Interesting to note: Askeladd went from waiting for Artorius as a kid to searching for Artorius as an adult and finally in essence becoming Artorius by sacrificing himself to save Wales

Lucious Artorius Castus; the one covered in Ash Askeladd; the king maker; the daddy slayer, raiser of orphans; the legitimate king of Britannia; the G.O.A.T RIP..... Definitely one of my favourite anime characters (maybe the most) of all the times!

Askeladd really believed in Canutte... His original plan was to Kill Sweyn in a safer way then make Canutte King and in the end secure&protect Wales. All the actions he took until the very end (from beginning of the series) was all for Wales' safety. His only miscalculation was that Sweyn's possible action on Wales which made Askeladd to sacrifice himself. When he said Canutte is better choice than him, Askeladd really meant that... In case you didn't notice after Canutte's transformation he got the same look in his eyes with Thors - That's why Thorkell told Canutte - He has seen these eyes before and he did regret to not follow that person (Thors)'' - That's why also Askeladd trusted Canutte.... The Priest's philosophy parallels with Thors' A true warrior doesn't need sword'' And Askeladd was the first person who understood Thors... he always regretted killing him... (Yes go and watch their fight again, he really meant when he asked Thors to be their leader... but he knew that wasn't the possibility at the same time). These things aren't easy to catch at the first time that's why this masterpiece deserves second time watching - one another little interesting thing about Askeladd is... when he gives promise/swears in the name of his Father&Odin that means he doesn't care about it... if he does that in the name of Artorius then that means he is going to keep his words (last words to Thors for example).

I call Askeladd character the perfect general type. There’s lots of fictional and real life figures in history are like this. They spent their life finding a great leader deserved their loyalty and once they found one, they’d do everything even taking their own life for their king’s good.

Askeladd had always hated danes, but he was a half-blood himself, so he did not believe he had a right to change the world to the better due to his wicked nature. Thus he had chosen Canute to do it instead of him for his motherland. These were two things he really cared for. Thank you for you videos. It was a great pleasure to rewatch it with you

it wasnt askkelads plan to make cuanute kill him but king swyan caught his plan straight thru middle hence he had toh do what he did in order to keep both wales(he beacme his mother's envisioned hero lucious Artorious by safe wales and its people frm its end) and caunute safe (as he promised ragnar)............also he gave thorfinn his life long lesson to move ahead in his life

So askeladde finds a king or leader to serve so there will be like vinland in Britain When he meets thors he asked literally will be my leader and says it as joke And his friend Bjorn why are u want to save canute. He asks bjorn why want to serve me, bjorn says I choose to and askeladde says I choose my own leader

The title is perfect- the whole first season is in fact the prologue to the real story^^ Thorfinn lost it after Askeladd died because he wasn't the one killing him in an honorful duel. Askeladd even offered him to stab him in order to get his revenge (in order for Thorfinn to finally let go of this ridiculous idea and be free again - yes, Askelad wanted Thorfinn to be finally free! He always mocked him for wanting to duel him for that reason!) - his sole reason for living but he refused since this is not how Thorfinn wanted it. After being robbed of his revenge (Canute even apologized for that to Thorfinn), he is completely lost - he lost his reason to live and I love that Askeladd's last words to him were indirect encouragement in form of a question to THorfinn: to let go of that hate and revenge and finally really beginn to live his life (all this time he was a slave to his own rage and hate against Askeladd - preventing him from enjoying life). He gave him the "mission" to become a true warrior - like Thors without(!) a sword (and not the warrior he tried to be all this time like Thorkell). If you think back, there was an episode where a slave woman was asking Thorfin if he is a slave , too (because he was eating and sitting alone outside in the boat instead of eating with the others inside). This and several conversations of Askeladd with others throughout the season always hinted at the fact that Thorfinn is caged - a slave to his thought of revenge - and that this prevents him from moving on and actually build something in life. Now his goal of revenge is gone - he never even got his revenge and he is now faced with nothingness. Now he needs to think how he wants to move on in life - go on in violence like the fellow warriors and the only thing he learned in recent years or finally break the cycle of violence like Thors tried to do. Can't wait for Season 2!

Askeladd's plan was complex. As he said in Episode 10, he feared the Age of Twilight, a moment in which all people would become like his father or half-brothers, full of greed and thirsty for power and pleasure, giving no value to life, beauty, and peace. His mother said him that Artorius would come back from Avalon to bring a new era and stop the advent of the Age of Twilight, but, as revealed in episode 22, when his father tried to kill his mother, Askeladd realized that Artorius would never come to help. He realized that a man, not an hero, or a god, must take the burden to make that job done. Growing up, he realized that he could not be that man, because he was just another Viking, like the Danes. So, he sought to find someone worth the role of the savior of the world. We do not know how many people he scrutinized for that role, but for a moment he thought Thors might be the right one, and he asked him to become the leader of him and his men. But Thors did not want to lead anyone, and thus Askeladd decided to go on searching for someone else. After a while, finding no possible candidate, he started to think he had to raise someone to take that role. He made the gable to believe that Canute could be the right one. A very risky gamble. But, at the end, the boy demonstrated to be the best candidate to realize the Kingdom of Heaven on the Earth. At that point, Askeladd had to make anything possible to allow Canute taking power. Askeladd would have preferred otherwise, but the king's move forced him to sacrifice his own life to make Canute king of England.

Askeladd mentioned it many times that he can judge ppl by looking at their faces and that's why he wanted canute to be the king and not himself as he thinks canute is more suited for it, but in the final situation he had no choice but to sacrifice himself to save his homeland and which also confirms canute becomes the next king since he was the one to kill his father's murderer

Man I had forgotten about Made in Abyss ! Its a great anime and has a lot of mysteries and really resembles an RPG story. I absolutely loved the first season of Tokio Ghoul but idk if the following seasons are worth enough to invest yourself in that anime.

I enjoyed this first season so much and this episode was great. I love the arc of Askeladd, but just because he's my favourite I was sad to see him go. I also felt like that Thorfinn just lost his second Dad even tho he wanted to kill him, Askeladd was a big part of his life for the past couple of years. I'm excited to see what these new characters we saw at the end are about and what Thorfinn is going to do next. Is he going home, is he looking for Vinland, or is he staying with Canute? Can't wait to see more about Canute as well, after Askeladd he became my second favourite Character. MVP: Askeladd and favourite moment: when Thorfinn was holding on to Askeladd in his final moments.

God I cant wait for season 2.. a lot more characters are going to be in s2, in the end scene you can see some of them (the 2 climbing mountain, one on the beach and one on the boat). My fav characters from this season is 1. Askeladd 2. Thorfinn 3. Thorkell. btw. cant wait for death note I didnt watched the anime but couple days ago I finished reading manga (the only thing different in anime is ending, but its pretty similiar) and I can say IT IS MASTERPIECE. I just realized that you watched animes with one of the best main characters in all of animes: Eren, Thorfinn (s2 gonna be crazy) and mc of Death Note ofc not spoiling ;)

I myself don’t fully know why Askeladd did all that to save Canute (we know he wanted to save wales bc of his connection to it but not why he wanted to save Canute). My personal opinion is that either it was because he knew Canute was the better king so he did everything he could to make that happen. Otherwise it’s definitely odd.

Askeladd wanted Canute to become king because he was different than those warriors who just wanted to fight. King backed him into a corner so he had to choose between Wales and Canute. He didnt want to choose so he killed King and went "mad" even tho it was an act so people see him as a beast and so that Canute kills him, becomes the king and doesnt attack Wales. Askeladd had it all planed out but for the plan to work he had to sacrifice himself

Well that's the end for this season it was so great to see you react to it ! I love how this season ends, it almost looks like the manga could end like this, with askeladd dying ! Like, im sure that right now, you don't have any clue of where this anime is gonna go and that's what i love with this show. Knowing you, im sure you'll love next arcs of Vinland Saga because you know how to understand and see how great is a story even if it looks completely different that what you've known. Beware, the author of Made In Abyss is a lolicon (Lolita Complex). There are many hints of pedophilia in the story. They watered it down in the anime but it's still there (You'll think of me when you hear about "Papa Pole"). I personally appreciate MiA for its Lovecraftian horror/beauty, but these kinds of things can put you off.

Yeah, what a journey. Favourite episode: tough question. maybe this or 22. The crown was a great one too. The Anne episode was good. Episode 6 was great.
