This is my first time trying Durian in Thailand at the Bangkok Or Tor Kor premium food market. I’ve been putting off trying, or even smelling, Durian fruit since I arrived in Thailand 2 months ago. I wanted to capture the experience on camera, so here we go. Will I hate it? Will I love it? What is Or Tor Kor premium fruit market? Or Tor Kok is hidden gem of a fresh fruit market located across the street from the world famous Chatuchak market. Join me for more street food and another little known market tour here in Bangkok, Thailand. Let's eat!
I recently moved to Thailand and am begining to roam the country while documenting my travels here on KZbin. Join me for my assorted adventures in the many different regions of Thailand.

Durian is like cheese in western food. The taste and smell will differ depending on the species and place of manufacture. For those who have never tried durian Try eating Mon Thong varieties that are not too ripe. The texture is not messy, it doesn't have a strong smell. Alternatively, try the durian crisps that look like potato chips but taste great.

I'm glad you like durian. it didn't smell bad 'cause it was not fully ripe. unlike malaysian, thai like to have durian this way (many thai even prefer a crunchy outside and soft inside texture). when it's really ripe, the smell and taste are much stronger with bitter taste. the texture also becomes very sloppy. please try different varieties (you had montong) since each has its own taste and you may even like it more.

Dear Serg, if you want better quality beef you can go to VILLA SUPERMARKET. I am a beef lover. It is a bit difficult to find beef in Thailand because many Thais are “Chinese Buddhism” worshippers who don’t eat meat to purify their souls (good karma or something). I say Chinese Buddhism because the authentic Buddhism doesn’t deny beef. Villa supermarket beef has tender and sweeter quality than any supermarkets.

That thick brown sauce was supposed to be poured (by the vendor as it's the default sauce) onto all the red pork and crispy pork. The black sauce is considered as dipping one. Although it's a dipping sauce, but here we don't dip pork pieces into it. Instead we slightly pour it on top of that thick brown sauce on all those pork slices. :) Really happy that you like durian.

Yeah, I asked them not to pour the sauce on top that’s why he gave it to me on the side. I’m trying to minimize some of the sauces in my foods. Everything was delicious. I would highly recommend this market

The first menu you eat It's red pork rice. and crispy pork rice In fact, for gravy you have to pour it over rice and mix it together. The sauce is made from the water used to marinate the red pork, which is boiled and cooked with flour to thicken it. And if it tastes too sweet The shop has a black sauce made from dark soy sauce, chili and vinegar. The black sauce has chili but not spicy at all because it's pickled chili. It will be sour, making this menu less sweet. and keep it from drying out. You're very lucky to try the perfectly ripe durian. Most foreigners who try durians for the first time and then come across durians that overripe, it becomes so messy and stinky that they hate it. Really, durian that is too overripe, Thai people like to use it as a dessert. And I want you to try to visit the largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Thailand, located in Rangsit, Bangkok. The market is called Si Mum Muang Market and Talad Tai. It is the largest fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Thailand. It is an exporter of fruits and vegetables for sale all over the country. From the farm to these two markets And from these two markets, they are sent to markets and fruit and vegetable shops across the country. You will find a warehouse that separates the products into categories. such as banana warehouses, watermelon warehouses, durian warehouses, and you can buy them at very cheap prices. Especially bought on a farmer's car that brought vegetables from the farm to sell.😁😁🙏🙏

Usually when people said they really hate durian is because they get a very ripe one. Not every Thai people could eat that in fact we use the very ripe one to make some sweet. The one you got in the video look really fantastic and high quality. you're lucky that you got a perfect piece of durian for your 1st try or else you would hate it.

@@LifewithSerg The horrible smell only comes if you leave it inside the car or the house and come back. Lol. It really fills a room :). Also, many people die every year here from drinking hard alcohol while eating durian. I guess the two don’t mix, just FYI. Quite a few Thai people have told me that. I recommend if you have a truck, keep the durian in the back. Or triple bag it if it’s in the refrigerator. But of course the best thing, just eat it right away. Super delicious. MICKEY STOTCH, a Thailand KZbinr, said vendors at food markets are very uncomfortable when they see a foreigner with a video camera filming them. He said the best way to break the ice with the vendors is to interact with them, purchase from them and carry food bags from your purchases from the food market or night market. This shows the vendors that you're there to buy, not to judge them.

From how your durian looks and for that price, I think you bought a good durian variety, either Mon Thong or Karn Yao, and its not too overriped These are good ones that are less smelly and tasty 👍🏻 You should try mongosteen. Its like a yin yang with durian, to cancel out the heat from eating durian. Aor Tor Kor is a fresh market frequented by people with higher income as its cleaner than normal fresh market, high quality fresh produces and pricier.

It seems all Farangs who try Durian at Or Tor Kor like it ... which makes sense because Or Tor Kor has mainly top quality Monthong for sale. The other Farangs whose first experience of Durian is a random Durian off the street will mostly hate it ... cause they tend to get extremely ripe cheap version (which are super smelly). Such a pity as they will tend to never try Durian again. Anyways, if someone is reading this and want to try Durian, make sure your first experience is a high quality Monthong that isn't too ripe. The scent will not be too overpowering.

I will have to try the cheaper street variety. Honestly, I was really surprised when I tried it at that market because it’s melt like nothing and it had a great taste. It’s just like if somebody tries sushi for the first time and you take them to a really crappy place, they might never like it either. I firmly believe that if you can, first experiences should be good quality so you don’t get turned off

Hi serg, I love your videos a lot🌟 If I have the opportunity in the near future, I would for sure visit the places in thailand. Right now I’m thinking to move to another country(in 2á3 years),but find it difficult to choose a place. I like thailand, Bali and some western countries. I would love it if you could share more about thailand. What do the locals do in weekends? How do thai people look at foreigners, what kind of mindset do they have? How are the people there in general... How has your experience been so far in thailand? What kind of activity can you do in thailand? Are you planning to learn the language? How do you feel, to be there for 2 months? Are most places safe? Do you know where most of the foreigner live? Could you maybe show in your videos some National parks that they have and how it looks? Which places in thailand is clean, like no garbage on street ect. What kind of treasures does thailand have beside tourists spots? Maybe you can do a Q&A? What is your life purpose and passions? I like your adventures and keep on exploring new things!✨ Keep it up💪🏼🙏🏽 Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

Thank you for the nice clip about Thailand. ❤️ Glad you like Thai Durian (it's different from Durians in many countries.) and now you know why Thai Durian is #1 Durian in China. 😉 However, please be informed not eating Durian with any alcohol drink such as beer because the combination will become toxic and be able to kill people. 😰 Sorry if you already know this information, I didn't see you warn people about it in your clip. 🤓 Thank you again and please take care, 🙏

Thanks for another good tour, Serg. Durian is certainly an acquired taste; durian ice cream is yummy. I’m glad you had a nice and delicious experience with durian on your very first try. If you plan to live in Thailand awhile, you may want to attend a Thai language school and learn some Thai. You’ll likely meet new friends in school. And if you decide to learn Thai at a school, you may want to do an information video on how you went about choosing the school and show us your experience.

@@LifewithSerg You look more Thai to me than Russian. (I think Thai and Russian are two of the most difficult languages to learn and master. English is probably the easiest to learn.)
