Stevie used heavy 12 and 13 gauge strings that gave his guitar it’s unique tone and powerful sound. He raised the bridge to accommodate the thickness of the strings. There is a reactor that plays guitar and he said that he played the same king of guitar set up the way Stevie’s guitar was set up. He said he couldn’t play more than five minutes before his fingers couldn’t take the pain. Rock guitar legend, Eric Clapton was in awe of Stevie. Eric was asked to play in a concert with Stevie on the bill. Stevie played first and when it was time for Eric to go on he didn’t want to go on. When asked why, Eric said, “How am I supposed to follow that?!”

That riff he did right at the beginning was one of the first things I learned to play on guitar. It's the starting point for all blues music. I can still play it, but definitely not like he could. You have got to do more SRV. His family is in love with the fact people are rediscovering his talent. There is nothing but love from them.

Great reaction brother! 🤙🏼 I’m sure it’s a challenge to find the right balance between commenting and letting a vid play so as to not interrupt the artist’s flow and energy. There are many formulas out there. You’ll keep getting better. I had no issues with this one. By the way, Stevie does sing. In fact, he has an AMAZING Texas blues voice! The man was placed on this earth to do exactly what he did. Just would’ve been nice to have him here a little longer. RIP.

Just gained a new Subby! So stoked you did this song from this show - hardly ever reacted to and it is one of my favorites cuz he just RIPS into his guitar - his tone and ability to let it all hang loose, this one really puts it on display. Bro, I love how real and cool you rep about yourself and caring about others. That is the real stuff. AS FOR SRV!!! This whole concert - he is ON FIRE. You can do every track from El Mocambo (not to jinx but they seem to make it thru YT for other reactors) and his energy and intensity and magic music never drops off one bit. He sings plenty but does some instrumentals like this and some slow jazzy ones - like "Lenny" from this same show - that are so beautiful and powerful they just leave you mind blown, like most of his work) He is amazing regardless, a truly GREAT voice. But on this one, he just ripped into that Fender Stratocaster (he called it 'NUMBER 1' an old beat up 1962 that is arguably the sickest - and most valuable - guitar on the face of the Earth). This show captured him in the year before he was 'discovered.' He can lay into a groove and rhythm like none other. Also, he is improvising 50% or more while he plays - he has some go-to licks and patterns, but he lets his spirit drift into some other magic land and he gives 200% and brings the magic back to us and is just straight-up channeling from another dimension in real time up there. You can see it in his face. Peace/

I'm from Northern Ireland (tiny country) and I have definitely heard and listened to SRV even the set he played on MTV on acoustic guitar in real time. SRV was on a different level playing his own lead and back up at the same time. Played with those big ass 13 strings. Its said all the greats have their own sound Stevie created his own. Brought blues from his guitar to everyone's ear. Yes you could totally understand what he sang from those strings but his voice was also fantastic. There will never ever be a replica replacement or even anyoneclose. He is the guitarist's guitarist admired by all his so called peers even the greats BB King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Albert King to name but a few. He was sensational. One of the few GOATS

"Little Wing" is my favorite 'song' in the Universe. The 2 1/2 minute original by Jimi Hendrix, melted me with his soft, sweet voice. I was barely14. And any amazing version by Stevie Ray. Beautiful composition by genius J.H.

Ahh, the Pause Police, always ready to pounce. I'm okay with pausing as long as it's not long and/or frequent. But I love listening to detailed reactions , and you really came through. Speaking of Roadhouse, have you heard SRV's "Willie the Wimp"? Watch "Voodoo Child" Nashville, breaks a string but still plays it behind his back. Definately react--"Little Wing", el Macombo. Watch "Tin Pan Alley"with Johnny Copeland. Watch "Tightrope", another el Macombo show. Scorching solo. Gone now, but never forgotten if we pass down his music to each new generation. Stevie when singing or not could speak though his guitar. When he recorded his 1st album it was done during a Thanksgiving weekend. A musician named Jackson Brown let him used his studio for free. They recorded the album without doing over dubs it was recored as played live. Go listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble at Austin City Limits. There are 2 shows a earlier show before he went into rehabilitation. The second show is after he came out of intensive rehabilitation. When he came out of rehab he didn't know if he could play or perform again he had never done it without drinking and doing coke in later years. But he picked it up and played as good if not better than before. On stage he looked healthy happier but still played from his heart. Double Trouble had written a song called " Walking the TightRope ". The words if you listen to them can have various meanings, but to me it has to do with Stevie and Shannon, the bassist getting clean. If Stevie had not sought treatment when he did he would have died. He had been putting coke in his whiskey which tore his stomach up. Listen to these 2 performances completely and maybe you'll have a better understanding of who Stevie was a a musician and person. I met with him a few times. He was extremely kind but also believe it or not shy. We talked about music, I've played guitar all my life. He showed me his guitars and lest me play #1 stratocaster and Lenny, and others ,he gave names to his guitars. I call mine my ladies. I had built a acoustic 12 string from raw wood th as t had been dried but I had to cut it so it could be used to make a instrument from. It was not a kit guitar but actually made all by hand. He played it and told me it was one of the best sounding 12 strings he had ever played. It just so happens that Inset my guitars up exactly to the same specs as his guitar is set at. I just use thinner strings. When I was younger I used the same strings. I use the same gauge strings on my acoustic, same brand and I play and practice on my acoustic a lot makes your hands stronger plus you learn to play cleaner you can hear every mistake you make. It seems that the musicians that come along and make a difference and change in music seem to die to early. Stevie died after a outdoor concert from a helicopter accident. Eric Clapton would have been on that chopper but Stevie wanted to get back and call hid girlfriend so Clapton said take my seat. He died with some of Eric Clapton's crew on board. Everyone said that during that day Stevie was in great spirts all day long, more so than usual, extremely high spirited. He played that night with a vengeance and the last song " Home Town Chicago" with all the other well known famous musicians, and he hit the 1st note and it was so loud it took Eric Clapton and everyone by surprise. They said he stolen the show with his performance. Stevie could play all night and not play the samething, you'll hear riffs but he goes off into his own world. When he's making the faces that's not made up that's what he's feeling his heart he speaks from the heart. When you hear him bends notes and breaks them down like they're crying that's his heart. I could tell you enough about Stevie I could write a very long article on him and his life. I know this man inside and out. When you listen to him sing and play listen to his voice and the words he makes his voice express the songs feeling along with making his guitar speak the feeling of the song what he's singing and feeling. He's a true blues artist who brought back a genre of music and art that people were losing. People still listen to Stevie but they should go and listen to his influences to get more o picture of where his music and he came from. He left home at 15 to pursue a music career same as I did. I'm alittle older than Stevie. He just had it in him that he was going to play music no matter what. He wasn't the original singer. But after the 1st singer left LoAnn he stepped up to the mic.

The greatest part about watching SRV live is realizing that, on an instrumental like this, he was just warming up. He started every show with one or two instrumentals, just to get going. And THIS was him just starting up. Enjoy your trip down the SRV rabbit hole. I was blessed to see Stevie Ray 6 times and every show was absolutely incredible.

Yep, I am a Gen X'er coming up on 50 pretty soon. We got to experience the old music all the way back into the 1940's still being popular (thanks to our parents and even grandparents), and we got to experience the musical explosion that was still popular from the 1960s to the 1980s, and then got to experience artists like SRV, Gary Moore, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Johnny Lang, and a few others, who were influenced by the old music and put out great music from the mid 1980s into the 1990s. Then came the 2000s... we won't even talk about that, lol.

I took guitar lessons for a year. Before that, I taught myself but I wanted "more" I guess. At the end of the year, I had a final test to move to the next level. I had to learn how to play some chords and some solos and I could choose one last thing to play. I'm a perfectionist, I wanted to choose something not too easy but something I would nail but I took too long to decide, so my teacher chose something for me. He made me learn how to play the intro riff of Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of "Mary had a little Lamb". I had never heard it before and when I did, I was petrified! How was I going to play that?! Remember, this was my first year! I didn't nail it but I passed the test.
