Great reaction! Babymetal's music is very diverse so their fanbase is very diverse as well. When I first got into Babymetal I got into that metal vs not metal argument but then realized it was a waste of time. Who cares!!? It's F'n good! That is all that matters. Life is a lot more fun when you stop over-analyzing subjective things like music and just be in the moment.

Video is from 11 years ago. Audio is the studio audio dubbed over the live video for the music video. They are still going strong, maybe stronger now than ever.

Their new stuff is "more metal" for lack of a better way to say it. If they keep reinventing themselves, I think they're be around for a long time.

Regarding if its playback or not. In the earliest shows it was playback, then the main singer was live and then all three was live. I have no dates on when that happened. But, I am 100% sure the main singer Su is not playback here, probably they are all three singing. NOTE also that its no real band here. That is playback, you can se that on that they are wearing the skeleton suites. . But, soon it will be the Kami band, and then it is live.

One thing I haven't noticed in the comments is about the content of the song--which is about fat-shaming. The essence of the lyrics is that girls shouldn't have to fight the desire to eat a single piece of chocolate because they are afraid of looking fat. Many of their songs have this sort of message - trying to tell young people they don't have to conform to be happy and shouldn't harm themselves because they aren't popular, and that bullying always brings payback, often from even nastier bullies (their song Karma). so besides being amazingly themselves and very very professional about it, they do have a positive message going out to their fanbase

You asked about lip-synching. They did lip-synch for their very, earliest shows. Su-Metal started singing live soon after. The other girls started singing live later still (maybe not yet in this video, so only Su-Metal was probably singing live here). They couldn't afford a live band early on, so if you see the 'baby bones' band, like in this track, the music was a backing track. They went to a live band permanently, starting at their first Budokan concert. So, eventually, everyone was singing and playing live (along with some occasional effects or harmonies on a backing track). Anyway, that's my understanding of their history. If anyone has corrections, please let us know.

my top five favorite bands of all time are massacre, vader, bolt thrower, napalm death, and carcass. but when i get dibs on the speaker at the gym, im often blasting babymetal. i understand not liking it. or not caring for any particular thing for that matter. but writing it off because it's not "real metal" is ridiculous to me. it's 100% produced. but like most things the japanese produce, it's fucking quality. there's an insane amount of talent and it's fun.

I saw them in early March in Japan. It was wild. What you said about them being “gorgeous” and “cute” is spot on because when we got our first good look at the three current women, my wife said, “They’re so beautiful!” Video doesn’t do them justice.

Thank you for your honest and open-minded reaction. - subscribed. I am a 76 year old Japanese, who once loved metal but drifted away with age due to many negative messages in metal. Then I accidentally encountered BABYMETAL just when I was suffering from pet loss of my dog. They cured me instantly. They put a smile on my face every single time! Welcome to the FOX HOLE! 🦊

Excellent first reaction, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Seeing them supporting Sabaton probably wasn't the ideal (especially if you were a bit out of it). They were quite limited on both time and space with Sabaton's tank behind all the covers etc and they couldn't even use the screen for extra visuals - and it was hard to really see them with Sabaton's posts and barbed wire across the front of the stage.
