Sabaton are always non-political, they simply tell stories of war and those who tok part, highlighting heroism, skills and humanity from wherever it's shown. Everyone - Germans, Russians, Americans, Poles - if Sabaton has a song about a people, person or event in a war that took place, it's because there is something that deserves to be remembered. Sabaton also encourages reactions to their content, they're all just some fun guys making up for gaps in the average war history curriculum.

Nice, open-minded reaction. 2024 is the band's 25th anniversary. They stay so true to history they hire historians when they can't get the details they need. They also have a Sabaton History Channel with more detail than can be put into their songs. They are about telling and keeping history alive with just the actual facts with no judgement. They don't express their personal feelings

Welcome to the wonderful world of our Swedish History Metal masters, Sabaton. Sabaton is a Swedish metal band that write all songs about historical war events or historical persons in war history. They do NOT take side, they do really research all events, which You can discover on their History channel here on KZbin, they just tell the story as it happened. They are hugh history buffs. Fun fact is that the drummer in Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl, is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish.

War knows no nation. Sabaton here isn't promoting politics in any regard. They're honoring the men that gave their lives for the nations that sent them to war, no matter their side or stake in it. Sabaton is what I consider, an “anthemic power metal” band. They simply use music to educate their listeners about military history whether it be about an individual, a group of individuals or an entire conflict. As far as why did they write this song about the “bad guy?” Think of it this way, did your history teacher only teach you about the good guys? Or were you taught all of history, good and bad?? There’s no politics in their music, simply history.

Great reaction! Here's the condensed version on the fate of the German battleship "Bismarck". Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation that lasted 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung/Rhine exercise. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen [say oygen], was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle, HMS Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits by Prince of Wales to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France for repairs, Bismarck was attacked by fifteen Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was engaged by two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, and sustained incapacitating damage and heavy loss of life. The ship was scuttled to prevent her being boarded by the British, and to allow the ship to be abandoned so as to limit further casualties. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions.

Sabaton is military history themed metal (some say they're power metal) Small gems in this video: -The radio at the beginning is about the beginning of the hunt for Bismarck. The Bismarck sunk the Hood (England's flagship) in one lucky shot, with almost no survivors. -The ship name in the stencil (Primo Victoria) was the first hit album (the one earlier was very different) -The old man at the beginning was supposed to be the kid that was saved at the end of the video The video tried to follow what actually happened. Sabaton has songs about military history. They typically write about the actual people who fought, not about the politicians who sent them. In fact the songs No Bullets Fly and Hearts of Gold are about Germans in WWII who did what they thought was right (and could have gotten shot for it). The Last Battle is about the "strangest battle" of WWII, where Americans & Germans fought against the SS. War is fought by people not governments. Tips when watching Sabaton: #1- Always turn on subtitles watching the first time! Immense amount of history/info in the lyrics. Expect a banger of a song. Watch again after reading the history of the song to catch more references you missed. (They have a channel called Sabaton History where they to a 15-20 minute episode about some of the history behind it, and some of why/how the song was made) For this one, there are literally hours of videos here on KZbin about the hunt for the Bismarck and why it was so important to WWII. If it wasn't sunk on its first mission, Germany might have been able to prevent the US from doing as much as it did in Europe. Defeating one took 2 out of the war.

The way I view something like this, is that it brings to life in music a historical event. The event,, whatever it was, happened, ignoring it does not change that. I do not believe, from what I have heard of Sabaton, that they glorify any aspect of the war events they bring to music, nor do they make geo-political statements of the events they sing about. They simply tell a story. Whatever the rights or wrongs of any given war, there will be bravery and sacrifice on both sides amongst men and women who did not start the war or ask that it be started, and most would not wish to be part of it, they are often all victims of circumstance. Sabaton is a really cool band imho, and I love what they do.

Sabaton is a Swedish metal band that write music about historical events from all sides. It’s to remember history and its importance through the medium of music. Although this song is about a German Battleship, that was commissioned and served during WW2 under the Nazi regime, the Bismarck battle ship was a beast of engineering and fire power. The history behind this ship is simple in its explanation… if the British didn’t sink this ship after it blew HMS Hood out the water, it would have choked the supply lines from America to the UK - crippling the British forces. It is important to remember that every battle has 2 sides. Not every German was a Nazi. The sailors aboard the Bismarck were carrying out their orders and even in the face of defeat with their mighty ship crippled and taking on water, they fought to the bitter end while the British cruisers hammered them with artillery and torpedos. Sabaton wrote the song from the German perspective to highlight this turning point in WW2. They also have a song called ‘no bullets fly’ which is about a German pilot who was ordered to shoot down an American B17 bomber. When he caught up to the bomber he realised the plane was a week from anti aircraft fire. He escorted the American plane into safe airspace, disobeying his ordered, risked court martial - which would have ended in being executed and also risked being shot down by the allied forces. War is not black and white. It takes a brave person to fight for their country and Sabaton aims to make sure the sacrifices of those brave souls from all creeds do not go forgotten. 😊 I recommend reacting to ‘82nd All The Way’ The song is about Alvin York and his heroic act of bravery in the face of danger.

A sabaton is a part of full plate armour. It covers the foot. Primo Victoria is another Sabaton song and is the reason every Sabaton fan will always remember the date for D-Day. The crew scuttled the ship because the rudder was damaged by a lucky torpedo hit. Even with all the firepower thrown at it, the Allies couldn't sink the Bismarck. The crew scuttled the ship to keep its secrets out of Allied hands because of the advancements in its design. Sabaton has like 10 studio albums and they are all songs about historical events and people. They are power metal but with a bias towards history and education so that we don't forget the names and exploits of those who died.

Sabaton writes songs about military history but without any sort of political angle or message. They're solely in the business of telling stories about people and countries. No one sane that I know of would suggest that Sabaton has some sort of political angle with their songs. This holds true for all their songs, Bismarck of course included. Now you could argue that supporting the military and focusing on that as part of a national identity is something that the political Right (or Conservatives if you prefer that term) tends to do more often but Sabaton has never espoused any sort of political preference. The singer, Joakim, has said in interviews after the Carolus Rex album dealing with the Swedish "Great Power Era", for which they were criticized for supporting nationalism by making that: "We just play heavy metal, we leave politics to others" or something to that effect. For them it's more about telling the stories of men and women who fought for their country and making sure people do not forget them and their bravery and sacrifice.

Glad to see you did this! I learned things from Sabaton that i'd missed in history class (from skipping class or not listening). Their "Night Witches" is amazing (and also true). Thx for this! Oh yeah, my parents knew about the Bismark, and my grandpa used to sing an old song about it (called "Sink the Bismark"). It was very familiar to him. Some of the survivor stories are great, there were a few rescued.

9:25 Sabaton sings about history, remarkable events and remarkable people in war. No politics, no agenda. They will note the bravery of the 12th division of the 3rd reich keeping the corridor for civilians opened to flea advancing Russians and about the Russians defense of Moscow They got an award for being the best educators in 2022 I believe When it comes how they pick topics. Some stories they just want to tell, some they get over their official websites where people can suggest topics for them I have been trying to suggest that they write about the Labinska republika/Albona republic (first armed resistance against faschism) but I'm just one dude among many

In world war 2 the Germans concentrated mainly on their Army, and didn’t have the resources to challenge the British navy which was the most powerful navy in Europe. However, they had 2 ideas to fight the British navy - build lots of submarines and build a few “super battleships” that would outrun any British battleship. But was powerful enough to smash anything that was as fast as it. The Germans had this idea that their new super modern battleship called the Bismarck would go out into ocean and sink all allied ships supplying Britain. At the time, the British had smaller ships called destroyers guarding cargo ships from America supplying Britain. These destroyers were specially designed to fight off submarines but would be no match against the Battleship Bismarck. The British worried about this because as an island nation, if they were cut off from supplies if their supply ships were sunk they would be screwed. so the British sent a force to go after the Bismarck. In the first battle, the Bismarck sunk a British battleship called the Hood, and 1400 British sailors died on the ship! The British were pissed that one of their battleships got sunk and so many men died so they made an all out effort to sink the Bismarck. In the video you see they had biplanes launch torpedoes at Bismarck. These planes were slow and obsolete even then, and the Bismarck had lots of anti aircraft guns so it took a lot of guts for the British pilots to go after the Bismarck. The British pilots managed to damage the engines of the Bismarck so it couldn’t outrun the British Battheships. In the last battle, a wounded Bismarck was surrounded by 2 British battleships and about a dozen other British ships and they pummeled the Bismark until it sunk. 2000 German sailors died, and about 100 survived and were captured. The scene in the end is one German sailor getting rescued. The music video is about a former German sailor returning to the place where the Bismarck was sunk holding a momento from the captain. The bismark is famous in world war 2 because it briefly panicked the British because it was a “super modern battleship” and they had to pull out all the stops to sink it, but even then it managed to sink a British battleship and kill a lot of people which shocked Britain at the time since they thought they had the best navy in the world.

Nice reaction to first-time hearing this great band! And great discussion, musing, about what the Bismark means to the band, and what the rebel flag means to people. (Lynard Skynard reactors have great discussions in their posts about this, that to many teenagers in the 60s and 70s, the flag meant they were rebelling.) Check out Sabaton live - Bismarck - Sept. 15, 2022 - Paramount Theatre, Seattle, WA, about 1:47. During concerts, usually Tommy and Chris gang up on the lead singer, Joakim, and stick guitar picks on his forehead. I've never seen musicians interact with their audience the way these guys do. I like this group because they open up discussion about historic events that we might not have learned in school. You'd probably also want to listen to Christmas Truce, Soldier of Heaven, Harlem Hell Fighters, and To Hell and Back (about WW2 Vet Audie Murphy). Yes, research (I use wikipedia and the Sabaton History Channel at first, then research more, often from info from the posts from their fans). One of their songs "Ghost Division" is about WW2 tank commander Erwin Rommel. It's truly a banger, and also about how a tank division (some say fueled by drugs such as speed), invaded France so fast that even the German high command and Hitler didn't know what they were doing. They usually open their shows with "Ghost Division" and end with "To Hell and Back." They are able to play "Ghost Division" to French audiences with no problem. That's their talent and magic: It's a way to bring up these topics, and inspire people to learn about that section of history, just as you did:) Enjoy every moment. Lots of people say that their songs make the listener feel as if they can do more in their lives.

Next you should do No Bullets Fly by Sabaton. Its a heart warming story. Sabaton as a band does not speak of the political side but the human side of the stories. In this song the sailors were merely fighting for their country and most did not know about the evil that was taking place at the time. This is their story and how they were hunted down on their first time at sea because they were considered such a threat that they could not be allowed to join the Atlantic fleet. The British sent their most powerful ships at this and even lost their flag ship in the first engagement. The captain of the boat that the band was playing on happens to be the grandson of the young sailor that you see throughout the video on the Bismarck that survived the destruction. This was the story of his grandfather and his time in the German Navy. You can have a open discussion at any point, only one side tries to shut down discussion. Politics will come up sadly but you need to stand strong against the hate that tries to shut down discussion. You seem like a person with a hunger to learn and that is willing to take part in discussions.

I know this is an older video but heres more info on the bismark- The Bismark was a german battleship in world war two it was the 2nd biggest battlship built in Europe only behind its sister ship. Its misson was to go out too the atlantic to sink cargo ships but was stopped by the british battle cruiser hms hood and the british battship prince of wales. In the battle the bismark sunk thr hms hood and damadged the prince of wales. The hood was the pride of the royal navy so the brits sent 65 ships to hunt the bismark down. The british aircraft carrier hms ark i believe sent torpedo bombers and damaged the bismarks steering leaving it dead in the water. The next day the bismark was attacked by British battleships and 2 battle cruisers it took over 100 minutes to sink it and it took multiple torpedo hits from a destroyer to finally put it out of commision and was scuttled by the crew leaving 115 survivers.

As a Briton in my sixties I was brought up with the second world war and because my father did his national service in the merchant navy after the war the battle of the Atlantic was very important to him and the hunt for the Bismarck was one of the great battles between the German and British navies. The Nazi component to this battle was small. The Nazis commissioned the ship and it was BIG and a threat to the British navy and the lifeline of supplies that the British needed So the British went after the Bismarck as soon as it left the Baltic. It lasted EIGHT days in the North Atlantic though it sank HMS Hood with 1415 hands aboard (only three survived) It was basically target no. 1 for the British and HMS Ark Royal an aircraft carrier launched torpedo planes which crippled the Bismarck She was rudderless and the German commander decided to scuttle her rather than allow her to fall into enemy hands. This was the start of the end for big battleships and the rise of the aircraft carriers in WW2. If you want to see the effect of Sabaton try their song "Uprising" about the Warsaw Uprising especially in front of a Polish audience: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ7Io42YebWLpNU There is also 40:1 about the resistance to the Nazis by the Poles in 1939 at the start of the European part of WW2 who were outnumbered 40:1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oorOl4Wwd9Osmrc They also do animated stories with the songs This is about the "Night Witches" Women Soviet Pilots in WW2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4qzoGuwedCpr5Y If you want to know how Sabaton construct their songs here is "If Sabaton wrote Barbie Girl" kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2OUf2qEbZ6UiZo and how he wrote it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3qalJuYn95nqas Enjoy.

The Bismarck became its own class of battleships. If it hadn't been hunted the way it was and if the captain wouldn't have been as hardheaded as he was this ship alone could have changed the war in the Atlantic. It is a damn legend, regardless of the ideology attached to it, which was seriously fucked of course.

Fun fact: An unknown crewman on the Bismarck owned a cat originally named Sam. After the sinking of the Bismarck, crewmen from HMS Cossack picked him up and named him Oscar after the international Water code for O being Man Overboard. The Cossack was later sunk and transferred to HMS Ark Royal; the same carrier that aided in the sinking of the Bismarck. After the Ark Royal sunk, Sam was rescued and sent back to shore in Ireland where he peacefully lived the rest of his life in a mariners museum. He even got the name Unsinkable Sam.

Bismarck was an absolute terror and was the most bad ass ship in the world at the time it hit the seas. In a short time it got a crazy reputation from sinking ships like the HMS Hood (british ship). Pretty much everyone was out hunting the Bismarck, and while it was hurt it was being persued. It hid in some beautiful fjords, but they eventually found ut and sunk it. Im not a historian by any means and could have some facts fuzzy, but i think the fjord it got sunk in was in norway? I know parts of it wash up in shore all the time where it was sunk.

No, it was the battleship Tirpitz that was sunk in a Norwegian fjord on November 12, 1944. Bismarck was sunk 350 miles west of Brest, France on May 27, 1941. She was trying to break out into the Atlantic but the British found out and sent everything they had at her. The battleships Hood and Prince of Wales intercepted her first on May 24, 1941, and one of Bismarck's shells penetrated Hood's aft magazine and the entire ship exploded, killing all but 3 of her 1418 crew members. The last two days of the battle involved the carrier Ark Royal, battleships King George V and Rodney, and the heavy cruisers Norfolk and Dorsetshire. One of the Ark Royal's torpedo planes hit Bismark on the stern and damaged her steering gear which jammed her rudders which only allowed her to steam in circles. This sealed her fate. After a fierce battle with the British ships, she was sunk. Only 114 of her 2200 men survived.

There is a lot to say about the story of Bismarck, without any glorification you still have to stand in awe of what that ship was meant to be, how it got in trouble and how many ships it took to finish it off. Some overkill was involved due to very angry British seeking revenge for Bismarck's sinking of the British battleship "Hood", i believe it was the flagship of the British Navi but am not 100% sure without looking it up, either way... every available ship in the region was called upon and they all went on the hunt for the damaged Bismarck that was trying to get to safe harbors up north. Story goes that when they found Bismarck and shot 1000's of rounds at it and it began to sink, that several ships ignored orders to stop their fire, they kept shooting till they ran out of ammo. The sinking of Bismarck did not go over very well with the angry moustache model from Germany, and this blow to the German Navi, resulted in more submarines and the following wolfpacks (if i recall correctly).
