Allie, Several questions? Number one, how long does it take to do a set-up? Number two, what is the advantage of saddles versus a tree stand? Number three, are you limited by the tree you want to climb????? Number four, since you are hunting back east ( ie, I'm here in Oregon) how high up do you go? Thanks Allie and as always please stay safe! Great video
@OutdoorsAllie Жыл бұрын
It usually take me about 10-15 minutes to set up. The advantages are countless, shootability, hideability, mobility, etc. I am not limited by the tree I can climb, but I prefer about a basketball size diameter with few low hanging limbs. I usually end up about 16 feet high depending on the situation. Thanks for watching!

Excellent and simple breakdown of the equipment. It can be very overwhelming for someone looking into this system. If someone doesn’t want to spend the money for a Ropeman, look up the Distel hitch with a tender. Uses the same rope as the Prussik but is easy to adjust one handed.

If u want 2 be more versatile & not be lugging gear everywhere the saddle is ideal. I pull a bike cart with my fat-tire bike & it is nice when I have less gear 2 pull on the cart since I have no gear on my body when biking these long distances.

Get a web strap 1 or 2 inches wide with loops on each end that is adjustable in length. Hook a second carabiner to the one you have on your tether. Run the web strap around your back & connect each end to the second carabiner. Adjust to your comfort. Really helps with back support! You have it as an extra. I would put it as a must.

Good intro video into the basics of saddle hunting. One thing though, there are some pretty strong opinions arguing against the use of a Ropeman ascender on your tether. For the linesman belt fine, but a lot of very experienced climbers do not feel it is safe to use the Ropeman on your tether in place of a knot (prusic or otherwise).
@OutdoorsAllie4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Why?
@stephenhubchen49624 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorsAllie There are strong opinions both ways but generally the "against" crowd feel the ropeman is capable of damaging you rope in certain situations. This video can explain the cons better than I. Keep in mind the guy has about 30 years as a arborist climber. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mV7RlZKspLKheLs

I looking at purchasing a saddle I looked at both of the ones you mentioned and according to their specs they are to big for me,. I am 5'2" 110lbs with a 25 in waist. Do you know of any one that makes a smaller saddle for smaller people?

Hey Allie, just watched your gear video. I normally hunt with a climbing stand on state property and ladder stands or hang ons, on private. But I am interested in saddle hunting. Is there a saddle hunting package, that you know of, that includes all the gear needed? Thanks for the video btw, very informative. Happy hunting!

I have purposely setup on the back side of a tree 2 keep it between me & from the direction. However saddle hunting gives u this advantage plus u don't have 2 stand the whole time on your sit. The ability 2 swing 2 the left or right is a big bonus. When waiting in ambush u need as much of that 360 degree mobility that u can get. Great video, not too long but u covered all the basics.
