Thanks a lot for the reaction. Witch Hunt is a hidden gem for me. I think Tarja was inclined towards dark and haunting music from the beginning. In her book, she writes that from the beginning of her solo career she felt frustrated, because everyone, including her label, expected her to continue the Nightwish sound. But she wanted to create a new sound. She wanted to include guitars, a symphony orchestra, and at the same time create music that would give the listener goosebumps, as if they were listening to the soundtrack of a horror film. And I think that can be seen on the My Winter Storm album. The Dark Christmas album was released in 2023 and here the sound is really beautifully horror. But Tarja released another Christmas album From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for Dark Christmas) already in 2017, which is also a collection of dark Christmas songs, although not as dark as Dark Christmas. I love when she makes dark music. Horror really suits her.

Yes, her label Universal Music back then, told her how to sing in ‚My Winter Storm‘. They wanted it like Nightwish..🙄 That’s the main reason why Tarja changed her label and went to earMusic. Now she is free to do whatever she wants.

@@HelMut3103 Yeah, it's crazy when other people want artists to copy someone else. But when they do, people say they don't have their own style and just copy their former bands, like Anette. The only reason I know why Tarja changed labels is the one she writes about: that she was looking for a label that would also release her non-rock albums. So thanks for adding the info. Only My Winter Storm and What Lies Beneath were actually released at Universal.

@@PetraPola Yes, her first two rock albums were released by Universal Germany. And she wrote in her book, she felt bad about she was not allowed to sing how she wants. But you are right, Tarja also wanted a label that would release her other projects.

Thank you! This is such a creepy song 🫣😄 Great composition, beautiful voice and orchestra. This is the darker side of Tarja's music... like actually darker sounding music. I am glad you catched that, this song is hint of what's to come... the dark Christmas albums (although I have no clue how much Tarja had the idea of that when she made this song). Wich Hunt and Tarja's other song Empty Dream, for me, are kinda in the same category: horror, creepy songs. Amazing songs! And thank you Petra for this suggestion!

For many years this song was a hidden gem for fans, as it only existed in the form of a live performance, for a Halloween concert in Finland, and was never released. It took forever until she actually released a studio version for it. Very atmospheric track, it's really cool.
