I was stationed in Landstuhl Germany at the military hospital and Charlie Daniels was visiting wounded soldiers. I was walking down the hallway and saw him and I wanted to run over and just be a dumb fanboy for a moment but I restrained and just waived. He crossed over to me and shook my hand and told me it was an honor to meet me. I thanked him. I was struck by how humble he was and how he respected me for being a soldier. Though I am no one special, I learned something from him. We are all human and some of us are more famous than others, but we are all one race, the human race.

I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Mr. Daniels when I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay back in '88. He and his band were there for a USO show, and he came out to the fence line where my platoon was on duty for the week. Since we couldn't see the show, he came to us for a meet & greet and tour of the Windward fence line and guard towers. An awesome chance for photos. A very down to earth and patriotic gentleman. One of the highlights of my 6 years in the Marine Corps!

When I was around 20 a friend for his birthday invited us to a Charlie Daniels' concert in Rhode Island to celebrate his birthday( there was at least a dozen of us and we chipped in to buy his ticket, dinner and drinks) Besides him the rest of us were into Disco, Funk, Classic Rock and Blues. It wasn't our first choice to celebrate his Birthday. There were no seats at this concert. Just a stage, security and a big hall. What a great concert !!! It was a lesson in giving different genres of music a chance. If you go back to Georgia Britt, stay away from that Devil, you hear now. ✌️

The sound you heard was him pulling his bow across the fiddle, it was supposed to represent the screech of the devil. Also, in this version, watch when the piano player is shown, he is playing this speed with ONE broken arm, so imagine how much talent he must have. Charlie Daniels is classically trained in the violin and can play almost any instrument.

He was a southern rocker, but got labeled country because he played the fiddle. He was friends with Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and a lot of the old Southern rockers. I saw him in 2002, he blew my mind with his fiddle playing. I started taking Violin lessons after that. The difference between a violin and a fiddle is how fast you play it. A viola has bigger strings, it's basically a bass still violin.
