A couple of momths ago Al suffered a heart attack while omstage in Budapest Hungary. He has recovered and is back on the road touring. One of the fastest guitar players ever. I started playing guitar because of him & Pat Metheny.

Sempre me emociono com essa banda e com a violência das escalas do Di Meola. É como uma montanha russa, não me canso de me aventurar e me emocionar.

Al DiMeola is a Legend. He still tours, catch him if you can. He will blow your mind. Many folks learned of his name Via Return to Forever. A great band of SUPER Musicians from the 1970's. They were at a level above everyone else. Mr Grace, of the Trio: Passion, Grace, + Fire. Paco, Al, and John Mc.

Al first learned to play percussion as a kid, then learned to play guitar later. He has been/is one of the top jazz/rock guitar players since the mid 1970’s. I saw him in concert for the first time on June 4, 1978. It was an absolutely incredible concert!

Thanks to Robert for suggesting this magical gem. I bought this new as a teen. It was way outside of what I had been listening to, but there was some interesting overlap in the 70s among jazz/rock fusion and progressive artists. It definitely expanded my world.

did you get it from Columbia Records?
@writebrain-zn2um8 ай бұрын
@@thorzzz1z 😆 Not that one, but I did find a lot of great artists (and a few snoozers) by buying something just based on the cover art (Tom Waits, Alice Cooper, Yes, Bowie, etc.). I do miss $3.99 vinyl, though!

At your time out, it's no wonder you confused, that transition from the lead guitar over to the lead keyboard was just so seamless and then suddenly he's playing drums. I'm not sure I've been able to determine that whether that's Chick Corea on the keys but either way, he always had the best that wanted to jam with him. Just phenomenal

I first heard this very tune while is a pub in Germany in 1978. I've been a fan ever since. The entire album that this track is from is great

No he was a band leader for so long. He was a phenomenon.

Suite Golden Dawn From The Midnight Sun album is by far my absolute favorite of his and he's featuring some of the hottest players around at the time. But I sure have always loved this one and I do love this album too, I think it may be came out back-to-back with Midnight Sun, or close to it at least.

"Three Guitars": Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, and John McLaughlin. But first.... watch Paco de Lucia play "Tico Tico". Your jaw hits the floor, and then you realize he was just warming up.

Italian yes. He is good. He joined Chick Correa's Return Forever, a jazz fusion band. I think he was 18.

saw him in 2011, my seat was in the middle of the pit and surrounded by hot girls, a guy came and asked me to swap places, he was in the front row, middle of stage, i accepted, the live started and it was incredible Al was so near that I could hear the sound coming from his acoustic guitar, at a moment I had to close my eyes so I could understand what was happening , I was hearing a synthesizer and there was no keyboard on stage turns out it was the rhythm played by his thumb captured by an isolated mic while the other fingers played the melody and sounded like a guitar, when I opened my eyes Al was pointing me to the other musicians and he smiled to me like saying "you got it??". that evening he played some covers of an other guitar god PACO DE LUCIA you should really get an eye on his work his finger style is jaw dropping. at the and of the show Al played his classic "Mediterranean Sundance" and it was fire!! at the end I assisted to the most furious standing ovation the theater almost collapsed, here Al approaches me, gives me a handshake and passes me his guitar pick. best experience ever

It's so fun that you reacted to this. You are really branching out. But damn, please please please please please listen to Suit Golden Dawn from the Land of the Midnight Sun album, it has some similar jazz fusion rock stuff going in, but when it hits the main groove, it is the funkiest but yet still complicated thing, and I think it's Jaco Pastorius on bass, #RIP, But either way, it's just mind-blowing and it has a similar kind of battle at some point between Al Di Meola on the guitar and whoever is playing keyboard, which I think Chick Corea plays a lot of keys on that album but I think it's another guy for that one. Stanley Clarke and others are involved, it's just stellar musicianship, aut it's such a great composition. It's a really fun journey and to me it's one of his best ever. Definitely check out the studio cut: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/joenh2OXjtSpldk&pp=ygUeYWwgZGkgbWVvbGEgZ29sZGVuIGRhd24gc3VpdGUg
