I'm ok, hope your well. By Dr's orders I have been quarantined since March. I've only left my house about 10x since then. I have a rare genetic disease that destroyed my liver & after a long, pain, life threatening 6yr battle I was blessed enough to get a liver transplant. I'm doing good, but have a very compromised immune system. I'm just grateful to be alive & appreciate every day so much more. Your great by the way & I love your vibe💜

Those are good songs of course, and were probably among the ones I preferred back when I was a teenager. This was just a handful of years after they were released, so they were still quite popular. However, as I've gotten older, even though I still consider them good songs, I prefer Willie's slower, deeper songs, with more the traditional "Willie" sound. Angel flying too close to the ground, Last thing I needed first thing this morning, Pancho & Lefty, Blue eyes crying in the rain, My heroes have always been cowboys. Anyway, you get the idea.

You Were Always On My Mind was not written by Elvis Presley nor Willie Nelson. I was written in collaboration by 3 people - Johnny Christopher, Mark James, and Wayne Carson Thompson. A fairly famous singer, B.J. Thomas was the first to record it, in 1970, but at that time, it was not released as a song for him. The first time it was released was by Brenda Lee, another singer who was fairly famous at that time. Elvis recorded and released the song that same year...his version becoming the most popular for many years to come. Willie Nelson's version is just as popular or even more so now. I'm 57 years old, and do recall when both versions were originally being played on the radio, but more often than not. I think people now associate the song with Willie Nelson more than with Elvis's version. Personally, I like Willie's version the best.

Neither Elvis nor Willie wrote this song, but Elvis was the first one to have a hit with it in 1972. Willie had a bigger hit with it in 1981. I grew up in the area where Willie is from, and he is very much a god to us. About 30 years ago, I was sitting in an old honky tonk outside my hometown of San Antonio, Texas, which was one of the bars where Willie started his career at. It was late at night and there were about 10 or 12 people in the bar. None other than Willie himself came walking in carrying that old guitar (which he calls Trigger). He asked us if it was OK that he played some songs for us. Needless to say, we all said YES!!! He played for about 30 minutes. It was the best 30 minutes of my life!! There are so many great songs of his (his career goes all the way back to the late 1950s, and he still releases one or two albums a year to this day...and I have everyone of them). My personal favorite songs of his are Night Life and Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground. Not only is he a fantastic songwriter and very unique singer, but he's also one of the most underrated guitar players in the world. You said you wanted to go down this rabbit hole...well, I'm warning you now, it's one of the deepest rabbit holes in music!

Howdy from Texas Y'all! Great Reaction to a great song. Willie is one of the best ever at being able to write a song that hits straight into your heart and soul. When Willie first went to Nashville to get his music career off the ground, he was very successful as a writer, but couldn't achieve commercial success while conforming to the rules the music industry set out for the chosen stars of the time. He finally got fed up with Nashville, went home to Texas, threw away the suit and tie, grew his hair out, did what gave him joy and found the success he was looking for. He has sooo many great songs, narrowing them down to just a few is next to impossible. Here is a partial list of some of my favorites. Seven Spanish Angels with Ray Charles (another rogue that did as he pleased), Ridin' on the City of New Orleans, Mamas Don't let Your Babies grow up to be Cowboys with Waylon Jennings ( Basically the founder of what came to be known as Outlaw Country), Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain, and Ghost Riders in the Sky and Highwayman with The Highwaymen ( Willie, Waylon, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson). The Willie Nelson rabbithole is very deep and intersects with so many other rabbitholes that you can spend untold hours, days, months and more exploring them all. Good hunting as you travel with Willie in the rabbithole. Also, Happy Holidays to you and Donovan. Y'all both keep up the awesome jobs both of you do. Love from Texas.

Pretty good for a man who is 89 years old. Very high mileage. But so darn good. My dear, remember one of the rules to country-western music. Sometimes they make us cry. Which is OK. A common and popular mistake is to state that Elvis recording of Always On My Mind was a cover of an original Brenda Lee country hit. In fact, Always On My Mind was written for Elvis Presley by Mark James (Suspicious Minds) and it was recorded by Elvis in March 1972, before anyone else. It happens that RCA had already sheduled songs from '71 to be released as the first two singles during the first half of 1972, and then in the summer, it was Burning Love, from new batch of songs of the March session, the first one to came out, and so, Always On My Mind by Elvis, happened to be released until November '72, by then Brenda Lee, who recorded the song after Elvis, had released her version achieving a country hit with it but failing the Hot 100.

according to wiki; *"Always On My Mind"* is a love song written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James, first released by Gwen McCrae (as "You Were Always on My Mind") in 1972. The song has been a crossover hit, charting in both the country and western and pop categories, and AllMusic lists over 300 recorded releases of the song in versions by dozens of performers. . Brenda Lee also released a version in 1972. While Lee's version stalled at number 45 on the US country chart in 1972, other performers reached the top 20 in the United States and elsewhere with their own versions: Elvis Presley in 1972; John Wesley Ryles in 1979; Willie Nelson's Grammy Award-winning version in 1982; and Pet Shop Boys in 1987.

If you are happy, I am thrilled! You may not talk crap about yourself. We are all human! Stop yourself from crying???? Love, you know this is Country-Western. Tears and emotions are part of the deal.... Willie has been performing since 1956. He is a national treasure in my book. PLUS he has written - or co-written 337 songs. AND he is on tour right NOW. Not bad for an 89 year old man. Willie is an epic entertainer. A legend!!!! You may want to check out "Whiskey River" and or Whiskey for my men and beer for our horses.. I think you will get a chuckle out of these songs.

This had to be middle 70's, you can tell because his guitar is still fairly new. You can always tell what decade by trigger, because Willie is timeless. I think the only time Nelson didn't look like he does today is when he was performing in the late 50's early 60's clean cut in a suit.
