I've never been able to listen to this version of The Great Gig in the Sky without crying. The studio version is amazing - raw and wild. But this one is polished to a high shine and it just kills me every time, especially when Durga McBroom (the second singer) comes in. This is one of the greatest concerts of all time and I hope you listen to more of it, because the only thing better than Pink Floyd is Pink Floyd live. ✌🏽🤘🏽🖖🏽

At the end of the song, at 7:40 in your video, you say: "Not many lyrics..." Sometimes words are simply not enough to express the emotions experienced by a person, having to face the worst moment of their life. This song is a cry from the heart, which calls out to the listener's heart.

Everything already said. Album version is even better. Clare Tory was a session singer brought in for an afternoon, paid £30, given no real guidance apart from no words. She did it in a couple of takes and left feeling she had done a bad job. Now she’s music history. She later caught and got a writing credit for it so she ended up with more than £30.

This song always brings tears to my eyes. My own opinion, if you can believe it, is that the original album track is better. Do yourself a favor and listen to it too, then decide for yourself. On the studio version, it is sung by one vocalist, Clare Torre. It's a very special treat either way.

You can't find anymore, the true reason of what Claire Torrey was told when she sang it (orig). HOLOCAUST w/out words was put in her head. The unknown, wait-what?...then. The gamit "from-too" inevitable acceptance. Lambs too?

You are liking the production, sound and meaning of this song. You really should consider looking into the album as a whole. Dark Side of the Moon is a "concept album." This song fits into the album at a specific spot for a specific purpose and relates to the other songs on the album for a complete theme. The Wall goes a step further, as it included a movie based on the story of the songs on the album. Both of these deserve comprehensive looks, if you like and appreciate the work these guys do - Also, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council were two blues musicians back in the '60's that Syd Barrett, a founding member of PF liked. This is where the bands name came from.

Pink Floyd has been my favorite group since 1970 when i first heard them. I remember hearing this song about a month after the album came out and it has always been my favorite song ever! You should listen to the studio version sung by Clare Torrey and also watch the interview with Clare where she explains that song. Liked! Subscribed! You two are great, BTW. This video always gives me chills. Yes, it is about the five stages of death. Sam Brown does Denial and Anger (superbly). Durga McBroom does Barganing and Depression (what a voice) and Claudia Fontaine (no one could have done it better) does Acceptance. Three of the best female voices ever. Sadly, Sam Brown, the blonde singer, lost her singing voice. But I am happy to have recently read that she has regained her singing voice! You go girl! Oh, and by the way, I am sipping a single malt scotch. ;-)

By definition, not really lyrics. Those were spoken recorded responses to questions written by Roger Waters and given to people who happen to be working or visiting the Abbey Road studios one day. They added selected responses throughout the album in the spots they thought worked best.

I'm an old guy. This song has great meaning even tho there's no words. It's about the stages of grief one is in when they find out they're dying. 20 years ago a long-time friend was diagnosed with cancer. When I went to the hospital to visit, I asked him how he felt about his circumstances. He said, remember the "Great Gig In The Sky"? I said of course and he said, well I'm at the second verse ( for lack of a better word since there are no lyrics) if you know what I mean. The third verse would come 2 weeks later. I will never forget him or this very powerful song. Great stuffs folks..
