Kendrick is a real rapper whose music I've literally used to change the minds of old white people (I'm a white guy myself) about what hip hop is as an art form. I can do that because he talks about real human sh*t that damn near everyone can relate to on some level. It's not just bragging and boasting about being hard and having all the money, which is what they have generally seen it as and which leads them to the opinion that it's not 'real music' or isn't worth listening to. Kendrick is one of the very few that is truly pushing hip hop forward as an art form and expanding the boundaries for everyone else.

You REALLY need to review Man At The Garden. The 3rd verse is *unreal* I can 100% see a live horn section - an HBCU band or something - playing that 2nd section of tv off at the Super Bowl. If you look at everything he's talking about, it's very clear that he made most of this album only within the last couple months. It's all really recent stuff he's addressing, which is crazy considering how damn good the entire album is. Highest level of production, too.

The person on the outro is Left Gunplay. The beat is by DJ Mustard who also did the beat on Not Like Us which is why it sounds familiar. As far as a grandma line goes, the lead in bar talks about how folks feel entitled or think that Kendrick owes them something because they grew up with him. He finishes that thought by saying I'll cut off my own grandma (who he loves a lot) if she don't see it how I see it, so you think I give a damn about you? You think I won't cut you off? 😉
