Great to see you back! When you check the engine. See if that gray material in the oil sticks to a magnet. I spun a rod bearing that ate the crank journal 1/8 inch. The metal was like baby powder.

Haven't yet. I'm thinking to try and change the oil pump before the next race to rule that out as a possible issue.

That's one of the most frustrating parts about running the old school V8's hard - it seems like they never really seal well. This alone makes me want to put more modern engines in everything. Crankcase ventilation is important, but only goes so far. It seems like there should be an aftermarket head that's meant for a more modern style valve cover and gasket.

Great to see you back, love the road course videos! Notice you are running shorty headers, any particular reason? They typically give up a lot of power over long tubes.

No great reason I'm running the shorties. They came on the car and the custom cross member and rack make it impossible to fit an off the shelf mid or long tube. Would at a minimum have to redo 1 or possibly 2 tubes to fit long tubes. It's on the to do list down the road if the engine proves to be reliable. I'm still not 100% confident in the engine though.

ha ha ha. That's one of the beauties of running with VARA. No sound regs. I think more than half the cars are straight pipe no mufflers.

GoPro Hero 7 and 8 with built in GPS. Then using Race Render to extract and create the data overlay

You might need more cubes to out run that vette easily.

My favorite would be a aluminum block 4.125×3.300, 353ci, 950cfm Holley Ultra XP with a 8500rpm limiter as far as an experience goes, but a aluminum block 4.125x3.750, 401ci, with a 8000rpm limiter might be what it takes to win the race with some 315/30r18 and 335/30r18 tires(Nankang AR-1 For a street tire).

A well designed combination of parts would go a long ways. The current hodge podge of parts (engine and trans) just aren't ideal but still work okay.

I know my 86 gt has a ecentric type oil pump I’m not sure if that’s common ?
