The great thing about most Aussie music from the 80's is that it is typically "in your face" in its style. Most bands started out as pub bands where they played locally right in front of the patrons, so close and in your face. This closeness these bands had endeared them to the fans and made them feel very approachable and not distant like the mega bands of the day were. Soon as these guys finished a set they would typically walk off stage, through the crowd and up to the bar for a beer.... So many Aussie bands were like this and this is why their music endures so well and gives you the nostalgia that you are talking about. Their music stays in your heart, it lives on and memories are formed of great times, venues, parties, BBQ's and live events etc that are with you for the rest of your life....

Silverchair and the Screaming Jets are from my home town of Newcastle, Australia. A very working class coal-mining town that has been undergoing mass gentrification over the past two decades. The bustling, teaming mass of humanity that was the 'Newie' of the early 90s is almost indistinguishable from the city as it is today.
@stumpypetros2685 Жыл бұрын
Yeah.. NC used to produce Aussies own steel for train Rails etc. Now we ship our own ore out at our own expense for $2 and get 20% quality steel railway track back for $60000 So much being the clever country. We are a count-ry. without the u.

very sad. Port Kembla, Whyalla are the names I've seen stamped on a lot of our rail :( I didn't know about Newcastle until now@@stumpypetros2685

+1 on Shivers. It's a true Aussie Pub Rock Cover classic. But the best versions were the the Nick Cave version and the original Rowland S. Howard Boys Next Door version (which Nick Cave was also a member of). Both are completely different songs based on the two singers delivery.

The Screaming Jets are an Australian hard rock band formed in Newcastle, Australia, in 1989 by frontman Dave Gleeson (vocals), Paul Woseen (bass guitar), Grant Walmsley (guitar), Richard Lara (guitar), and Brad Heaney (drums).[1] The band has three albums that peaked in the top five on the Australian ARIA Charts: All for One (1991), Tear of Thought (1992), The Screaming Jets (1995), and Professional Misconduct (2023). Their 1991 single "Better" reached No. 4 on the related singles chart. Walmsley left in 2007 and formed his own band. In 2013, bassist Paul Woseen released an acoustic solo album, Bombido. RIP - Paul Woseen

Lost count of how many times I've sung this song in covers bands over the years! I've seen the Jets four times in the past. Was even at the Palais Royale in their home town of Newcastle when Australian MTV filmed a gig for a live series. They went crazy! I once met the lead singer Dave Gleeson when he was playing support for Australian Country musician Lee Kernagon. He was playing country & country rock. Smoked some weed with him & the band, (who were also Lee's regular touring band as well). Fun times indeed! Maybe you could react to C'mon, or Needle, from the same album as Better. The album's called All for one. It's awesome!
