I thoroughly enjoyed your comments on this video. Not all waves of humanity have such a one as Dimash to experience personally within the same time frame here on earth. He inspires personal reconnection with a greater depth our own Souls. He has healing frequencies in his voice. A woman who does Sound Therapy stated that recently a woman hearing Dimash's voice experienced a complete healing of her Cancer. I myself do not doubt this. I have heard of these things before. I know how sound effects our energy fields and why it can move human beings so powerfully as music. Have a wonderful day! 🌞 🎶 🕊❤️🕊 🎶🌞 ✌️🙏✌️

[English translation] Samal Tau (Wind Mountains) Samal tau, my native land, the immense sea What days await me in soldiers Remember again and again Native land where I was born and raised I'm not riding, I walk Even slower than walking For fifteen days of trekking Approaching towards Omsk I am at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow By the will of fate went to a distant land Samal tau, native lands left behind We are like a herd of horses, torn from our native lands My mother and father They are old men of advanced years ... This song came from misfortunes of sixteenth years Samal tau, my native land, the immense sea What days await me in soldiers... In 1916, the song "Samal Tau" was born. Like the song “Elim-ay”, which the Kazakh people composed during the years of the great disaster “Ataban shybyryndy”, the song “Samal tau” expressed the aspirations and difficult situation of the Kazakhs in the last years of the Russian Empire. In the center of the work is the tragedy of an individual against the backdrop of a general national disaster. The mournful bitter song of the Kazakh soldier, who does not understand why he leaves his native lands, he tells the story of it.

It is a traditional Kazakh song, written over a hundred years ago, from the perspective of a young Kazakh man who has been called to war by Russia, and the instruments are supposed to reflect the sounds of nature as he marches away from his home, devastated that he has to leave his elderly parents :(

I believe he's singing in Kazakh, the Turkish-based native language of Kazakhstan. (My wife is Kazakh, and I lived there 9 years.) I love this song. It is an experience as much as music. The back story, however, is important in interpreting that experience. This song is based on the writings of a young Kazakh who lived with his parents and family in the mountainous area of Kazakhstan when he was forced into the Tsar's army to fight in WWI. He had never been out of his own little part of Kazakhstan. The sounds of those ancient instruments represented the sounds of nature that he loved so much -- the wind, the howling wolves, etc. He's being forced to go fight in a war he does not understand for a Tsar to which he feels no allegiance. He misses his homeland and family as he marches to war, and he's wondering if he will survive the battles and be able to return to the homeland he loves so much. With that understanding, the song is much more meaningful and experiential for Dimash, as well as his fans. If it were in English, it might make the Top 10. You hear the mountain sounds and the cadence of marching, and you hear the mourning cry of a soldier who just wants to go home.

I don't remember all of the music that you have reacted to, but listening to two of his songs in Chinese might be interesting. You should watch the 3-4 minute backstory to the Gloria Wu version of the songs, which include English subtitles. Very moving pieces. Daybreak (kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4mqd2qsnKqMgc0) about an orphan whose parents pushed him to safety before dying in a cable car accident, and Autumn Strong (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIm0ZmuLYqqXmsk) about a China-born Japanese actress who was beloved by the people as she kept her ethnicity secret but was then deported when it was discovered after WWII. The lyrics are like they refer to lost love, but it refers to her love for the land, the culture and the people of China.

Dimash is singing in his mother tongue, Kazakh - and the traditional instruments are a kobyz (like a small cello), a sybyzgy (sideblown flute) and a rainstick. The mandolin/lute-type instrument on the wall is a dombra which Dimash plays beautifully.

Samaltau is a masterpiece ✨❤️✨Thank you for doing this song. The two string instrument is a kobyz ☺️. He is singing in kasakh. These are the lyrics: Mountain breeze Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake, What days await me as a soldier, You keep coming into my mind from time to time, My amazing homeland, where I was born and raised I wasn't riding, I was walking, Even slower than walking, Been strolling for 15 days In the direction of Omsk I'm at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow By the will of Fate, I went farther away Mountain breeze, my amazing country, you're left behind From the hollow field, we are the only ones I had parents, Of progressed age, Since this song was written, It's been 16 years. Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake, What days await me as a soldier

FYI. The lyric "I'm at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow." sets the time setting of the song and that of the young man who is singing. It would make him about 28 years old (a little over 2 mushels = 2 dozens born in the year of the cow = 1889). dimash.fandom.com/wiki/Samaltau_(%D0%A1%D0%B0%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%82%D0%B0%D1%83)

@@leannsmarie Oh, leannsmarie, This is so nice, such a gift for all of us, Dears, to open and enjoy the entire context of that magnificent song. I listened to it for the first time 5 hours ago and I am still under it spell. It haunts my spirit heaviliy like if the young soldier were my young brother leaving us, forever maybe. It is so real for me, as if it was a nightmare in which I cannot escape. Music is the best therapy there is for psychosomatic disorders, but, it could be a knife with a double edge. If the sound vibrational frequency is the exact opposite of our own frequency, could it be harmful? I know that I cannot sleep listening to a certain piece of music or it can make me nervous or anxious. With others, I sleep like a baby or I spend my day feeling happy, healthy, strong, in a meditate state of mind. It is all a question of corresponding sound vibrational frequency, as shown by the extraoprdinary beautiful mind of Nikola Tesla.

Hello. From Brazil. In my opinion, this video has the best presentation of this song. He's singing in the Kazakh language. It happened at the live of the Tokyo Jazz Festival, an annual global event that takes place in Japan, and this year because of the pandemic it was done only through the internet. It was attended by musicians from several countries and for a happy coinscidence it was just on the day of Dimash's birthday. May 24 when he turned 26. Dimash with a powerful and emotional interpretation, sitting in a Yoga position, combined with the sound of the instruments, a spectacular presentation Samaltau is a traditional song that talks about the First World War in 1916 when a decree from the Russian Empire was issued on the mobilization of the army for rear operations. There was a lot of suffering and pain. So the beginning has the sounds of the instruments simulating the sounds of war. The song is about a kazakh son who mourns to leave his old parents alone, because he is forced to join the russian army for war. Samaltau is the name of the place the man is. Thanks for your reaction

Just imagine snow-capped mountains peaks, beautiful blue lakes, the cry of the red deer, the distant howls of the gray wolf and the gazelle bounding away from the brown bear. The dombra is the most popular and the oldest Kazakh musical instrument. It sets the tone for where-ever the song takes place; as on the seashore, the desert plains or in the forest. It sounds hauntingly beautiful in this intimate setting, as DIMASH meditates before he sings. 💫❤💫

At the beginning of the song, the sounds of the Great Steppe of Kazakhstan at night were masterfully imitated on the Kazakh ancient folk instrument KOBYZ. We hear howl wolves, barking dogs, the cries of cranes, the noise of water in the river... /// The song "Samal Tau" is considered folk. Its plot is connected with the events of 1916. That year, many men were mobilized for World War I, which was in Europe. /// The guy walks along the steppe road at night and sings a song about having left his native home and old parents, native mountains "Samal Tau". The guy doesn't know what lies ahead in the war. He doesn't know if he'll return from the war to his home. /// Dimash sings this song in Kazakh. Believe me or not, but, having in view the whole amazing repertoire of Dimash, that is, in my opinion, the most poignant piece of musical vocal art that I have ever heard from him, including Daybreak (which is difficult to surpass in dark emotion) and Autumn Strong. it is almost unbearable, with the living natural and animal sounds in the intro and the desperate crushing feeelings of the young soldier called to arms leaving his country for the inevitable killings of unknown fellow human beings. That Dimash's low sound soulful vibrational frequency will haunt my spirit for how long, Lord, for how long, my Lord?

Although his vocal range is amazing, he is clearly very gifted, and he must have put a tremendous amount of time and work into mastering the control of that voice. For me it is his ability to communicate the emotion and feeling of the piece he is performing. He is usually not singing in a language I understand, and yet he communicates the feelings and emotions of the song perfectly. Every song he performs takes the listener on a journey almost like into other worldly dimensions of sound and feeling. A remarkable artist.

"Samal" - cool mountain breeze. "Tau" - mountain. The story was about a young soldier being drafted by the Russian army to fight a war in 1916 (World War I). He had to walk 15 days from his "Samal" village to another town in Omsk to register himself. The initial instrumentation was to paint a picture of the environment in your mind = the breeze/wind blowing, sounds of wolf howling and barking, sounds of leaves or water running. From his singing, you can feel the "longing" of home and feeling of "dread" on his way to register for war.

He sings in KAZAKH! On wall: Not mandolines, but the National Kazakh instrument: the DOMBRA! To me, this is a highly POLITICAL song ( rather than spiritual, as stated by others). It's the heart-breaking STORY of this young Kazakh man who says he was forcefully enlisted by another country (Russia) to join an army and go fight a War that had nothing to do with his Homeland. He complains of the extreme hardships he and the Kazakhs suffered, having been prohibited from riding their horses (Kazakhs lived on horseback, so it was a humiliation to be deprived of their horses!!) And were forced to WALK for weeks on end to the battlefield in the snow, cold and hungry and miserable. So the young man questions the senselessness of WARS, and cries in despair at being forced to abandon his parents and their fields. He wonders how his elderly parents could cope without his help. It's a very sad song , yet so real! Close to Dimash's heart in many issues: 1) the clear ANTI-WAR stance of Dimash; 2) his strong belief of the need to care for the elderly. At the begining the string instrument (Kazakh) makes the sounds of crying wolves. In Dimash's KZbin Channel is the performance of this song with SUBTITLES - at the One Belt, One Road celebration . ( I detest this project, which has caused massive social and environmental devastation in SE Asia. Dimash was USED by Xi Jinping who named him "Cultural Ambassador " for this disgusting project. I advised him of the awful consequences, sent him info, and asked him to distance himself from this project, and the Human Rights abuses it also entails. Tricky as it was a Kazakh-China deal too. He finally was able to do so.)

Hey Lukas, I always enjoy your reactions. Let me tell you about song/music The Intro is made to put you (audience) into the scene. The song is about a Kazak soldier who where called by the Russian Millitary to join the army. It‘s during WWI. He has a 15 day trip to his destiny. And while walking he sings this song. The instruments imitates the scenery/nature/animals. The 2-String instrument is called Qobyz. This eg Imitates a Wolf at the beginning. The flute an eagle. And then there is Wind, water etc. at the end of his Melisme, his last note has a delay. That symbolizes the echo in The Valley he is walking through. Sorry for my bad English. I tried my best. 😂

*The story behind the song It was 1916, the second year of the Great War. The Russian Empire carried huge human and property losses. The burden of restocking was laid on subject nations. About 49 million hectares of fertile land were forcibly taken away during the war years in Kazakhstan. The owners of this land, Kazakhs, were driven out into the barren wastes. Taxes increased from 3 to 15 times. For the needs of war livestock and property were mass requisitioned. And finally it came to the "requisition" of people. June 24, 1916 the russian Tzar issued a decree "On requisition on the rear work of a foreign male population. The song "Samaltau" tells about these sad events for the Kazakhs. Samal - a gentle breeze, a mountain breeze, bearing the evening or morning cool. The word "samal" itself is associated with something pleasant, bearing enjoyment. Therefore, Kazakhs can often find a female name Samal. Tau - a mountain, mountains, a hill. Driven to despair, the Kazakhs and Kyrgyz revolted. By the autumn of 1916, it covered the vast territory of Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Troops were thrown to suppress the uprising. In Semirechye, Turkestan and western Kazakhstan, the uprising was cruel crushed: thousands of people died, hundreds were executed, hundreds of thousands people were deported, and more than 260 thousand fled from their native places abroad. In Turgay, in the north of Kazakhstan, the uprising continued until The February Revolution in Russia and merged with it.

Lukas, it absolutely made my day to see you back with another Dimash reaction. It's so much pleasure watching you watching Dimash. Others will tell you all about the song and the kobyz, so I won't duplicate those comments. In case no one else has commented: this livestream is from Dimash's own studio in his communal home (multi-generational family members all live together) in Kazakhstan. I enjoy imagining what it must be like to live in that home and hear these magical, mystical sounds coming from Dimash's studio at all hours of the day and night. If I were one of the family members, it would be tempting to tell Dimash that he needs to practice the song more...just so I could hear it again and again. This song is a sacred journey.

@@shirleymelvin9282 Hi again! I’ve been following Dimash for almost 4 years since he appeared on Singer 2017. I tried the fan forums for a while, but it’s really not my thing. Though I’ve been immersed in all things Dimash for so long, I still don’t call myself a Dear. I just call myself a huge fan, even though I probably qualify for being called a Dear 😎. I can’t imagine going a day without listening to Dimash sing and watching reaction videos. About MTV, I’m cautiously optimistic. He wants to be known in the West, and I support anything that might be a stepping stone to make that possible. If everything continues well, maybe he could end up singing “Love is Not Over Yet” on MTV, the cable TV show, not just the youtube livestream. It’s nice to think it could be possible, and Dimash certainly has a history of making his dreams come true. If he becomes known well enough, maybe someday even gets his dreamed-of Grammy, he could do a large-scale North American tour...even show up in Texas 🤯. Take good care, and I’ll watch for you around youtube.

Samaltau was Dimash's entry to the Tokyo Jazz Festival. This is the video he sent when asked to participate virtually. This song has special meaning to the Kazakh people. Samal tau means beautiful mountain of breezes. Many Kazakh women are named Samal because of the history of this music. You have probably heard that Dimash had two songs on American MTV that were requested so often they moved to no. 4 on the MTV chart. The kobyz is an ancient instrument carved from one piece of wood, with 2 strings made from horsehair. It's played by many Central Asian countries and is considered by Kazakhstan a sacred instrument. Thank you for reacting to this. Your reactions are always heartfelt. (Patricia, Jerry's wife)

Thank you for a most authentic reaction... "Samaltau" is a favorite of mine... There is this evocative, simply mesmerizing feel of longing that the performance creates.... A truly palpable reality, that materialize one's vulnerability and sadness.... A soulful tale about home, homeland and the tragically inevitable life abroad in time of war.... ☮️ PS:Btw: One of the most treasured aspect for me is the introspective reaction that the performance induces : remembering one's own roots... Specifically for me, that one Valia Balkanska song that went on the, VOYAGER golden record (a Bulgarian folk..) This one (Samaltau) should be traveling to the stars too.... 💜

English translation (rough) My dearest motherland with its immense lake Shalkar. I wonder what my days will be like when I become a soldier Thoughts of you arise over and over in my mind My precious land where I was born and came of age I’m not riding, but walking slowly Not even walking, but dragging myself I have been struggling for 15 days I am approaching Omsk I’m twice a dozen years old And was born in the Year of the Ox / Cow (**1889) Forced by the will of fate to travel to distant land Samal mountain, my precious motherland I have left you behind We are like a lost herd of horses gone astray I have both my father and my mother They are of advanced age What drove me to sing this is, The mourning and heartache of the year 1916… Samal mountain, my dearest motherland With its immense lake Shalkar, I wonder what my days will be like when I become a soldier

The string instrument played with a bow is kobyz, the one hanging on the wall is dombra. The text of the song is very sad, tells about old tragedies of the Kazakhs during historically desperate times and I cannot help but to think of how they echo into the present... I apologize, but your translation is inaccurate as to the fact that the song was written 16 years after these events. More precisely, in relation to the original will be: This song is composed of misfortune (catastrophe) on the sixteenth (meaning the year). Note: in 1916, the government of the Russian Tsar (Emperor) drove young Kazakhs to slave labor. At the same time, not for battles, since they were not given weapons. As a consequence, there was a large uprising of the Kazakhs, brutally suppressed by the Russians with the help of weapons
