It's funny to hear someone refer to this as his "lesser known" movies. If you grew up watching Tom Hanks become famous, then the movies he was known for were "Big" and "Splash" and of course his starring role in the TV series "Bosom Buddies". I bet that one wouldn't fly today lol.

One of Tom's more hidden comedic gems is The Money Pit with Shelley Long. There are a lot of rumors about an alternate ending with the girl making a wish to be his age. I honestly don't know about that, but there is an old TV movie from 1983 with a similar premise to Big, but uses science rather than magic. It's titled 14 Going On 30, or something like that. This particular movie was an original TV movie done for The Disney Sunday Movie(The Wonderful World of Disney). I have a few recommendations. Among them include Flight of the Navigator, The Great Race, and The Rocketeer.

Add my vote for the movie, "Splash." As you rightly point out, Tom Hanks is good in everything he stars in, but sometimes the quality of the film itself was very "meh." But "Splash" is a top tier movie, directed by Ron Howard. (John Candy and Eugene Levy have smaller roles and steal virtually every scene they are in; they are hilarious.) Another top tier Tom Hanks movie reunites him with the same director of "Big," - that would be Penny Marshall - and that movie is called "A League of Their Own."

secretly this is one of the most accurate NYC movies, capturing the good and bad feelings of living there. when he's freaking out at chaos, that's real. the specific things he reacts to are real. the awesome parts of NYC are also like, matter-of-fact ways of being, creature comforts, which in this movie absolutely accurate. new yorkers take pride in not fetishizing new york or getting starry eyed about whatever. we're not sentimental, we're realistic-but we're shockingly moral and grateful and HELPFUL. for me this is the most accurate NYC movie, and after this, Se7en. none of the crime gross plot stuff, just all scenes with Paltrow except technically the ending.
