This concert sells out a year in advance. When I bought my tickets, this was not the singer of the band. Still, we all really liked her from the first song. At that time though, she was not a member of the band, but rather she was filling in until the end of the tour. The band did hold her in high regard though, so it was not surprising to anyone that she was hired before the end of the year.

Greetings from Wisconsin and welcome to Nightwish. This rabbit hole is deep and varied. From dark metal to soft ballads and so much in between. I emphasize that all songs performed by Floor Jansen at this Wacken 2013 show were originally recorded with previous singers. The version of "Ghost Love Score" that has been recommended to you is no different. There are no studio versions of these songs with Floor singing. Thankfully, the audio quality on this live show is great. The entire show was recorded and is available on DVD (where this YT video came from), CD, and streaming platforms as "Showtime, Storytime". As others have said, lyrics to Nightwish songs are very poetic and often complicated. Definitely read through them. Be advised though that the lyrics you may find, even the closed captions on some of the live videos, sometimes don't match exactly with what is performed. A word here or there is different. I'm not sure if these are mistakes or choices, but don't let the difference put you off as they do make sense in context.

Nightwish is a genre unto itself. Symphonic metal describes it pretty well, but they can do anything from hard rock like you saw here, to soft ballads. The lead singer, Floor Jansen, and the bassist/male vocalist Marko Hietala, are both powerful singers and the rest of the band is just as talented. This band delivers, every single time. General Gabriel (fans of Nightwish are called the Nightwish Army) should be along and he will tell you a lot more about the band and the music. Follow his recommendations and you can't go wrong.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. The reason why you were asked to listen to the live version at this Wacken 2013 concert is because most of the Nightwish fans on KZbin prefer this singer, Floor Jansen, who only joined in late 2012. She is singing every song recorded by the two previous singers Tarja Turunen (1996-2005 operatic) and Anette Olzon ( 2007-2012 pop) and taking them all to another level. Nightwish is one of the few bands that is best live. Romanticide is one of the incredible songs Nightwish did at this 2013 Wachen concert. Floor Jansen has been on the symphonic circuit starting with After Forever at 16 years old. Nightwish came some might say around the same time...let's say 1997 is a good base time for both. I'm sure Gabriel can attest to that. So it became almost inevitable or fate you might say that it came to be. Little note on lyrics and live VS studio: Nightwish'es lyrics are a bit difficult to catch even in studio versions, because the lyrics themselves are quite poetic and complicated. You're better off watching live videos with captions if you want to catch the meaning (and it won't disappoint, I promise). Live versions are better than studio in 99% cases with this band

The mastermind of the band Tuomas Holopainen (the keybordist) is very versatile, so he has created music in very different subgenres, as well as progressive folk (two albums by group "Auri" and his very own project "Lifetime of Adventure"). So,. just take any song, except "The Poet and the Pendulum" and "The endlessness"- these should be put off until later, to learn more about maestro Holopainen, and former basist and male vocalist Marko Hietala.

So glad you found Nightwish. They are amazing. Their 6’1” classically trained Dutch singer Floor Jansen is the best female singer out there. As for your reaction style, I love your enthusiasm but saying “ok” every 5 seconds and the constant commentary over the music is a tad off putting.

TSO is more hard rock than metal and typically American. Symphonic metal is typically European. It lacks the African-American music influence and Nightwish has Celtic influences instead. The confusion with Ghost Love Score is even greater because there are versions with two different singers and different endings. The video with the most reaction videos on KZbin is the version from the Wacken concert in 2013. The version with the first singer is from the End of an Era concert in 2005. The (burning) bull skull is the logo of the Wacken Open Air. The German WOA is one of the oldest and largest metal festivals with 85,000 visitors, an additional 15,000 visit the village of Wacken. Vocalist Floor Jansen is 6', guitarist Empuu 5.3'. She was once asked who would win in a fight between the two. Her answer was Empuu because he has a black belt in judo. Judokas like people who are bigger and stronger than them because they can take advantage of that. Just before the end you scored an own goal, you mentioned Amy Lee. Sorry for the person who used harsh words. The comparison is often made by Americans because Amy sounds very European. In Europe nobody comes up with the idea because Amy Lee is typical. Singers are generally not always understandable because speaking and singing are not always compatible. High notes require you to open your mouth wide, which causes problems when the text requires closed lips. The result is a compromise. The first singer Tarja is difficult to understand in the early songs because she sings with a strong Finnish accent. There is no studio version with Floor of any of the songs at this concert. In 2012 the band and their second singer had a falling out. Two days before the next concert they suddenly had no singer and Floor had to travel from the Netherlands to the USA within 48 hours and learn a 1.5 hour setlist by heart. She says of her first concert that her voice was only 50 percent there and that she sometimes had to sing behind the front row because she didn't know the lyrics. Mastermind and keyboardist Tuomas says she was perfect. She saved the band from falling apart. At the Wacken concert, she had been touring with the band for 10 months. Officially, she is only the season singer, but it had already been agreed within the band that she would be the third singer. Today, she is the longest-serving singer. The Wacken audience is special. Advance sales start shortly after the end of the festival and are sold out within a short time, without people knowing the full line-up. They go because it's the WOA and are always in a good mood.
