Gah!! Who eats nasi dagang without gravy!!🤦🏻♀️🤦 Sorry, we screwed this one up. Unfortunately we came at a very busy time and the staff weren’t able to help (we don’t blame them), plus there is the language barrier. So we had to figured it out ourselves (self-served). But we still enjoyed nasi dagang without the curry. Can’t imagine how much better it would be with the gravy! Hopefully there will be time to have a redemption meal before we leave Terengganu. Thanks to everyone who let us know we did it wrong - your comments really help us, so keep them coming!! ✨Follow us on instagram (@jetlagwarriors) for behind the scenes and daily stories instagram.com/jetlagwarriors

I was told that the rice is special one imported from Thailand. I remember, my first nasi dagang was circa 1989, at Dungun. I was lucky that my first one was the best. That time, no fancy-fancy fried chicken la, daging bakar la... just a simple kari tongkol(tuna)... and I prefer it than nasik lemak as the way its cook/prepared

Based on my family recipe, nasi dagang is made by a quarter of glutinous rice and 3 quarter of regular rice. We steamed it until it almost cooked before pour coconut milk on it and let it cook. For the fish, we boil it first for a long time until the water almost dried up, then we cook the gravy, we put the fish and cook it with slow fire for almost a night. If we make the gravy at 9pm, it will be finished at 3am, and we need to stir it occasionally. For the keropok lekor, usually we knead the fish and sago flour with cold water and for the sauce, we cook the chilli paste with palm sugar and some vinegar until it become thicker. I lived in KL before for 3 years, but i cannot enjoy much the food there, so i bought the spices and the basic ingredients when i back to my hometown and i cook nasi dagang during weekend to cure my tastebud craving. Im glad that both of you enjoyed it. Have a nice stay in Terengganu, where nature embraces heritage.

This was traditionally a dish consumed by Malay Fishermen because it could last longer (most original condiments were either preserved, pickled or deep fried to last) and provided much of the nutrition needed for a tough day ahead. Should have got the keropok/kuah with it..yummy! BTW Dagang means trade.

Nasi dangang Terengganu is a mix of gelatinous rice and normal rice. The fish, usually is tuna, boil first before being cook n the curry. If you are going to Kelantan you should try Kelantan nasi dagang, they use different rice, reddish rice, beside nasi dagang Kelantan you should try nas kerabu too. Peng is borrow word from Fujian/Hokkien Chinese which means ice. So you add the word peng if you want drink with ice. SERUNDING beef or chicken is a must try food, Kelantan are famous for it, but if you are not going to Kelantan try look for them in Terengganu. Serunding can be eaten by itself, with rice or sandwich..

Teh Peng or pronounced as teh beng is ice milk tea (or ice teh tarik) the tea was sweet & frothy because they add honey into the tea.. Btw, we never put sambal onto our nasi dagang.. But we will add extra gravy with cili padi & crush the cili padi into the rice for extra 'kick'

Nasi Dagang is a mixture of rice and glutinuous rice while Nasi Lemak is just rice cooked in coconut milk. Nasi Lemak has ginger and onions but Nasi Dagang has ginger, fenugreek, onion and sometimes lemongrass. Nasi Dagang, you must eat the fish curry where the fish is simmer for hours to get the texture. Nasi Lemak is just the sambal.

As a KL native I've always preferred Terengganu's nasi dagang compared to the Kelantan nasi dagang. Anyway in KT it is actually common for patrons queueing up a line at nasi dagang joints. Not just nasi dagang atas tol but other nasi dagang stalls/restaurants as well. Especially the ones that were viraled on line. Couldn't compare both nasi lemak and nasi dagang since it is 2 different dishes on its own. I like both. It's just a matter of where you get your nasi lemak or nasi dagang.

It's Teh Ais. In Terengganu, the word PENG after a drink name means Cold (drink). That means 'ais'. Milo ais = milo peng. Teh ais = teh peng. Meanwhile in Kelantan, it's almost similar but is BENG. Teh beng, milo beng. Teh tarik normally serve as hot/warm, but sometimes teh tarik also can put ice. It can contain foam and also serve as cold drinks. The one that you drink is an innovation of normal teh tarik ais but with more foam. Kelantan and Terengganu people called it jebok, means foam. You can called it Teh Jebok

Sungai Bangang( actually its Bangan but due to excessive use of "G" by local, so.. whenever they see "n" at the end of a word, straight away "G" will come into place). Anyway.. Sg Bangang is further south, located at Dungun. Good for trekking, waterfall and super-super clear blue and or green water.(oops!! .. It should be a surprise for you guys) 🤫 Not many tourist knows about this place.
