Great video! Well done! I love to see that our sisters are starting to catch the saddle wave too. I will share with my daughter to inspire her. I love my saddle, and I agree with John Eberhart's sentiment that "tree stands are archaic". I do have to find a home for my LW Assault :( After a rough day at the office, I will climb a tree in the backyard, and hang in my saddle just to unwind in the off season. I know, I should get help, but I prefer a saddle over a shrink's couch ;^) Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work!

Allie, that was a really well done and informative video. I started bow hunting back in the 70's, when, as far as I know, the first portable tree stands were just coming out. I'd met Bill Wadsworth, the founder of the National Bowhunter Education Foundation (NBEF), became a bowhunter education Instructor, and he showed us a portable platform he had designed. I started making my own portable stands back then. I'm thinking that if you had just a slightly larger platform, and you attached your carabiner to the bridge webbing instead of the bridge line, you'd be basically doing what I had done for years with a "Swiss seat" anchoring me to the tree. With the slightly bigger platform it's easier to stand and rotate 270 degrees or lean out against your anchor and shoot around the tree. Set up like Sean Kabes suggested, be patient, and you'll get the shot you want. As a, shall we say, more "mature" hunter now, I prefer ladder stands to climbers, but if I'm where I can hang my stand and leave it for the season (locked to the tree), I still have a couple of Lone Wolfs I really like. I like Wild Edge's Steppladder steps over sticks, but, hey, that's just me. Hunt safely, keep up the funtastic attitude, and keep tryin' new things. Maybe a Bushman Bows take-down longbow, for instance. Lotta great equipment and great folks out there. Enjoy!

When using the saddle you set up with the tree in between you and the expected travel of the deer and ideally you want the deer travel just off the left side of the tree if your right handed so you can stand with the tree between not pushed away from it and the tree covers the motion of the draw.

Good job! Yeah first time or so can feel a bit strange, but will become second nature very quickly. Practicing in the tree at low height is a great idea. As you could tell, saddle comfort is a personal thing. I personally wear mine several inches lower and use the micro adjusters available through Tethrd to cinch the leg straps to evenly distribute my weight from top webbing, mesh saddle, and lower webbing. Also, on the weak side shot while using a platform, it can be helpful to hook your right leg around the tree. Keep it up!

When shooting the 6 o’clock, stand up and allow the bridge to be in front of your right shoulder (kind of like a hug). Then you lean into it. That keeps you secure and gets you a little further from the tree.

I’ve used a “Tree Saddle” and got a buck with a long bow! I could rest my bow arm over the strap as a deer approached and this made holding the bow for an extended time easier. I use bolts to climb a tree and a little pocket hand drill. Also my feet would rest on 3 bolts when sitting in The saddle. Very minimal equipment to haul around. After using a specific tree I could climb down and remove the bolts then hide the bolts in a plastic bag near the tree and eliminate carrying them into the woods.😁

The biggest advantage to this that I see for me at least is that there's no limit to how high you can go. Where is with traditional tree stands they only make them so high in order to go higher you would have to build a custom one which takes quite a bit of effort

I have the Tethrd saddle and Predator Platform. I also have an Aero Hunter Kestrel saddle and a Wild Edge Perch platform. The Kestrel saddle is slightly heavier and much more comfortable IMO. Hopefully you can get your hands on one of those to try out. Both are great saddles. Light weight climbing systems are the next piece of the puzzle. We need to see you taking shots above 20 feet in a saddle. Keep practicing and you will never look back.

All day! You can sit, adjust and lean away, there are add on backrests... You can put your head on the bridge and fall asleep. You can let go completely and hang free and not fall out. Climb up is the only dangerous part.

As a rock climber this seems intriguing. It's very similar gear and technique to ascending ropes. One slight negative, dedicated climbing harnesses like those made by black diamond, are much more comfortable than that barebones style harness. But they're more expensive. But it would be 10x times more comfortable to hang on a dedicated climbing harness for hours.

I wondered about that product I see it advertised years ago and tree climbing kickers but it could be a problem with the small platform and blood circulation in the legs without it my Treelounge is heavy but it gave me 360° shooting and comfort and for long walks the lightest I found is a Summit Viper Elite with a mesh seat to see climbing down at 17lbs

Remember the angle of the rope is throwing constant weight on your feet as you are holding yourself out away from the tree. Also the further out from perpendicular your body is it strains different muscles. It is also hard on circulation which can assist in making you cold or legs numb. Your feet will get sore after a while without proper shoes

I'm betting that 6 o'clock shot would be much less awkward if you weren't shooting on a flat plane like you were. Shooting at a downward angle would have smoothed out your process. Other thought, the guys from tetherd have an interesing way to do the 6 o'clock shot, put your draw arm through the gap between the tree and your tie on rope so the rope is across your chest and you can lean into the rope. The rope will rest in the crease of your shoulder where a sling backpack would. You'd need the tree line a bit higher and it would take practice but it works well.

next time when trying to shoot 6 o'clock try running your draw arm under the tether and stand up you will feel more secure with it resting over your shoulder kind of like a seat belt but doesnt get in your way of drawing back your bow for the shot

I hunted out of a saddle many years ago. It's OK for some situations but I didn't like the feeling of being sucked into the tree and having sore knees. For long periods in the tree, I prefer a regular stand.

i'm very confused, I have heard of tree saddles and known they been around for many years, but i'm confused on the platform, since your climbing, how the heck do you reach the platform and move it up as you're climbing the tree? do you go Mission Impossible style, turn and flip upside down and loosen the platform strap in order to move it up, tighten the platform strap and repeat that process till you get to where you want to be? Lol, sounds scary when you first arrive at your tree at 5am in the pitch black

Allie, slide the saddle up under your butt more and you will be more comfortable and secure! It takes some practice to be able to move around the tree with confidence but once you get it there's no going back! I've been saddle hunting since 2014 and it's changed the game completely for me!

My grandma told me about how her father made phone calls. He basically did it green acres style. He had boots with spikes that allowed him to climb the telephone pole. This was before 1925. That wouldn’t work today.

I definitely can see the advantages. My question remains on comfort and possibly even muscle fatigue after 4, 5, 6 or longer hours. My thinking is if I know I'm only hitting a quick afternoon stand, that system might be superior to a tree stand. But if it rut time, I got good weather (for deer which usually means cold), I don't like coming out of the woods and can see muscle fatigue setting in which would create cramps.... Hhhmmmm.... Do like it in theory though.

Get yourself an arborist saddle and 150 foot of rope, get the rope in a high branch and ascend, perfect setup. All you would need is a tag line off of the back so you didn't keep spinning.

There are several ways to climb up a tree. Climbing sticks which their are several types and ways to utilize them or screw in steps. Their is one system that has my interest and that is the Yates big wall ladder.

I just got a saddle set up this spring. If you want a run and gun set up it's the way to go in my opinion. I don't think you showed some of the benefits very well but that's to be expected since it was the first time being up in a tree with the system. If you check out G2 Outdoors on KZbin and also check out the Saddlehunter.com forum and FB group you'd be able to be much more efficient in the saddle. Also just takes practice like anything else in life.

I would use 1 in a tree that isn't like a telephone pole where I can use a large diameter branch instead of a platform. There is strap on device that acts as a step that will allow u 2 get up in the tree without pegs or sticks which is also a great stealth advantage...as long as u r an athlete.

Wild Edge Stepp Ladder, 5 of them will get u up plenty high & the pouch with all 5 only weighs 5 lbs. Since u have your strap around the tree it leaves u both hands free 2 put the straps around & fasten. Gets u up there quick & safe.

In the late 80s, or early 90s, there were a couple similar designs. One was called "Tree Sling" and the other (????). I found the design hard on the knees and it required a ####### lot more practice shooting because it was nothing like standing on terra firma and flinging 'em.

Just found your videos, they are great. Hunting here in Australia is a little bit different, our gun laws are very strict. I really like this harness and your tips were great. One thing mate, don't throw carabeeners onto the ground. They are prone to hairline cracks. Not good for your health if you are at height. Love your work matey. 👍👍

I don’t think a single girth hitch is enough of an anchor. Tethered needs to relook at that because if that bite loosens you could take a pretty substantial fall. Just my two cents.

I felt the same way when practicing so I locked in the bridge at the length I wanted so it’s not adjustable and I also left my lineman’s belt on just loosened. In the future I will do a safety block tie in to my extra rope instead of the lineman’s so I can move better but have two lines just in case one has give for some reason. I’m inexperienced so I don’t trust myself without two points of contacts both tight.
