Thom Yorke was in love with a girl but could never pluck up the courage to talk to her, he actually once got himself drunk so that he could get the confidence to talk to her, it worked but ended up scaring her off. He also once was told that she went to one of Radiohead's concerts and had a huge panic attack as soon as he found out. It's a song I think I hold pretty close to my heart, when you love someone so much but you feel like they and everyone else just see you as the creepy socially anxious guy underneath everyone else. A very beautiful and powerful song.

Scaring her off is right. Here are the lyrics: But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doin' here? I don't belong here She's running out the door She's running out She's run, run, run, run
@s1d299
@s1d299 4 жыл бұрын
I'd never heard about her going to the concert. I suppose there's a bit of a Romeo/Juliet thing there, isn't there? First he's too shy to talk to her because he doesn't feel like he's special enough, then she's frightened of the fame/spotlight effect when she learns the song is about her, probably feeling like SHE isn't special enough... and the circle is complete. (Scene ends with her running out the door of the concert hall as he sings "running out the door"!) Wow... that's an amazing thought.

This song distills what it's like to feel like an outsider, someone who doesn't fit or feels different from those around him/her. It's much more than just longing for a potential romantic partner to notice them. It's really about the universal feeling of loneliness. "What the hell am I doing here!?"

As others have stated, the band hated this song, it was an early song for them, but for whatever reason the record company latched onto it. During the recording, the guitarist's slamming of that cord was actually meant as a protest, but ironically it helped popularize it and make us take notice of them.

there was a cool unplugged version done by Korn in the late 90's too. its my favorite version. this song gets covered by a lot of bands, and even I learned it. more out of feeling a relateable condition, but i played it and sang it with someone particular in mind. everyone in the house knew immediately who i was singing to, but not her. still, i got a lot of praise and its still one of the most stripped moments of my life. when you sing or express feelings for someone in a packed room, you lose all of the armor you were used to. the smallest pinch hurts deeply

Oh yeah,i started out not liking Radiohead too much. Then this female friend of mine was like "Youre kidding me?!" She told me about theyr song creep,and asked me to pay attention to the lyrics. True story! And after i heard it,they really grew on me. Even till this day,i can find myself in that situation,where you feel like everything is going to *BEEP*,and you start having your inner demons take over your thought process. Im a positive minded guy by nature,so it never lasts. But thats probably the song by them,that most people can relate to. Society can be quite cruel,judge you too harshly without reasons. And you start believing it..... or you keep getting rejected by the ones you get feelings for,and you start looking upon yourself as a "creep,who wished he/she was special". Another wonderful reaction by you 2!😍💞

And I may be wrong but I felt that high solo when he sings “she’s running”, as a scream of distress. It is a sweet yet sad song. Thom’s lyrics and melodies are very deep of you ask me. Have you done Street Spirit? That songs really makes me cry. New subscriber.

This is the song which changed Radiohead's whole direction, on their second album. Before that they'd been pretty much standard indie pop/indie rock, blending into the background of other bands around at the time, but because of the response ot Creep, they went full emo, helping to invent the word, from what I can tell, as well as cranking up the metallic rock guitar sound at the same time, and conquering the world with their next two albums, The Bends and OK Computer, which are just must haves of historical importance, in my opinion. Creep still brings tears to my eyes after all theses years, and it just proves everyone trying to look cool is really just wearing a mask to hide their inner dork and insecure person, except for the Paul brothers, who are just narcissistic sociopaths.

I would suggest using the album versions first as a "reaction" video.. while i understand that for people who grew up with those songs, the live versions can have an added value, i think it's important to not forget that for the first-time-listener (i.e. your daughter) none of your emotions and memories to the song exist.. emotions and memories that were added over years by listening (most likely primarily) to the album version .. ..and it's better to hear some distinct parts, like here the muted guitar "hits" before the chorus sets in.. they just don't come over properly in this live version, which in my opinion still play a crucial role in the mood this song is setting

This song was from the golden era of grunge music and wasn't designed to make u feel happy or sad it was written about his own perspective of how he viewed himself

I'm glad you're making these, I enjoy them, and its cool youre bonding with your kids over this music and sharing that with us. My one request, these videos are called 13 year old react or etc. but then you jump in and do 90% of the talking. :) Im glad youre passionate; as someone who worked with high school kids for ten years, please give them space to process and share their response before sharing yours. We know YOU are passionate, it is very clear. :D Its easy to unintentionally drown out their own processing with our enthusiasm. Thanks.

I remember the first time I heard this. It wasn't long after it's release. I think I was 22. It's a song I've continued to enjoy ever since. I've probably listened to it over a thousand times, and it still doesn't get old. Lots of other RH songs that I live as well; but this one is definitely a stand out.

As said below Thom had a crush on a girl at university but never had the courage to ask her out and ended up kind of stalking her around campus trying to get her to notice him, hence he feels like a creep/weirdo. I also read she was at on of his concerts in the front row dancing to this song never knowing it was about her :)

I think its even sadder than that. I don't think he even approaches the girl, because he wishes he was all those things so he could. I was a little disappointed you picked this version at first. But you were right...he was much more involved with the song and it was really quite moving in a very sad kinda way. Well done bro. Teach the girl.

He was crying during this version. You can see him wipe them away at 5:42. Girls screamed at him after saying “I wish I was special” said YOU ARE! He is an incredible human being and he was being so tough on himself. This was about a girl that he really liked but he never had the guts to introduce himself to her so he would just kind of watch her and sort of follow her around (I’m a creep) He wasn’t stalking her or anything like that. But that was the premise and fun fact was that she actually showed up to one of his concerts and he played this song and he got so embarrassed he didnt want to play it again for years after that. That and he hated the song anyway because people would show up just to hear creep and then leave.

With this song, to me the difference between "You're so very special," and "You're so fucking special" is incredible, changing the whole intensity of it, and adding to the size of the gulf that he sees between who he's singing to and himself.
