For context, the French national anthem is particularly bloody because the lyrics were written by a guy who was a soldier when France declared war on Austria in 1792, and it was meant to be a war chant for the men from the south who were going to Paris to fight. Basically the entirety of European monarchies wanted the newborn french republic destroyed and the king back on the throne, while the country was already undergoing a civil war. It was basically chaos, so even though the lyrics may seem violent and borderline shocking, you've got to keep in mind what the historical context was like.

The Russian National Anthem is actually the Soviet National Anthem but they chnage the lyrics. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia adopted a new national anthem and they changed the anthem into the current Russian National Anthem with the same Soviet Anthem melody but different lyrics.

thank you for what you said/your opinion of our south african one, glad you think so, and that one is my fav (I mean, I'm biased, but still) and australian (even if there's some things to tweak considering the treatment of Aboriginals), and german (old home country), and also italian and israeli (from growing up and stuff), but I also love the russian one and really like the turkey one too, but off the top of my head two that aren't in here are jamaica and japan ones, so beautiful (: I'd say out of these south africa should be 1, israel and russia 2, germany and australia and italy 3 have a good rest of the week

The title of Italian anthem is NOT "Fratelli d'Italia" is "Il Canto degli Italiani" (the Song of Italians). And "where is the victory" should be "where is Victory" - Vittoria was a Roman goddess. Where is Victory? Let her bow down (to have her hair cut like slaves did in Rome), because she's slave of Rome for God will. That means, the ancient Roman enslaved the goddess Victory, God wanted it and now she is ready to get enslaved again by us, Italians.That means, we are ready to win, to unify Italy under one flag etc. Anyway this version is pretty horrible, the repetition of the strophe should be with a "molto concitato" (very excited) tempo, like an excited crowd singing and the "Sì" at the end should be quite shout.
