I actually just got elden ring and I'm about to start playing. I'm really terrible at the souls games, but I was talking to trying elden ring because it's so open.

Do not worry, I am not particularly good either - the game gives you enough opportunity to level up: no auto win still but the amount of punishment you can take and damage you can put out does make a notable difference. If you do not want to get in blind I could recommend to try and inform yourself about possible builds fitting your play stile and how to work towards them efficiently - that worked for me. If you would enjoy thoroughly exploring this world (and defeating the enemies on the way) you might not even need really dedicated grinding runs just to put some bosses on hold for a while until you come back beefed up ;) As for Elden Ring: I thought the highlight would be the different boss fights but honestly: for me it is the exploration of this dangerous but beautiful, sometimes eerie world and the atmosphere of it. Have fun and enjoy the journey!

@BragiTales I'm excited to get into it the souls games are games that I've heard people talk about for years and I've always wanted to experience them for myself. Like I've probably listen to several dozens of hours of podcasts about the souls games rather than playing them.

Haha, that is a similar story to mine. I mostly do not play for a challenge, quite the contrary: I ofter toggle easy mode if there is one. Mostly I would be interested into a difficult game despite and not because of it. But some gameplay systems are just intriguing to me. I always wanted to try out a "Souls"-Game but never 100% felt that "this is the one" - enjoyed watching PSAccess, especially their ,,A noob playing Bloodborne" series despite that one being my least favorite entry^^ and then Elden Ring came around. I decided to want to make the most of it and wait for a definitive edition. However, ended up buying base game only anyway because it turned out Shadow of the Erdtree would not be on disc, even on the definitive edition. Another example of a challenging game that clicked for me was Monster Hunter. I normally dislike grinding loops but was always intrigued by it but always put off by some nucance , almost purchased Tri for the Wii, then World made the cut for me with its seemless areas and small quality of life changes. Went in thinking I might not play that far but ended up buying the expansion and making it my most played RPG for its gameplay loop being so incredibly satisfyingly fine tuned :D I am looking forwards to Wilds again - plan is to wait for complete edition this time but not sure whether the craving might catch me earlier :D - Do you have any other experience with difficult games?
