David Coverdale was lead singer of Deep Purple for only 3 years, from '73-'76. He formed Whitesnake after that. A majority of Deep Purple's music has Ian Gillian on vocals. Tawny Kitaen was David's g/f at the time, they were married for a couple years. She passed away 3 years ago at age 59.

The lead singer, David Coverdale was actually married to the woman dancing and flipping over the cars. Her name is Tawny Kitaen who was married to me lead singer during this time and she was in multiple videos of band. This song and the song "STILL OF THE NIGHT". They divorced a few years later and she died a few years back from health issues this stemmed from past drug use. The videos made her one I the most popular woman during these years of the band. David Coverdale was the lead singer of DEEP PURPLE before he started WHITE SNAKE.

You should check out the original from the 1982 album Saints & Sinners. Both Here I Go Again and Crying In The Rain from the 1987 Whitesnake album was actually re-recordings that the record company wanted. The two original versions was more bluesy. Back when Jon Lord and Ian Paice was still in the band. Mick Moody and Bernie Marsden RIP on guitars and Neil Murray on bass. When recording the 1987 version guitarist John Sykes didn't want to do Here I Go Again so it was recorded by Adrian Vandenburgh. Check out earlier Whitesnake from their 1979 album Love Hunter. The song Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues are a great one.

Two of my favorite drummers associated with with the same song doesn’t get much better Ainsley Dunbar is just an incredible drummer who just drives a band but professional enough to play for the song and Tommy Aldridge has insane footwork I saw Tommy do a drum solo barehanded. Coverdale is a great live performer. In 1993 David Coverdale teamed up with Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, and they put out a one time album called "Coverdale and Page", which in my opinion was one of the best rock albums of the 90s. Believe it or not, Whitesnake recorded no less than THREE versions of "Here I go again". The original one was released in 1982 and had some success in Europe and Japan - but NOT in the US, where Whitesnake had failed miserably to make an impression and where the album in question, "Saints and sinners", wasn't even officially released. However, from 1984 Whitesnake finally started to get some traction in the US, at which point their record company thought this song was due for a second try. Enter this version, released in 1987. Whitesnake purists prefer the original version, which is hard blues rock as opposed to hair metal. (I for one prefer the original version too, but I love all three.) Someone who actually loved this version here, believe it or not, was Bernie Marsden, the former Whitesnake guitarist who wrote the original song with David Coverdale and sadly passed away last year. Bizarrely, the Whitesnake who toured for the "1987" album and appear in this video is not the same band who plays on the album. Except for Adrian Vandenberg (of Vandenberg fame), the blonde guitarist, who plays on this one song. The rest of the band on the album were bassist Neil Murray - the only one besides David Coverdale to appear on every Whitesnake album up until that point, later to play with Black Sabbath and Brian May (Queen) - guitarist John Sykes (ex-Thin Lizzy) and drummer Aynsley Dunbar (ex-Journey, Frank Zappa). They were all fired after the album recording and replaced by Vandenberg, second guitarist Vivian Campbell (ex-Dio, with Def Leppard since 1992), bassist Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, ex-Ozzy Osbourne) and drummer Tommy Aldridge (ex-Black Oak Arkansas, Ozzy Osbourne). The keyboards you hear in this version are performed by the legendary Don Airey - a man who has played with EVERYONE who is anyone in hard rock. He is since 2001 a member of Deep Purple, replacing the late great Jon Lord who, amazingly, was also a member of Whitesnake at the time of the original "Here I go again". What about the third version, you ask? Well, that one was recorded parallel to this version here by yet another lineup. More specifically Coverdale, guitarist Dann Huff (a session pro who would achieve cult status in his own right here in Sweden as the frontman of the superlative Giant), and Heart's then rhythm section Mark Andes (bass) and Denny Carmassi (drums). The thing was, the record company was certain that "Here I go again" was a potential hit, but believed the album version was too metallic for mainstream tastes. So this third version is outright radio rock poppy. As it turned out, the album version - to repeat, the one in this video - was released as a single after all and became an absolutely astounding success, becoming a #1 US hit. So the third version never made it to a studio album, sank into obscurity and these days requires a little effort to locate.
@dave300764 ай бұрын
Yes they did! I'm glad someone else mentioned it. The first version was several years before this, it was the more bluesy sound. When they did this, they had the guitar heavy version and the keyboard heavy version (the third version you mention, absolutely meant to be more mainstream radio friendly)

David Coverdale formed Whitesnake in 1978 after the breakup of his version of Deep Purple in 1976... (David Coverdale was the singer on the 1974 song 'Burn' by Deep Purple) In 2015, Whitesnake paid tribute to late Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord by re-recording some of Coverdale's Deep Purple songs and releasing them as 'The Purple album'... Initially, the singer released 2 solo albums - "Whitesnake" (1977) and "Northwinds" (1978)... before the "Snakebite" EP as David Coverdale's Whitesnake in '78 ... The first album as Whitesnake was 'Trouble' in 1978... followed by 'Lovehunter' in 1979 ... However, the new band was slow to take off w/ the albums available in Europe and Japan only... Whitesnake released a remarkable live album in 1980 - "Live in the heart of the city"... Deep Purple's Jon Lord (keyboards) and Ian Paice (drums) played in Whitesnake for a few years before Deep Purple reunited in 1984 w/ singer Ian Gillan. Whitesnake built a fanbase by the early 80's w/ albums like "Ready an' willing" (1980)... "Come an' get it" (1981)... 'Saints and sinners' (1982)... and were playing huge shows in Europe and Japan but no fanfare in America... Finally, Geffen Records signed Whitesnake for the album 'Slide it in' (1984) to be released in N. America and the song "Love ain't no stranger" became a radio hit. In 1987, Whitesnake re-recorded some of their biggest songs for their self-titled album... 'Here I go again' was originally recorded for the 'Saints and Sinners' album in 1982 but was re-recorded w/ John Sykes (guitar), Neil Murray (bass) and Aynsley Dunbar (drums) ... David Coverdale decided to fire the band and began touring w/ a new Whitesnake line-up in '87 w/ guitarists Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Tommy Aldridge. For the music video 'Still of the night' by Whitesnake in '87, David Coverdale met actress/ model Tawny Kitaen and featured her in 2 more videos - 'Is this love'... and 'Here I go again'... Coverdale and Kitaen got married after that. The 'Whitesnake' album was a huge success, selling 8x platinum in the US alone... After the tour, guitarist Vivian Campbell quit the band... He eventually joined Def Leppard in 1992 after the death of their original guitarist Steve Clark. In 1989, guitarist Adrian Vandenberg co-wrote the next Whitesnake album 'Slip of the tongue'... but an injury to his hand led to him being substituted on the album by legendary guitarist Steve Vai, who also did the tour as the album sold platinum in the US. Unfortunately, David Coverdale and wife Tawny Kitaen split up in 1991 and Coverdale also disbanded Whitesnake... He recorded the 'Coverdale. Page' album in 1993 w/ former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. He did record another Whitesnake album 'Restless heart' in 1997... but it sold poorly... David Coverdale's solo album 'Into the light' in 2000 also sold poorly. In 2003, Coverdale finally reformed Whitesnake w/ a new line-up and began touring actively again... They released the album 'Good to be bad' in 2008 and Whitesnake was successful on tour once again... It was followed up by the album 'Forevermore' (2011) and 'Flesh & blood' (2019)
