Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON request with Tina Arena and her song "Je m'appelle Bagdad." Taking it back to 2006, and fast forward, Tina sounds very different. Not the kind of song I wished it could showcase her vocals more, but not a stunner either. See my reaction now!

The purpose of this song was not to show her vocal capabilities but to make a tribute on en destruction done during Iraq war. The depth is the lyrics. Her accent in her French songs is so cute 😀

yes it's Tina Arena! And no, this music is from 2005! For my part it's thanks to this music I am completely in love! Frankly if you watch this song live you will be less disappointed !, because it sends much more in live! And she repeats the chorus with an even higher key! I recommend the one of the "symphony of life" or "The Onstage Collection 2010" Thank you for everything!

Hello *Dereck,* For me, it works well. This time she no needs to shout as she does on most of her songs, and I don't appreciate it. She's restrained here, vocally, but ultimately also, much more in the emotion of the text. The arrangements with this tribal sounds and voices are so good too. For me, a very good song. It has to be listened to again closely. Peace, folks. ☮🤗

I am a huge fan of Tina Arena she has a catalogue of songs spanning 40 years. She started off on an Australian program where she mainly sang covers along with people such as Dannii Minogue (Kylie's sister) If you type her name into google there are many many songs she has sung. She sings in French, Spanish, Italian also. Her husband is French. I have had the privilege to see her 3 times live and she is a fantastic singer. If you want a more up to date tune try "Church" by her.

This song is a gem. Listen to it 2 or 3 times in a row and understand the lyrics, you couldn't dislike it. And no Dereck, her voice is not "ok", her voice is insane, perfect technique, emotional, Tina is a powerhouse, I would buy a ticket anytime to see her. She's to me in the top 10 of the most beautiful voices in the world, she always delivers. I wish he came back to France, we haven't seen her again here for years...:(

It's hard to appreciate a song in a different language. Even in translation some meaning and emotion is lost. If you are fluent in both languages it is easier to appreciate the song.

her french output is very different... Chains war typical destined for the anglosaxon market.. and her french output did not much outside le monde francophone... but was huge in France.. Chains is probably outstanding but she did not keep the level in her english output and I think the french one was quality.. though that particular song is not my fave of her french ones

I think if she sang the same way as Chains in every other song it'd be pretty boring. This song is an emotional epic, especially back in 2005 (post-Iraq war era), but potentially knowing the language during the song would be better

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Tina Arena. This song "Je M'Appelle Bagdad" (My Name Is Baghdad) was released on May 22, 2006 as the second single from her fifth album "Un Autre Univers" (Another Universe), but also the Australian female singer's first entirely in French. This title was ranked No.6 in the charts, selling over 100,000 copies and certified silver disc. It was widely broadcast on the radio waves, thus contributing to its success, becoming one of the titles of Tina Arena's career that marked the French public the most. The song is a political title that poetically and no less explicitly denounces the second Gulf War but also the fall of the city of Baghdad. In a colorful way, it evokes the fallen life of Queen Sherazade peacefully living her life in a castle on the day when everything collapses for her because of this conflict. This track was co-composed by David Gategno or David Marouani one of the male singers of the duo David & Jonathan of the 80's, two teenagers from 18 to 20 years old who marked the end of this 80's decade and also the heart of teenagers with their songs as well as the TOP 50 with Bella Vita (1987), Gina (1987) and Est-ce Que Tu Viens Pour Les Vacances? in 1988. They were "hitmakers" at the time and very popular. In this opus, the best song is "Aimer Jusqu'A L'Impossible" the lead single ranked no.3 for 3 weeks and with 30 weeks of presence! Thanks for your great work our Frenchie American pal. 👍🇫🇷
