Bruce has a 4 octave range, not even some opera singers can claim that.
@akairis89204 жыл бұрын
You can't compare opera singers to pop/rock singers. Opera singers train hard to develop the range they're most comfortable with to perfection - something normal singers will not do, at least not to that degree. Opera voices need to be incredibly consistent in resonance to be heard over an orchestra without a microphone. The richness of your vocal comfort zone simply cannot be matched by seeking the absolute limits of your range. Not saying Bruce is bad or something. Really looking forward to see him performing again this year. Twice. Is going to be amazing.
@savage12k4 жыл бұрын
You certainly can compare pop/rock singers to opera singers. He just did. And I’ll go one further, man o’ war can compete with most opera performances I’ve ever seen. In fact they did a cover of Nessus Dorma that you could expect to see in the met. The difference between pop/rock singers/bands and opera singers? Pop/rock singers can also sing other genres of music. Opera singers are so specialized that it is difficult, if not impossible, for them to branch out.
@akairis89204 жыл бұрын
@@savage12k And it's exactly that ultra specialization that makes it incredibly difficult to compare opera singers to pop/rock singers, because crossovers are incredibly hard _for both._ Manowar's Nessun Dorma? Compared to actual opera singers, I think that performance is all over the place. Let him do that in an opera house and I bet he won't make it. The consistency in his voice is just not there.

'Run to the Hills' got me interested in Maiden, 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' made me a fan. I love the way they incorporate so much variety in their music, how the songs are melodic in a genre that isn't too well known for it, how the lyrics are so well put together, and yet can tell an original story ('Dance of Death', 'Number of the Best'), adapt an old one ('Phantom of the Opera', 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'), or even be educational ('Alexander the Great', 'Paschendale', 'Empire of the Clouds'). I find it difficult to recommend any particular song over others as you'd really need to listen to their entire catalogue, but I really like 'Empire of the Clouds, 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Trooper', 'Remember Tomorrow', 'Can I play with Madness', 'Journeyman', 'Dance of Death', and yes, even some of the Blaze Bayley era such as '2 A.M.', and 'The Edge of Darkness'. Really, 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' is an amazing song, but there's so much that is just as good, if not better.
@chillmeisterfunk4 жыл бұрын
Edge of Darkness is an incredible song. Blaze's deeper voice fit the darker theme of the X Factor perfectly, in a such a way I'm not sure that Bruce would've pulled off.

Iron Maiden and Motorhead are two of the most popular bands to come out of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal era in the 1970s. Some would argue for Def Leppard but I don't consider them metal, more like AC/DC meets Van Halen, party rock. My dad was a big fan of TNWOBHM, I remember listening to bands like Grim Reaper, Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Raven as a kid. In 1983 one of the first albums I ever bought was Metallica's Kill 'Em All after my dad took me to see them open for Raven that summer, we drove from Vancouver, Canada to Portland, Oregon.

As I’m approaching my 52nd birthday I actually believe these songs are proof the best metal ever made has already been done. This is is almost an impossibly amazing song and performance.

Very few singers outside of Opera can hold a note like Bruce Dickinson, and this song allows him to show it off. The man's a living legend. He even beat throat cancer. He's also a true renaissance man, he can do everything from fence (the sport) to fly a bloody 747.

1 of my top 3 Maiden songs! /m\ It's so funny because the guitarists are much more animated in more recent performances. Interesting to see them just standing there playing way back when. MAD props to the drummer --- he never stopped! And Bruce... sick as always.

So many great Maiden tunes, but Fear of the Dark, live in Rio won’t disappoint! Keep going with the live jams too!

"The trooper" and likely my fav "2 minutes to midnight". Those, along with this one, are the necessities; the rest is the gravy on top

Man, we were young once, and these guys ruled the day. This is sounds of my teens and early 20's- they were amazing beyond belief in concert. I got to see them once for this album and they totally rocked it. Steve Harris, the bassist, was the best bass player in music. A lot of times the bass is kind of hidden to focus on the guitars or the drummer or whatever strength a particular band might have had, but you can actually hear the bass in their songs and rightly so. Fantastic choice for your first exposure to Maiden!
