Make Loco Moco! Its very popular in Hawaii and super easy to make. You need only 4 or 5 basic ingredients: ground beef, rice, Brown gravy and eggs, plus a few simple seasonings. You can add onions and mushrooms if you like but its optional.

I grew up eating hot apple pie with cold wedges of Cheddar Cheese. Kind of like Carol's pears and cheese. The cold bite of the Cheddar cleanse your palate. Once the pie is cold we don't eat it with cheese. I grew up in Victoria Texas, most don't eat it with cheese but both my sets of grandparents were German and maybe that is why because it was something they both did!!!! Love yall!!!!

By the way, Recky and Carol this dish would traditionally have been cooked in an imu. An imu is a pit oven. A hole is dug, filed with wood, topped with special stones; then the wood is ignited and is allowed to burn down to coals. The coals and hot stones are spread out to line the pit and covered with banana and li leaves. The pig or other meat is placed in the pit and covered with li and banana leaves. Then the whole thing is covered with earth. The pig cooks for many hours. Once cooked, the meat is shredded. The whole family gathers to feast on the pork, poi, luau, and other treats. The slow cooker allows this dish to be scaled down and produced without knowing how to build and use an imu.

Pie crust is an art 🥧 and I will never create a true masterpiece😂. I was taught the same trick as Carol, put ball of dough between 2 pieces of parchment, press down(I like to use a small cutting board for this), flip over, then roll outward from the middle, pull all the way back toward self ,turn crust after each pass until you get the thickness you want. Make 4 small slits near the center or put in a pie bird for venting once on pie. Keep consistent pressure on the rolling pin, that way it's rolling out evenly. If you get splits you can add a drop of water and press dough together to mend. Hope this works for you, if you try. ❤❤

I'm originally from Hawaii and one dish I suggest trying is LauLau, which consists of pork wrapped in taro leaves. However, getting taro leaves can be tough, and the preparation process may be time-consuming. A good alternative is the well-known Loco Moco, a popular plate lunch option in Hawaii. It features a base of steaming rice, a homemade hamburger patty, eggs (cooked to your liking), all covered in savory brown gravy and topped with caramelized onions if desired. And if you feel like doing a popular dessert, some options are butter mochi, pumpkin crunch or chocolate haupia pie(haupia is a coconut based dessert).
