The way I explain my stance is easy. There are a pair of men who are infamous in the body modification community. Cat man and Lizard man. Each have had surgeries, piercings, and even full body tattoos to make them look like the animals of their choice. Now, I may think they’re a bit weird, but if they’re happy and made this decision as informed adults, what do I care? However, if they start going to schools and asking kids “Maybe you’re a dog?” Well, I’d have a problem with that. And I find most parents agree.

Love your commitment to posting authentic reactions! I think that a lot of people who view Ben Shapiro as harsh, cold, and extreme have only seen his short, viral clips in very tense settings. I would love to see you react to some of his content in context, and in more relaxed settings, if you are interested. Ben’s debate at Oxford about the Israel-Hamas war was excellent, as are his long-form conversations with people like Gina Carano and Russell Brand.

Just to play devil's advocate here. Something to consider. While your stance of going with the flow as long as it doesnt cause you harm is very respectful and passive. You might be doing the other person a disservice. Very rarely is it considered to be a good thing to play into someone else's delusions. The way I handle this topic is that I will NOT use a biologically incorrect pronoun with someone, however instead I will just always refer to that individual by their chosen name instead out of respect for that individual. So if someone were to ask me where an individual went instead of saying he or she I will just say "so-and-so when over there".

We all have the right to self identify. Science, Society, reality, and oppositional forces will always present major obstacles to your unique perspectives never mind your "self identity". To demand everyone defy, deny, and otherwise be conformed to individual preferences publicly is to demand society and culture at large to be reduced to millions of shards of individualism instead of a cohesive whole. How can society function amidst the dysfunction of mass individualism? We have functional "norms" to bring order to job standards, otherwise imagine having a plumber who identifies as Picasso and creates a unique masterpiece of metal/plastic/and wood assembly that may or may not function as you want, but then charges you a hundred thousand dollars or more because they "self value" their own work at such prices. We have societal norms based on majority agreement for a reason. It functions and works much much much better than chaos reimagined.

12:18 - correct - Ben has been consistent in stating that ADULTS have the right to identify as whatever they want to identify as and live how they want to live, so long as those choices are not hurting anyone else or infringing on anyone else individual rights. He has also been consistent in stating that just because "joe" suddenly decides he's "jane" that does not mean joe has the right to expect or force society into using female pronouns for joe as 1/ that is compelled speech and infringes on the individuals right to free speech and 2/ using female pronouns for a biological male goes against proven science and biology. If you go back to his YT page and view his debates on this subject he is consistent in his beliefs in every single one of them.

16:02 - I get what you're saying, but to me, using third-party pronouns ("they", "them", "he", "him", "she", "her"...) to refer to someone who is not only in the room, and within earshot, but also one of the people who are involved, directly, in the conversation, in ANY other context is something that anyone else would consider to be extremely rude... it's seen as a passive aggressive effort to talk about someone as though they're not a part of the conversation, although they clearly are.

Why couldn't "they" have come up with a better word than "they"? Using a plural to indicate a single person, while still retaining the established use as plural is just poor language management. I would be far more inclined to use a new pronoun instead of muddying the waters. Let me remind us this a tiny percentage of the population that expects a vast majority to change their ways. Why are "they" taking the hard road? There would probably be a lot more compliance if there was a better word. Now that I think about it, I feel like this was done in part to create conflict: force people to use an illogical term, then blame them for not wanting to use it. Then you can accuse them of being a hate Here's an idea: henceforth, any dog that has been neutered has to be referred to as a "cat," Yes, all cats are still to be called "cat." Good job calling out the Reaction Nazis. You are correct. If you've heard the, "facts don't care about your feelings," phrase before, it's because of Ben Shapiro. Yes, you are understanding the pronoun fight correctly. Jordan Peterson put it very succinctly as no one has the right to compel speech. And Canada, Peterson is Canadian, did try to do just that by passing a law. However, NY passed a pronoun law where it recognized some 60+ pronouns. That's excessive. No one should be required to remember which pronoun goes to which person. As for me, I'm sticking to 3 pronouns; he, she and it.
