Being half Dutch (Ajax) & American (DC United) I love how football supporter culture has been progressing in the US, it makes it so much more fun visiting games (also off the pitch) during the months of the year that Im in the US. Will it ever be the same as in Europe, probably not but that' s ok. I never even thought it would come this far, so its exciting to see how it develops and more and more local customs are mixed in. So the US just like the other continents will have their own signature style within football support culture.

In from El Salvador but I live in LA and the ultras here are hispanics/latinos so is a lot more similar sometimes they even sneak flairs too I go to see the LAFC team their great however is not my passion club. I only support the city I was born in which is FC Fas from Santa Ana El Salvador and my father raised me a Barça fan as well .The ultras in El salvador used to be wild most of them where real gang but now is a lot better and women can go see the games but Barça without Boixos Nois is like American chants now.😊

I am a season ticket holder at Chelsea, I've been a fan since 9 and for 45 years. It is nice to see the atmospheres in the US seems to be improving, good job. The atmospheres depicted here though are typically pre game rituals or orchestrated. The old school snobbery in me isnt so much of a fan of this kind of atmosphere but it is impressive. I have travelled with Chelsea from Moscow to Charlotte N.C., Red Bull Arena. to Israel, Norway to Greece and most points in between and have been privileged to witness displays like this all over, but i prefer the more spontaneous support personally. I don’t like being told when to sing or support by someone banging a drum or yelling through a 🎤. If it gets people interested though, it cant be bad. Fyi i also follow the NFL, I have been a Raiders fan for 40 years, most of my family live in the states, my mum, sister and brother all livr in Wisconsin. I have visited the us many times over the last 39 years and witnessed the growth of our foitball there in that period does have the potential to become a force in world football.

As a teenager I ran into our home fans and wiped out about 5 of those stupid fanatics. This was a very dangerous situation, it looked bad. They were about 5 feet from the line I hit at full speed and I needed about 15 feet to brake. The result was people lying on the ground, spilled beers, overturned chairs. When I turned around, I could also see fear on the opponents' side that this could be a huge problem. Everyone was waiting to see if I would get up and immediately a few people ran to me. After another similar situation, I couldn't even speak for 10 minutes - the shock took my breath away. After several such incidents, they started to protect us more. Then it was also forbidden that the teenagers could play two matches in a row - in their category and then for the same club as adults - too many injuries.

The main difference between European fans and US fans imo, is that football is INCREDIBLY ingrained into our culture and society. And with "our" I mean basically all of europe. It's societal, it's cultural, it's political and everything else. It's less entertainment, and more a sort of brotherhood. It's honestly hard to explain. It's pure passion. My uncle is a good example. He is 68 years old and has been IN the stadium for EVERY single game of his club since he was 9. Be it a home game, or an away game. He lives and breathes football, and has done so since childhood. This is way past "being a fan".

20:00 - depends on where you book your seats. Most stadiums have special seperated areas for the hard core hooligan fans, each for home and guest teams. Don't go there with your kids, even though, if you're with their team, you'll probably be fine, but still, you don't spend your vacation in a war zone, either, so just stay away from there. Other places within the stadium are totally fine though to bring your whole family from kids to grandparents.

One major difference in the sports culture is that, unlike in the US, Team Owners can't just up and move a team to another market. Teams are mostly community owned, and have been around in many cases for over 100 years (several teams even from the 1800s). People are often born to a team within their family, where support for the same team goes back generations.

In America you go to a sports game for entertainment and of course you support your team. But in Europe your team is part of your identity, its almost even religion.. and it brings love and hate. And should not be underestimated.

My kids ( 6 and 8 ) loves the flares and smoke. We usually stand in the corner right next to where the pyro is getting set off
