems to be a big fan of the Beatles, considering that she sang THE ENTIRE WHITE ALBUM in a sitting while an artist was illustrating the songs. It's remarkable. Prudence is Prudence Farrow, sister of Hollywood actress, Mia Farrow (famous for the 1969 fright movie, "Rosemary's Baby". In 1968, while the Beatles were meditating In RishiKesh, with the Marahishi Mahesh Yogi, it came out he was having a secret affair with Prudence. When the Beatles got wind of this, particularly, John Lennon, they rightfully turned on his holiness. John's song, "Sexy Sadie" is about the Marahishi.

Prudence is Mia Farrow's sister. They all went on a spiritual retreat to India together in 1968, and Prudence got so deep into her meditation that she wasn't coming out of her room AT ALL. John Lennon wrote this to coax her out. Though John, Paul, George, and Ringo had gone out there to get their heads together and get away from being Beatles it was actually a really artistically productive time for them and they wrote a lot of songs that ended up on The Beatles (generally referred to as "the white album" for its totally unadorned cover). Morgan James has a video of a concert where she covers the entire White Album while a cartoonist draws illustrations based on the lyrics in real time. It's a joy to watch.

I sure hope you keep going down this Morgan James rabbit hole. She is a Julliard trained classical singer that went into Broadway at first, stumbled across PMJ, had the one hit, Call My Name, done a couple of albums with great stuff, but it's these videos like this that are special. You want a real fun one that is off the Morgan James beaten path, try Rather Be. I have this whole story in my head how it happened that I will try to make brief, but probably won't. LOL Morgan was getting ready to work on her album Hunter and needed some back-up singers. In this video there is Jasmine who goes way back with Morgan through PMJ, she is the one sitting between Morgan and her husband playing the guitar. In my mind, Jasmine was bringing the other 2 singer to audition for Morgan and after sitting around the living room they decided to do a song, probably spent the next hour or two working it out and then did one of the most fun videos I know, it never, ever fails to put a smile on my face and heart. Morgan's cover of "Call My Name" was the last cover Prince personally authorized before his passing. If you don't know Prince rarely allowed people to cover his songs. This is the reason Morgan sings this at almost all of her show. She feels Blessed.

To be honest, Haley Reinhart is a level higher than Morgan James. Even if both are two great singers, Haley really sings it in a natural and relaxed way, when Morgan sings it in a more concentrated and scholar way. Many won't notice it at the first look, but when you really pay attention, that's just a fact.

Most of what I wanted to say is already said below so suffice it to say I love Morgan, but for me Haley is the greatest vocalist on the planet or I guess I should say my favorite because I am not fit to judge anyone. While I agree 100% that you need to hear the Beatles doing this, having grown up listening to them let me also recommend a fantastic rendition of this by Gov't Mule featuring Grace Potter at a Lockn festival a few years ago. Grace is also one of my favorite vocalists and imo should already be in the RRHOF for her body of work with her old band the Nocturnals. I've been seeing Haley's performances ever since her American Idol stint, and I enjoyed seeing her in that competition. That being said, I'm afraid I just don't hear the star quality that many other people seem to hear in the songs she's sung since then. I've seen comments saying "Oh, you have to listen to her do (this or that song)", and when I listen to it, it's just another mediocre version of a song that made the charts. In my opinion, this version of a beautiful song by the Beatles did it absolutely no justice. I know she has a lot of fans, so I'll probably get blasted for my opinion, but it's like when I kept hearing how "Tool" sounds like Pink Floyd, but when I tried to listen to a Tool song, I couldn't even make it past 20 seconds of the song before I had to just turn it off. I really, truly, and honestly hope I will someday hear Haley's beautiful voice paired with a beautiful vocal performance
