Pink Floyd are an English band from the 1960's that became one of the most innovative groups to ever grace us with the gift of music. Original, profound, moving, their music has helped millions of us through this wonderful thing called life. Their farewell concert in London in 1994, called "Pulse" is one of the truly great performances of all time. I kid you not.

Pink Foyd were a British progressive rock band formed in the late 1960s and are considered to be one of the greatest rock groups ever. Their albums in the 1970s became theme based and the tracks largely merged into one another forming a whole piece or story. Their 1973 album 'Dark Side of the Moon' spent over 18 years on the IS Billboard Hot 200 chart despite only spending a week at number 1. You most definitely should look into more of their music. The song is basically a kind of reminiscence of the journey of the band. The giant head being carried around is a bust of founder member Syd Barrett who left the band in 1968 with serious mental health problems and became an inspiration for some of their later work. The group further fell apart in the early 1980s when the chief lyricist left with the remaining members continuing for another two albums with this track being the last on the group;s final proper album in 1994. For me it is one of the most poignant, melancholy, uplifting and beautiful pieces of rock music ever. There is a fine live version available of this from their P.U.L.S.E. tour which promoted that last album.

Check out the live version of "High Hopes" at Pink Floyds 1994 Pulse Concert, incredible performance as uaual for Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is a band not a person, they were formed in London in 1964, they are one of the greatest Rock Bands ever, they've sold hundreds of millions of albums worldwide! The members of the band from 1968 to 1985 were, Dave Gilmour, (guitar, lead vocals), Roger Waters, (bass, vocals), Richard Wright, (keyboards, vocals), and Nick Mason, (drums, percussion). In 1985 Roger Water quit the band, the three remaining band members, Gilmour, Wright, and Mason, continued on as Pink Floyd until Rick Wrights death in 2008. Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason technically are still today, Pink Floyd, although they no longer perform.

Whether by accident or recommendation, excellent choice of an intro to the ethereal universe of Pink Floyd! I used this same song to introduce my milleninal and Z'ers friends to the band (which, btw, got them all hooked into the band--for better or worse lol)! The weeping solo slide guitar, the nostalgia-laden vocals, the foreboding haunting bells, the melancholic longing chorus, the subdued but hypnotizing bass, the tempered drumming---i meant everything is done to perfection! And thanks for noticing the surreal beauty that was the accompanying vid too which perfectly vignetted the song. The music vid was so underrated yet soooo magical, mesmerizing, fascinating like a combo of the impressionism of a Monet, the elaborate baroqueness of a Raphael, the surrealism of a Dali, and the colorful expressionism of a Van Gogh! Just simply SUBLIME in all aspects! Recommendation for a noob: try to listen to "On the Turning Away," (preferably the Live version from "the Delicate Sound of Thunder" album, and "Time" from the best LP ever made by man for man "Dark Side of the Moon")! I'm just so thrilled to see ppl (esp young ones) discovering the greatest of 'em all: PINK-fn-FLOYD!

It’s a reminder that as we leave our childhood and grow older, we loose the wonder of our youth. School learning new things that fascinate the young mind, the innocence of friends without condition, the sheer openness of the young kind before it gets conditioned by age and experience. We look back in awe and wonder but know we have lost it for ever. We have burned our bridges and can never go back there no matter how much we wish we could. School days are amongst the very best of a persons lifetime experiences.

@jimangela4589 Жыл бұрын
The video is very symbolic of its nostalgic content. It takes a bit of familiarity with the band to pick up on it. The moon, yes! good catch! This is the last song on the last studio album put out by The Floyd, not counting the release from 2014, The Endless River. That title is from the next to last line of this song. The very last line, "Forever and ever", is from one of The Floyd's earliest songs penned by Syd Barrett, "See Emily Play" He is the enormous bust carried by the group of young people. This album is called The Division Bell, so you get some idea of the significance of the bells. People are burdened by the choices they make, alluding to the parliamentary procedure but pertains to life's choices in general. You will find that The Floyd is very very deep both in their music, their lyrics and their live shows. One leads a diminished life not knowing what The Floyd can deliver. I envy your exploration.

Pink Floyd is a British band, one of the best selling most influential bands in history. What you were looking at here is art... surrealism. Stuff of the imagination. You're not crazy, lol. As others have suggested, check out the live Pulse version of this song from 1994. Then check out the *studio version* of "Comfortably Numb". David Gilmour, the band's lead singer and guitarist, is ranked among the best guitarists of all time. And as you observed, he's got a pretty cool voice as well. Believe it or not, it only gets better from here. Welcome to the Pink Floyd rabbit hole!!
@mikeevans1625 Жыл бұрын
Glad you found Pink Floyd! You got dropped into the deep end of their later catalogue here, but it's still one of Floyd's stellar tracks. Pink Floyd have a long history, but the era that produced their most praised albums of work was when the band consisted of Roger Waters (lyrics, vocals, bass), David Gilmour (vocals, lead guitar), Richard Wright (vocals, keyboard), and Nick Mason (percussion). A lot of their albums are like books, with each song being a chapter. You really only get the full experience by listening from start to finish. That said, there are definitely some standalone tracks that are killer. With Pink Floyd it's always best to start with the album version, then move to the live performances. If you want to start with Dark Side and move forward by album, I'd suggest: TIME, MONEY, US AND THEM; SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND (I-V), WISH YOU WERE HERE; DOGS. After that, The Wall has a bunch of amazing tracks buts it's a much more narrative-driven album so some songs hit different when you don't have the context behind them.

Pink Floyd is named after 2 little known blues men..... Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The original band was started about 1963 by a group of architecture students in London. This band included Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. Syd Barrett joined later but soon became singer , lead guitarist , song writer and soul of the band that had ballooned out to 6 members. By 1965 the band was back to only 4 members and after many name changes, had settled on Tea Set. They were booked to do a gig in late 1965 and discovered another band also named Tea Set were booked for the same gig. They decided to rename themselves after the 2 aforementioned blues men..... The Pink Floyd Sound, later shortened to Pink Floyd. Their video clips are always arty and often obscure, but always in sync with the music. Pink Floyd make legendary records and entertaining video clips, but are usually BETTER live...... except for The Great Gig in The Sky. I consider Time and The Great Gig to be one song in 2 parts, and should always be listened to together. The original recording of The Great Gig is a vocal masterpiece that can not be bettered ...... I recommend you listen to a CD of the original recording from Time to The Great Gig..... the end of side one, Dark Side of The Moon. Or better still, listen to the whole album as one story..... the way it is meant to be enjoyed.

The band began in 1965. By 1968, they’d lost their lead guitarist/singer/songwriter (Syd Barrett) to mental illness. Most likely schizophrenia. They kept going and brought in a replacement singer/guitarist David Gilmour. They began to explore more and more experimental music and they eventually found their sound. However, they never lost the original vision of Syd Barrett. Their popularity grew with each album. Eventually they made a full length movie to go along with their album “The Wall”. You’re not going to hear love songs or bubble gum pop. You’re going to hear songs about loneliness, life, passage of time, childhood, poverty, wealth, relationships and a shit ton more. Virtually every song has deep roots in growing up or growing old.

You mentioned the moon, when the face was about to cross in front of it (the same one at the end of the video): The face was meant to represent Pink Floyd's first lead singer, Syd Barrett, who only recorded one album with the band before he succumbed to LSD addiction. The last two songs on their album The Dark Side of the Moon, "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse," had Syd Barrett strongly in mind, and the part of the video you pointed was an homage to him and that album. As others say below, this is a rabbit hole worth exploring. The Pulse concert version of this song is worth reacting to also!

A band with essentially three incarnations- first from 1960s to the mid 70s, 2nd up to the mid 80s and the last to date. In terms of record sales the middle period was the best with Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were here and the Wall, being money making blockbusters. Whilst I've been lucky enough (and old enough) to have seen them live in the 70s,80's and 90s, I think the Division Bell and Pulse concerts were spellbinding and simply the best music entertainment I've ever seen to date. Pick anything from the Pulse concert, although "sorrow" is my fav. Once you've watched a couple from there you will either be fully sucked into the Floyd world or you can just go down the ACDC rabbit hole, which is VERY different, and not quite so cerebral.

This a great later day Pink Floyd song. Probably their best of their last three studio albums. But still not a song I would have suggested to start with. I hope it piqued your interest enough to dive into their majestic 1970s material. Like you honestly can’t go wrong. There is a lot of symbolism in this video, that you can take however you want, but when you dive into the history of the band, and their original founder Syd, and then all of these songs that made them legends will make even more sense. The symbolism is not random as you will later find out on your Pink Floyd journey. Welcome to the club! And no brother, you are not tripping. Pink Floyd has long been associated with stoners, particularly teenage or college age white stoners. But I’ve always thought that was silly, as you said, their music makes you feel high all on its own. And I hope this doesn’t come off badly, but I don’t think they reached black listeners for whatever reason. Maybe again it was how they were associated with white middle class stoner teenagers or whatever. But I have watched many reactions of Pink Floyd now from people of color and I love it so much. It is life affirming music.

Great reaction, man! You're going to get inundated with comments telling you react to anything from the PULSE live DVD, and while that's true, you should listen to the studio album version of each song first, before listening to a live version. While Pink Floyd live is an audio/visual feast, the production that goes into the studio versions is second to none. All the little nuances are there in both realms, but the albums are something entirely different. Most of their albums are concept albums with a common theme or story running from start to finish. For example, the first half of Dark Side Of the Moon is a life time set to music, while the second half is about the pressures felt within that lifetime... Money, war and poverty, choice and the illusion of choice, and finally madness. The album Wish You Were Here is about the idea of presence vs absence, with two song dealing specifically with their disillusionment with record executives and the industry. That's just to name a few. They're in a class all their own, man. Welcome to the rabbit hole!

Not sure if you'll see this, 4 days on.... but Pink Floyd is important enough to try. I'm going to suggest that you go "backwards in time", and check out their earlier stuff first. The reason for this is that their music has evolved over the decades they were active. "Dark Side of the Moon" is their quintessential album, released in 1973. But even prior to that, they did a "concert" in the amphitheater in Pompeii (yes, the city that was buried for thousands of years under volcanic ash), and their song "Echoes" from that performance is absolutely amazing. It's a 24 minute long masterpiece of music. But the band was already known for playing "long" songs. Dark Side of the Moon is meant to be listened to in it's entirety, from start to finish. As it the follow ups to it, "Wish You Were Here", "Animals", and "The Wall". The later was a multi-media experience, being a double-album, and a movie based on the music (which is heavily featured in the movie). One of the founding members (Roger Waters) left the band soon after, but the remaining 3 members continued on making music. David Gilmore (the guitarist you were enthralled with) doesn't plug his guitar into an amplifier, he plugs it into the soul of the universe. His solos are absolutely legendary. Many others have recommended the "Pulse" concert, which I also recommend... but start with their earlier stuff, and go through it naturally, the way it evolved. I'm new to your channel, but one thing I can tell you, is that music unites people. You've "heard of" AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Metalica, and likely many others. Music from the 1950s until the early 2000s is timeless, so you should definitely look into more. Before "Auto-Tune" and AI writers, musicians required talent and years of practice/experience in order to "make it". Pink Floyd was always ahead of their time. So, if you keep going down this musical rabbit hole, I'll be coming back.

"Pink" Anderson & "Floyd" Council 2 jazz musician from the 50's & "60". song: As a band member left the group Hopes of the future would be better. Floyd actually dislike videos of their music as they want you to LISTEN to words. Band member said MTV ruin music. Use your imagination. P.F. is music you sit and listen to not 4 beat. There's a certain irony that this is your FIRST Pink Floyd song, seeing that it's their last song (in terms of vocals). And if you thought that THIS music video was something different, then you've seen nothing yet! Enjoy your Pink Floyd journey!

Looks like you've got a lot of requests here for Comfortably Numb from Pulse, which is a great suggestion, but I'd like to add to that: *Sorrow* and *One of These Days* both from Pulse. I'm very excited to see your Pink Floyd journey and it's the reason I'm subscribing now. 💗
