I have wanted to buy a motorbike here in Bangkok for quite some time. Well today I will show you how I bought my first motorbike here in Thailand and take it for it's first ride. I explain the whole process of how I purchased my new Honda ADV 160 motorbike. This is also my first time riding it, as it is brand new. With only 2 km on the odometer, I set off to show you the Honda motorcycle dealer where I bought the bike. During my first ride in Bangkok on this ADV 160, I encountered some crazy traffic, a pretty lady, a funny motorbike Taxi driver, and some other characters. Then we are off to the Honda CUB House where I sit down and give a fully detailed explanation of the step by step process to buy a new bike in Thailand. Up next is a quick tour of the Honda CUB house and a quick chat with a guy about his Honda Cub. My last stop on my first day of riding in Bangkok is to NP51 Motors. This is a great used bike dealership with the nicest, and super honest, owner. I am so excited to finally have my own motorbike here in Thailand. So many adventures to be had on it!

I considered the ADV and the PCX and opted for the Honda Click 160. The Honda Click 160 is narrower, shorter wheelbase and tighter turning circle and hence better for filtering through traffic jams in Bangkok. It is also cheaper at 65,000 baht. The centre hook and floor makes one able to carry lots of shopping back from the supermarket easier. Girls like the Honda Click because they can step into it when wearing a skirt or dress to drive it.
@LifewithSerg
@LifewithSerg Жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely correct. And I believe it’s a little bit quicker because it weighs less. Great choice. I plan on taking extended trips on this motor bike, so that’s why the Click was not an option for me.

@@LifewithSerg You made the right decision in choosing ADV. I like it. It's beautiful. As for me, I use Click 160. It's nimble in Bangkok and I've driven it 1,000 kilometers back and forth to other provinces. It's OK but not soft and might hurt my butt.

That scooter is definitely capable to do longer trips, I have done 800km trips several times - 9.5-10hrs on my 155 NMAX. That means I was riding pretty steady on it those times but a couple of years later now after the long covid interruption I have decided to split those into 2-part trips from now on, so even more doable. Congratulations on your purchase, they are very nice scooters, happy riding.

@@LifewithSerg I'm a little in limbo right now, using the time to refine my setup a bit. I will use the same NMAX for now, although I have almost bit on the ADV 350 a few times, or something like a Himalayan b/c it's slow and steady also. so I'd keep the NMAX as everyday still. I flicker back and forth on this like a candle by the window 😄

@@RonniesRambles I agree that 155 is very much capable to do long ish distances. I have a GSX-S150 here in Thailand and it is ok I have travelled a couple thousand kms on it, but I too am looking for something bigger and since I don't live in Bangkok size isn't so much of an issue. Is the NMAX ok going up steep hills? I got a geared bike for the steep hills up here in the north over a scooter.

For the city the 160 is best due to its lighter weight and smaller dimensions. Been working on a Silverwing 400, its a handful compared to my CRF 250l, especially in traffic. Having a yellow house book makes purchase easier, but the process of getting the book in the first place requires a visit to the embassy anyhow, so for a one time deal its the same. Enjoy the adventures you'll have in the future, you made a good choice for the riding you do, despite not being my first choice.

I am Thai working in BKK I rarely use the public transportation and car. To use public transport it still takes time and money to goto mrt, bts etc most of the time I need to combine it. And to use my car is not practical due to the crazy traffic jam. So, the scooter solved my commute problem. It 's fast, agile and cheaper than any public transport and I also use it for earning some extra money getting a delivery. I really love and I think this is a must have for longterm living in BKK.

I’m nowhere NEAR ready to moving to Thailand, I haven’t even visited Thailand, BUT, I’m really liking yours and other peoples videos on actually living in Thailand. I like how you show everyday life and not just vacation mode. Some folks just show “fun” times and we all know that this is not real life. The more videos I see the more I really want to leave this rat race. I live in Southern California and ride a motorcycle and we are legally allowed to split lanes. The problems most have are people that are not from California wanting to impose their ways on us and cutting us riders off. Thanks for the videos, stay safe. FYI, I’ve been told wearing a white helmet is the safest because it’s the easiest for people to see and be aware of.

I don't think I'll live here forever but the people are super kind the food is spicy and the roads are actually pretty decent for motorbike riding and have lane splitting (same as in the UK roads both the splitting and standard too). You don't need to turn on your high beams during the day. Thai people don't use high beams unless the road is very dark. Your bike already has a daytime running light. If you turn on the high beams, you won't be able to use the pass lights. The high beam is used with the pass light button. If you turn on the high beams when you press the pass lights, they won't work. Passlights are used to warn and ask for directions. Just press the flashing pass light and it will mean you're asking for directions. Or you can have the person making the U-turn be careful not to eject.😁😁🙏🙏

Leathers, gloves, helmet, camera mounts, etc, 2. I'm very curious about the embassy paperwork you needed. Perhaps a video on what else the embassy does for expats including location and maybe an interview with one of the employees there if they allow that. Not to mention the passport renewal process.

I'm a college student in Bangkok and bought a Honda CL300 for my daily commute through Bangkok traffic. I don't have extensive experience with motorcycles before, but I have a lot of experience driving a manual car all over the country and in the city. Started my riding yesterday and dinged some mirrors, hopefully I survive.

I bought the same bike. I did many upgrades. One was the suspension because the showa suspension that it comes with is fake. It actually caused me to have an accident the first week. Just so that you know I'm a certified master technician and suspension specialists. Yss has a decent upgrade for the rear shocks in front forks. Biggest problem I had was purchasing it here in Chumphon because they do not know what they are doing. It consumes 60 hours of my time to do the purchase.

LMAO. Welcome to Thailand. Yeah, especially since I weigh 98 kg, the suspension is definitely set up for someone who weighs closer to 70 kg. I’m going to write a stock for quite some time.

Hey bro, Word of warning, if you don't have international or Thai driving(riding) license, once you get pull over it will be 1,000 THB. (or 2-500 bribe) also if you ever got into accident, it will be 10,000 Thb fine, IF you are the one who cause that incident to heppen... SO, please take your time to get it done, It is quite a easy exam! It should be ฿100 or ฿50 per year, plus ฿5 or ฿50 according to the licence type! Enjoy Riding!

I have the same bike here in the Philippines. I love the bike but there are some cons. 1. The rear fender is basically useless. 2. The Showa rear suspension, with its tight coil spacing is prone to rust. 3. The headlight is the weakest in its class. 4. Passing light and handbrake are missing despite them being available on lower level bike models from Honda

Nice Choice, I am on a Kawasaki Versys x300 now, but my 4 speed clutch moto was a Sanyang 125 some 33 years ago classic wire wheel motorcycle/ in between I had a 150 CC cheap china scoot with a large "touring" body. Enjoy your ride, have fun. On Helmets, I use a half helmet (Suzuki one) for the RGV Texas Hot Months, and then have one similar to yours in the video for the colder months/ along with ear plugs for hearing protection/ and $20 dollar Home depot gloves, hard for me to buy any clothing at all/ let along motorcycle clothing (not made in my size) but I wear Columbia sportswear for a jacket / and rain jacket at times. We will also get to something rated as HOT HUMID here on the Texas Gulf coast, and even an hour inland where I live. Love your conversion to Celsius Confusion.

The problem with the 300 cc motor bikes is that they are just giant. I mean like a freaking motorhome. They’re about the size of a 1000 cc motorcycle. I realize that on longer trips the big bike is a lot better. But, a small bike will just make me slow down and enjoy the scenery more.

Good vlog.. Bangkok and Thai roads can be a bit intimidating in the beginning , and whilst I been here many years I did what you did just used public transport for the first couple of years. Today there are significantly more train BTS and MRT lines than 14 years ago. Public transport is reliable and cheap especially if you use buses. However that said I've been riding now for at least 13 years , started with a tiny 50cc scooter just to ride around a large Moo Baan , then moved up to a Honda PCX and last 8 years a Honda Forza, Using a bigger bike does add comfort and is excellent on the longer journeys .. like to Rayong, Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi, Trat and even Phuket.... Thailand is a great place to ride.... but... mindful of road conditions, the weather, and other road users. Night riding is an acquired art, I don't mind doing it as traffic is much less, though you have to be very conscious of vehicles and bikes with no lights. In the wet I'd generally give it a miss and drive, as roads can get flooded and you will not see that hole in the road. Bangkok city riding is generally fine once you get used to the volume of traffic, and yes almost every Thai has has a bike so they are always understanding about them.... plus gasoline is cheaper here and a full tank if your just using the bike for short daily trips will last ages..... the big bonus is parking and how about leaving the helmet on the wing mirrors and your shopping on the seat when you pop in a shop... and nobody steals them.... weird eh?
@LifewithSerg
@LifewithSerg Жыл бұрын
I definitely show away from riding at night here in Bangkok. I got caught out in the floods two times so far, also not a big fan. However, having my own transportation has made a huge difference in my life.

Hi Serg. Buying a city bike makes perfect sense to me. A practical choice for getting around Bangkok. If you find you want a bigger unit for touring you can always hire a larger bike. When you squeezed in between those cars it reminded me of the one and only time a rode on the back of a motorbike in in Bangkok. Those moto taxi guys are crazy. Much safer riding on the back of a Grab bike in Saigon IMO.

I've never ridden any motorbike in my life but your bike looks beautiful! I agree a car is not that useful in Bangkok. I normally use the trains these days though it sill requires some walking. A left lane is go-through or turn on red only if there is a sign indicating that. I guess there is one there in Thai either on the street-side or on the hanging sign above but you didn't notice it. Anyway, enjoy your new motorbike and ride safe!

A ฿20 neck gaiter can prevent smoke very well while driving. I also customize one for the head cover. You don't need a riding license but you should know some trick when facing a police. One advantage of going second hand is that you don't have to go through the process of getting a red number plate and then having to wait for the regular one. I got an ex rental 1987 Dream with 80,000 km on the clock, in 2004 @ 16,000 baht. Sold it for 5,000 baht in 2019 @ 295,000 km (engine overhauled @ 180,000 km, cost 4,000 baht) when I left Thailand. Currently riding a 2020 PCX, now done a trouble free 59,500 km.

Personally I would never buy a prior rental bike or car. People treat rentals like crap usually. Also as I mentioned, a 1-2 year old version of this bike is only 10-15k less. Not worth it.
