Eddie Van Halen only met Pantera counterpart "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott a few weeks before he was shot dead on stage with his band Damageplan on Dec. 8, 2004. But Van Halen’s touching personal tribute, in burying one of his famed guitars with Abbott, demonstrates how close a relationship they’d already built - and suggests how much closer they would have become. On the day of the funeral, Dec. 14, Van Halen arrived with an instrument - but it wasn’t a new one, it was the original one featured on the back of Van Halen II, dating from 1979. He told Haney, “An original should have an original.” But he couldn’t bring himself to view Dime’s body, explaining, “I can’t go in there… I want to remember him like he was that night I met him.” So Haney delivered the gift. Holding up the guitar, complete with rusted strings, Haney told her late lover, “See, baby? You didn’t get a replica - you got the one!” She kissed his forehead as she placed it in his casket. ROCK IN PEACE DIMEBAG & EVH.

Pantera is one of those all time great metal bands. Their influence was massive in the metal world. Dimebag will remain an influential metal guitarist for many years to come, even after his passing, his influence is still felt. I feel like Lamb of God was carrying the great southern metal band torch for a while after Pantera disbanded. You have to see Pantera's live performance of Domination. It's in black and white and should be easy to find. And I will always remember Beavis and Butt-Head reacting to Pantera's "This Love" video. It was a big insight to Beavis's mental state, and it will be hilarious to me forever. It was Beavis and Butt-Head that introduced me to Pantera. And if anyone has played the original Doom and Doom II in the 90s, many songs from the soundtrack were "borrowed" from Pantera. There's some useless information for the day. Lol. Loved your reaction, you got these guys immediately. Cheers.

@@ryansalmons5279 that's pretty cool, I didn't know that. And I thought I knew everything about Dimebag. But it doesn't surprise me, dimebag was a huge influence to everyone around him. Dear Aileen, Metal went through a period of stagnation in the early 1990s, there were no major releases and everything was very repetitive, until two phenomena (in my opinion) emerged, Pantera and Machine Head. I live in São Paulo, Brazil and here Pantera played two sold out shows. I was there, and it was even difficult to breathe because there were three thousand people squeezing and shaking non-stop. It was crazy, but at the same time unforgettable because it was Pantera's greatest moment! It's really cool to see you listening to Pantera and other iconic bands in history, like Iron Maiden. There are a multitude of bands I would love to see you reviewing. I really like your videos. Greetings from Brazil!

5:17 OMFG, you have a great ear for music...you noticed the rythum section underneath the solo laying the foundation for Dime to solo? OMG, you are marriage material! lol Seriously, very good ear to be able to separate all sections out...because they each play a vital role and in Pantera being a 3 piece (Guitar, Bass, Drums) its really important that those foundations are solid and Rex and Vinnie were super tight, so once Dime solo'd the vibe didn't drop off but carried on. \m/

Bands like Pantera, Slipknot, Architects, and Avenged Sevenfold leave me at a crossroads… On one hand, I lament the fact that I didn’t discover those bands before the deaths of some of their iconic members. But on the other hand, I feel gratitude for the legacy left by Dimebag and Vinne Paul from Pantera, by the Rev from Avenged Sevenfold, by Paul and now Joey from Slipknot, and Tom Searle from Architects (his legacy is cemented in his literal swan song, Memento Mori from the All Gods have Abandoned Us record, the lyrics written by him shortly before his death from cancer). This is a morbid comment of mine, but since my own grandmother’s passing back in April this year, I can’t help but reflect on concepts like “legacy” and their importance

It is interesting that Pantera started as glam-metal band, they released 3 studio albums in that genre, but searching for more heavier sound they hired Phil Anselmo as vocalist for their 4th studio album, 'Power metal'... The rest is history. Anselmo is 4-octave beast, if you want more melodic stuff there's 'Cemetery gates' or 'This love', but if you want more in line of 'Walk', there's 'Cowboys from hell' or 'Drag The Waters'...

Exodus and their fans turned them into a real metal band when Exodus took Pantera on the road in the late 80’s..true story

The first time I heard this song was in 1992 during Drivers Education. We were doing our Driving portion in a 1990 Ford Tempo. Our instructor had to run to the bank so as we waited my friend put in the "Vulgar Display of Power" cassette...yes cassette in the tape deck. This was the the first song I heard. Been hooked on Pantera since!

Wow - you never having heard Pantera before makes me feel so effin’ old! They were like one of the biggest bands around in the late 90s early 2000’s. Funny, sad and happy all at once! R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie - the Abbott brothers are missed!!

Oh my. You’ve found the motherload. Floods, Cemetery Gates, A New Level, 5 Minutes Alone, War Nerve, 10’s and so many more. Dimebag is one of the best Floyd Rose Guitar players ever. The Dive Bombs, pinch harmonics and whammy pedal screeches make for some of the greatest guitar work ever. They have a whole era prior to the Cowboys from Hell record. They weren’t the whiskey drinking, rough and tumble Texas guttural metal band that we fell in love with in the 90’s. Pantera was Glam Metal. With leather pants and hairspray. But they evolved into a metal juggernaut. Dimebag was viciously slaughtered like John Lennon. Long live the Cowboys from Hell!
