He stares into my soul, puts his hands on the sides of my head and sings right into my face. I'm mesmerized and a little afraid to move. And when it's over, I realize I'm crying and forgot to breathe. Powerful and intense. Epic!

After listening to David’s version, I can only listen to his. I still get goosebumps every time I listen to it. His voice is amazing, you can feel his anger and frustration that society ignores the warnings.

I’ve seen posts that say, it’s not a song anymore, it’s an experience. So I guess the question must be posed…with almost a BILLION views, is THIS the greatest music video of all time? The reaction is so visceral, gut wrenching, ripping your soul out…to top this, you’d have to die if anything was better.

Agree 100%... David Draiman has the best voice I've ever heard imho. He's got it all... absolutely beautiful voice and unbelievable range, distortion (vocal fry), control, emotion, vibrato ... can even put vibrato on the distortion which is incredibly difficult to do! He is just amazing! Loved your reaction.

I've heard this over a thousand times because it's just so damned beautiful. Tugs at the emotions every time. It almost like a battle cry for those of us who want the world to pull their heads out of their behinds and actually talk and listen like we used to do before technology turned most of us in to mindless automatons.

I grew with S and G liked them and this song. I have to admit I didn't realize it had such a powerful message. Never heard of Disturbed. This rendition definitely shares everything needed to understand the original. Beautiful song and amazing cover. And definitely a message that clearly confirms the original. Wake up, everyone, pay attention and stop us from canceling the warning. The message is very real and clear. Help stop the fateful truth. Best song ever.

One of my very favorite videos! Always loved the original S&G, but this is the best version I've heard. Pentatonix was good, but listened to this one first. Disturbed performed this Live on Conan, which is worth a watch too.

Simon and Garfunkel were among my favorites growing up in the 1960's and 70's, and my background has mostly been in Renaissance and folk music. I've never listened to rock much and certainly not metal until recently, but I checked this out after comments in Pentatonix reactions and it's amazing. He seems to really be channeling something. The consensus among Pentatonix fans seems to be that each version has it's own good qualities, and the lyrics are ambiguous enough that each version can convey a slightly different feeling -- warning, anger, hopefulness, resolve, despair. So you can take the message you need.

5:30 "Wow" indeed. Quite. As so many others have said, if the original Simon & Garfunkel version was a gentle warning about the direction of an increasingly shallow, ignorant society - then David's version is a tragic, bitter lament for it, with only the faintest glimmer of hope.

The Pentatonic's version is decent, primarily because it was a "cover" of Disturbed's cover. Disturbed's composition was fantastic instrumentally, and vocally. It preserved the melody of the original song yet brought a dramatic darkness that fits the words perfectly. Pentatonic simply followed the road map created by Disturbed.

As a fan of Disturbed, I love this gorgeous musical performance that is a direct answer to the claim that heavy metal is noise with no musical value. As you can imagine, this rendition of the song shut them up. The Conan version is beautiful.

It is stunning and even more so live on Conan with the orchestra behind him and the Tempe drums? David was sick too, running a fever and he went on anyway. The story goes that he told them to not use autotune but the show did and there is a specific part where he briefly looks annoyed when he hears it. He didn’t need it. He was classically trained as a cantor and it shines in this song, both the video and live performance. He is a performer too, he had to sit down during that live show because he was sick and yet if you watch his eyes he scans the audience from side to side. It is a contrast for me, those clear high notes contrasting beautifully later with his growl distortion. So talented! T ✌🏻

I went down the Disturbed rabbit hole in 2020 as every shut down due to COVID. As was stated earlier, Paul Simon loved this version. David Draiman joined the band in 1995 and their first big hit Was Down with the Sickness. Draiman has a different approach to heavy metal. He does a guttural fry different from most heavy metal singers. Draiman was trained as a Jewish Cantor in he youth, like his father and grandfather before him. His brother is an opera singer. Not all the bands hits are heavy metal. They released a new album recently, and one of my favorites is Don’t Tell Me with Ann Wilson of heart. Great video, lyrics, and duet! By the way I still have my original vinyl of Simon and Garfunkel with Sound of Silence!

Kathy here - just found your channel. 68 years old and loved the original, which was a simpler of saying we need to start "listening" to each other and talking to each other. Disturbeds version is basically amping it up to wake people the hell up! This world is going to hell in a hand basket. Thanks for your review. Also, David Draiman was trained as a Cantor, as much of his family members did. When he decided to go in another direction, he hired a vocal coach to help him learn the "growl" that he has.
