Haha, did you not believe it was Floor growling 😂, she’s rather good at it - she doesn’t use it so much in Nightwish but in her previous band she was badass with it 🤣 Very close to getting the meaning of the lyrics, it’s more about the social media and internet trolls. Floor's first band (After Forever) was with a male vocalist who growled, Mark Jansen (now in Epica). After that she started her own band (Revamp) and started growling herself. With her pretty singing it's easy to forget she has always been a metalhead. Revamp even has a song with Mark Jansen for which Floor switched between both vocal parts on her own when playing live. Indeed this is Floor, I was also shocked when I first heared it. I think in general their voices are great together. And for that reason "While Your Lips Are Still Red" Live at Wembley Arena (a great ballad) and "Wish I had an angel" from Wacken 2013 , for me, are among their best momemts.

YEY! Nightwish again ❤ The song as about "internet trolls" and yes, it is Floor growling, you can now be 100% ;) The venue is a "small" cruise ship between Finland and Sweden, so it is a small venue, and by the end she thanks the audience, first in Finnish then in Swedish and last in English.

Yes, it was a "small" venue, because it was from a cruise ship, and those old ships probably hold 2000 people. A few months ago, a cruise ship for 10,000 people was built in Finland.

I actually considered buying a ticket to this cruise, but unfortunately it took place during my hiatus from Nightwish. Kind of amusing that Floor's doing her "siren song" aboard a ship 😄 I suspect someone else has mentioned it by now, but yeah, Narcissus is from Greek mythology, although he was a mortal, not a god. At the end of this clip, Floor is saying "thank you very much" in Finnish, Swedish, and English. Her Swedish pronunciation is actually very good, and if I didn't know better I'd at least have assumed that she was Nordic. 🙂 As she's living in Sweden nowadays, her Swedish is of course even better now! Very good! You spotted so many things most reactors don't. And you got the meaning too. Keyboard warriors sitting in mummy's basement stuffing pizza in their faces... Not just the growling but I noticed you picked up on dome little instrumental touches I love that go largely unremarked. BTW, this version recorded on the Nightwish Cruise (which was small) is not the best. Wembley, Tampere, even Joensun are all better in my book. You will hear Floor growl elsewhere. For example when you get to Ghost River at Wacken 2013 just keep an ear open. Its short but its there.

They actually zoom in on Floor's growls because I'm thinking since this was on a cruise, the camera operators work for the cruise line and not the band.... and what do they know, right? 😂 About the meaning, you hit so close around the nail but never hit it dead on. One could actually agree with you as well, but it's about people trolling on the internet. @Koality Reactions: You finally got to it. This song is one of the few that still gives me shivers, because of the low growls from Floor. And when I first realized it was Floor growling, my mind was blown. That being said, I've already seen comments saying that "there are better versions" of this song. And those people are wrong -- this version is the best out of every version I've ever heard. Why? Two words: Sound balance. First, the closeness of venue keeps the sound impactful. Yours Is An Empty Hope is a song that comes at you, sonically, hits you, and keeps hitting you. In an arena, that sound gets diluted and the impact from the sound balance gets severely lessened. Second, Floor's growling. In most other performances of this song, Floor isn't as low, and sounds like she is fry growling (listen to Grant Truesdell fry growl, Unleash the Archers, for a comparison). In Yours Is An Empty Hope, the growling is meant to be intimidating -- essentially making people think twice about how their own actions can awaken even an angry beast if it keeps getting poked. Without the lowness of Floor's growls being where they are in other venues, this aspect gets covered up and lost. That being said, Tuomas wrote this song trolling the various groups of people denigrating Floor as the lead singer, who, after more than 15-20 years, are still mad about Tarja and her firing in 2005. Those people haven't moved on and still live in the past. At the same time, Tuomas also addressed a lot of the rabid fanbase Floor has, especially those living parasocially through Nightwish, specifically Floor -- and does so via the title of the song, when he calls out the "Floor is my wifey!" crowd, and he responds with, "Yours is an empty hope." Essentially, with this song, Tuomas is telling people who have nothing better to do than incessantly be online at all hours of the day, to get off the internet, go outside, and do something other than be part of the toxicity problem many corners of the internet have become.

Floor definitely growls! Full on growls are just not Nighwish style, which is why they were employed like backing vocals to Marco's cleans. The venue was relatively small, it's a cruise ship, so there's no having tens of thousands of people. Nighwish cruise, a bit like a sailing festival with Nighwish as the headliner.

Great analysis - Tuomas deliberately leaves things open for personal interpretation, so you can't really be wrong about the meaning of lyrics, but in this case you were in sync with him on the negativity anyway - you just missed the specificity of internet trolls (which is only indicated briefly right at the start). Wembley has the better sound, but this is the one that makes me want to be there! (If you want to hear more growling from Floor, check out _Disdain_ from her previous band, Revamp.)
