What I love about this version of Peter is, instead of being a loser for being a “nerd” like Tobey & Holland, this version is more of an outcast cause of his personality (he’s awkward, shy, and jittery). Then when he’s Spider-Man he comes alive and is the funniest of the 3 versions. I also like the expectation subversion with the bullies on the subway, where even though they’re screwing with Peter, they still stick up for the girl when they think Peter is harassing her. It’s a great set-up to Flash’s redemption, showing there is always another side to people ALSO, as a New Yorker, Andrew’s Spidey sounds the most like one
@ChrisPTenders Жыл бұрын
I think the Raimi depiction of Peter Parker gave people the idea he's supposed to be a nerd, but nobody realizes that's actually a unique take, just like making him awkward and jittery. In the comics he's actually written as someone who everyone hates because he's a condescending narcissist, which makes writing a true comic book accurate Peter Parker a very hard sell as a character to any movie studio. We've had multiple takes on the character in comics as well. The misunderstood cool guy was done in the Ultimate series, where he successfully uses his powers to earn respect and becomes popular in high school. There's even a comic version of Peter written like a young Tony Stark, so pretty much every movie version of Peter had a comic run that did a similar take a few years prior to the adaptation.

The portrayal of Peter’s personally from Garfield is actually a lot more in line with the comics than Maguire. Peter never really had that puppy dog quality. He had a chip on his shoulder and would still say what he wanted. Even if he looked like a nerd, but he stopped looking like a nerd shortly after he became Spider-Man. And this version of Spider-Man is much more in line with the comics. As he really goes after the people he’s fighting with clever insults to throw them off.

The funniest part about the Garfield Spiderman movies and the hate that they got is that Garfield's take on Spiderman (and on Peter, if we're being honest) is more comic-accurate than the Tobey or Tom Holland versions are. The cockiness, the quirkiness, the constant quips and one-liners, the movements, all are so much more like the comics in Garfield's version. Plus the cinematography is so much better than the Raimi movies had, the first-person shots of Spiderman swinging through the city still hold up incredibly well today. It probably helps that Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy actually has some agency and is highly competent, instead of basically every female character being a constant damsel-in-distress screaming for help every 5 minutes like in the Raimi movies. Also, poor Andrew Garfield, not getting a third Spiderman movie....he absolutely deserved to get one.
@earthsruby Жыл бұрын
This version of Spider-Man is actually way more true to the original comics than Tobye's. Not only did the original Spider-Man build his web shooters, as he wasn't able to produce the web in his body (no idea why Sam Raimi went with that), but Gwen was also the original love interest. Plus Peter always has been as cheeky/sassy, especially when talking to bad guys. Tobey's version had some attempts of that, but here they really made it stick out, which I actually love.
@ethanrodgers2838 Жыл бұрын
Also another thing that makes him a little more accurate is that he didn’t jump into the hero game after Uncle Ben died. In the Lee and Ditko run, Peter didn’t put on his costume to become a superhero after Ben’s death. He was still looking for ways to profit off of his powers, as him letting the thief get away screwed him and his aunt financially. It wasn’t until like 4 or so issues that he thought about being a hero. So yeah, I give this movie props for that.

Hey there, To answer your question about Andrew not being spiderman in the MCU, it was a licencing issue. Spiderman lives with Sony, and for a long time Marvel couldn't use him. After the Amazing spiderman 2 came out, Sony was beginning to create a bad reputation as a studio and so in desperate times, they came together with Marvel to make a "unique" licencing deal: We'll let you use spiderman in the MCU, If you help us (Sony) make better Spider-Man movies in your universe. SM3 w/Toby was the movie Sam Raimi didnt want to make but was forced to by Sony to include Venom, a character he didnt find interesting but since fans were waiting for Venom to appear he was forced to put him in the movie, after that his relationship with Sony broke down and SM4 was planned but then shelved when Raimi quit. Instead of continuing the story (like WB did with Batman after Keaton left and made movies with Kilmer and Clooney) Sony decided to revamp SM and start over, thus Amazing Spider-Man. Then when the ASM movies didnt reach the box office numbers of the previous movies that's when they decided to partner with Marvel/Disney and join the MCU with Holland as Spider-Man and start over again. As for Gwen, in the comics she was Peter's first love. The Raimi SM skipped that relationship and went straight to MJ, the MCU Spidey as well. You kinda already know what happens since Garfield-Spidey in No Way Home he says what happens.

1:44 So in the late 90s Marvel was actually going out of business, so Marvel sold off character rights to Sony and 21st Century Fox to stave it off until Kevin Feige created Marvel Studios and the MCU in 2005. One of the stipulations for both Fox and Sony to keep having said character rights is they needed to make movies about said characters every X number of years otherwise the rights go back to Marvel. That is why the Amazing Spider-Man series came to be: it was Sony trying to hold onto the character rights after Tobey's 2007 Spider-Man 3 movie came out. When Sony was hacked in 2014 and they lost a ton of money due to really bad publicity (ask Angelina Jolie) they agreed with Marvel Studios to let them use Spider-Man in the MCU in exchange for those movies being considered part of Sony fulfilling the original contract and therefore holding onto the Spider-Man rights. Marvel decided on a new Spider-Man because they didn't want to merge the MCU with Andrew Garfield's ASM universe. In other words, Marvel forced Sony to agree to a recast for the character so Marvel could protect the continuity of the MCU and Sony had to agree otherwise risk losing the character rights altogether

for your question about the spidermen..in Studio and Film point of view, Tobey's spiderman was pre-MCU..remember, the Spiderman franchise is owned by Sony..while the MCU is Disney/ Marvel Studios..so technically, Disney doesnt have any control or power on the spiderman casting..since the MCU started on 2008, and Tobey's spiderman was actually finished by that time..Sony wanted to have their own cinematic universe evolving around spiderman..hence, Andrew's Amazing Spiderman 1 & 2..now, it didnt go off like they wanted..so they scrapped that idea..now, before Captain America: Civil War was released, there has been talks between Sony and Disney to make a deal to share Spiderman..and they wanted that character to last a very long time in the franchise, hence, a younger actor in Tom Holland.. about Gwen and MJ, in the comics, Gwen is Peter's 1st love, around high school i think..then MJ in his college..they twist it in Tobey's films.. as you already watched the Loki series, you can say that Tobey and Andrew's Peter Parker are variants from the other universe outside Tom's Peter Parker.. great reaction V..

The business back then decided they needed shock factor and the writers of the death of Gwen Stacy comic had a meeting to decide who they needed to kill off between MJ, aunt may, and Gwen Stacy. The initial idea given from the head office was aunt may since she was old but the creators decided against it due to her role being too important to Peter, they couldn’t just give him a new mother figure, but they did have a fan favorite lined up who could replace his love interest so they decided to do that

Andrew Garfield is almost 40 years old, he's a little old to be playing a high schooler/college kid.. Tobey Maguire is 47. Tom Holland is 26. But Tom was only 17 when he was cast as Spider-Man making him the youngest major actor to play the character in live action, and the closest to the character's actual age. Tobey was 26, Andrew was 27, and Tom was 18 when they started filming on their first film portraying the high schooler.

These movies had their faults, but I don't care. So did **ALL** the Spider-Man movies. These are my favorites. Andrew Garfield is the best live-action Spider-Man, in my humble opinion.

the biggest technical reason why there are 3 spider men are because Sony owns the rights to spider man. so Toby was the first made by Sony, Andrew was the reboot as toby stopped playing spider man and if they hadn't made Andrew's Sony would have lost the spider man rights. Tom's spider man was a deal between Sony and Disney to include spider man in the MCU.

Peter had several love interests in the comics. Gwen and MJ were just the main two. As far as your question for why Andrew Garfield couldn't move on to play Spiderman in the Avengers/they had Tom Holland replace him, here's the scoop.... Coming off the hugely successful 2012 Avengers film, many movie studios attempted to replicate their formula of having their own cinematic universes with little to no success themselves. For example, Universal tried doing a "Dark Universe" with various monster movies. The 2017 Mummy film with Tom Cruise was supposed to be the kickstarter for it. It totally bombed so the whole idea was scrapped. That said... The Amazing Spiderman was to be Sony's own attempt at creating a Spiderman cinematic universe since they own the movie rights to the character. The problem was that after the first Amazing Spiderman was a relatively successful hit, the studio execs got overly anxious with the idea of creating this cinematic universe. So what did they do? They tried cramming WAY too many plot points into the Amazing Spiderman 2 in order to set the stage for too many future movies that didn't even exist yet and the movie suffered for it. It was the lowest drawing Spiderman movie to date and it's looked down on very unfavorably by both audiences and critics. Because of this, the Amazing Spiderman series was cut short after only two movies, the attempted Sony Spiderman universe was scrapped, and Andrew Garfield's involvement as Spiderman came to a close. This is why Marvel Studios worked out a deal with Sony to allow Tom Holland to play Spiderman in Civil War shortly after. It was yet another attempt to reboot Spiderman.

1:48 Uh if someone wants to correct me if Im wrong... Wasn't it because at the time of Andrew's Spiderman films, Sony had the rights to make Spiderman movies? Tom Holland was cast as the MCU Spiderman and introduced in Civil War because of copyright licensing negotiations right? Even though Tom Holland is part of the main MCU, his Spiderman films are not on Disney Plus with the other Marvel films.

Great reaction as always Vicky! I always felt that this movie was underrated and I really liked Andrew Garfield's performance in it, Emma Stone does a great job too..... their chemistry was great. In the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies, Flash Thompson is portrayed so much better than in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man's. I thought The Lizard was an interesting choice for Garfield's Spider-Man' first villain (and I agree with you, Dr. Conners is not an evil man). Again, great reaction. Many blessings to you and yours.

In point of fact Denis Leary _was_ a comic before he took up acting. Also, Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man. Back in the day Marvel was in financial trouble, so they sold the rights to certain characters. Fox got the X Men, and the MCU couldn't use the word "mutant," hence "enhanced" humans. It took a lot of log rolling to get Spider-Man into the MCU, but that's probably part of the reason Tom Holland was cast. As you've figured out by now, there's only two Garfield movies, so one more and you can watch No Way Home. I'm not normally the one who insists that you watch 2 or 3 seasons of two different shows just to "really get" a series (The Mandalorian, pointed look), but this is an exception. In many ways No Way Home is as powerful as Endgame.

A quick summary to answer your question I'm the beginning. Sam raimi didn't like the interference from Sony in spider man 3 and 4 script so he left the project. Sony rebooted the series with Andrew Garfield. And amazing spider man 3 was cancelled cause Andrew Garfield got fired for some specific reasons. Sony was just interfering with a lot of stuff. Then people wanted spider man in mcu so they rebooted the character again with a deal with Disney marvel and Sony. And after a few ups and downs behind the scenes here we are.

In the comics, Spiderman's love interest in highschool was Gwen Stacey, up until she dies to which makes Peter a mopey moody mess for a while, till he gets to empire state university and lives on his own, aunt May takes in a roommate to fill the house up and keep her company when Peter isn't around, a woman of similar age range by the name of Anna Watson. Then when Peter is visiting, Anna's niece is going to Pop by to sight see New York to break into modeling, then Peter meets the one woman who makes him a chick magnet for every other woman in his college life, Ms Mary Jane Watson. Also in the comics every iteration of spiderman had mechanical web shooters until the creation of the spiderman 2099 comic series

Also Peter and Harry have been friends since they were kids. In college is when they roomed together. And when Peter realizes Harry's odd relationship with his father and the rest of the world. Only rich person he met in college was Felicia Hardy. Who was turbulence incarnate due to her newly rich status, considering the Hardy family wealth being of ill gotten gains, which lead her to become the black cat. Infact, Felicia first got interested in Peter because of her rivalry with MJ.

*Fyi Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland’s Spiderman don’t have genetic web shooter, they don’t come out from their hands, they make it. What makes Tobey Maguire so special and different is his web shooter comes out from his hands without web shooter maker. Also they show it in the scene from Spiderman: Far from Home, the difference between them*
