In Malaysia, if the laksa broth is not thick, then no Malaysian will buy it. Laksa broth in Malaysia comes in few variances, according to the places it is served. Laksa broth in the north doesn't have curry paste in it and it is more like soup. Laksa broth in Johor is creamy and added with curry paste. Laksa broth on the east coast states is creamy and doesn't have curry powder. That's why the colour is white or murky. Laksa in Sarawak has a very distinct feature and 🍤 taste. Laksa and laksam are actually noodles made from rice flour.

If you wonder why ayam kampung (village/rural chicken) has tougher meat, it is because rural chicken roaming around at free will. Unlike poultry chicken they are more like institutionalised chicken. Living and growing all their life in specialized compound, sometimes never see the outside world. So poultry chicken is not moving around so much. Just eat, sleep and keep growing indoor. Rural chickens are more adventurous, facing and fighting back predators ( so true, I was lucky to saw one event years back. A cock fending off a snake to protect the flock. And winning!) And they are smarter. So their muscles are firm and solid. That is why rural chicken has tougher meat. More healthy to eat. As for frog fruit, different state or ethnic has different name for it. As for Selangor based, primarily Javanese ethnic origins, my folks call them Nam-Nam fruit. Loved by the kids at my village.

Nice of you guys going back to Pasar Siti Khadijah top floor to try the local dishes sold there as I suggested. 👍😋 Ivana observation is correct. Laksam broth is thicker and creamier cause there is Santan (coconut milk) in it. That’s the main ingredient that makes it different from Laksa broth. It’s ok if you are not into it, Steve. I am not into it also but I like Laksa. Nice eating outing. 👍👍😋😋🤤🤤😃
@JetLagWarriors4 жыл бұрын
But laksa also has coconut milk in it, right?
@saifulrizan80674 жыл бұрын
No. Both have fish but only Laksam broth have coconut milk in it. As the old lady said the top broth pot have Santan (this is the broth she put in your Laksam plate) and the young lady said Laksa Penang , Laksa Lemak (to differentiate between the two broths) which means Laksa Penang broth is used for the normal Laksa and Laksa Lemak broth (Lemak=fat/creamy) is used for Laksam. There is also a third type of Laksa which is called Laksa Lemak which basically used the normal Laksa noodle but with the Laksam broth. So Laksa Lemak broth is used for both Laksa Lemak dish and Laksam dish.

Yes may be but the portion sometime not the same in Kelantan may be they put Fish juice Budu in other part of Malaysia they add peanuts powder n some add shrump juice its depends but anyway to me its so hard to stop eating until the sauce finish😋

That fruit is called: Nam Nam in Malay. Other states may have different names... Quite a rare kind of fruit.
@pgnazi4 жыл бұрын
Kelantanese call it katak puru. you know kelantan have funny name for fruits and kueh. kueh taik itik (duck poo), kuba 'guling (rooling buffolo), jala emas (gold net), lompat tikam (jump stab). Jetlag Warriors should try all funny name kueh then you will know why people said Kelantanese like sweet dishes/kueh :D from where i come from (Kubang Kerian, Kelantan), we got 1 breakfast dish that no other place in Kelantan serve/sell. name Nasi kapit pulut (nasi impit+pulut cook with gula melaka+eat with peanut source). only 1 or 2 stall sell in the morning. FYI Kelantan got highest waterfall in Malaysia and SEA named Jelawang Waterfall at Taman Negara Gunung Stong (Gunung Stong State Park (GSSP)), Dabong (303 meters high). you can go there through Jeli. about 90km from Kota Bharu, about 2 hours by bus.

The "frog fruit" is botanically known as Cynometra Cauliflora, also known as namu-namu (Indonesia) or nam-nam (Maldives). We have this tree in my parents' place in Ipoh. It's found mainly in northern Peninsula Malaysia.
@JetLagWarriors4 жыл бұрын
ah how lucky that you have the tree. I heard that it’s rare to find.

You should try "sup ekor" or "sup tulang" in Kelantan.. Laksam noodles is different from Laksa noodles.. the laksam gravy is too thick for some people but very delicious.

31st of August is approaching soon. Do remember to update your visa situation. It is on Monday (will be Public Holiday since it is Malaysia's Independence Day) and not sure if the visa place opens on weekend. 28 will be the last day probably to renew it. 16th of September is Malaysia's Day btw

If you still in Kelantan, you should go to Pak Mat Teh Tarik Madu for breakfast. They serve nasi berlauk(rice with local chicken or fish curry) and their signature sweet and foamy honey-flavored teh tarik! As local, I think their ayam percik is pretty good and authentic!
