If you listen to the Hydra weapons charge up, they sound like a lower toned Repulsor blast from Iron Man's suit. Recall how in the film recording, Howard told Tony that the new element to power the arc reactor was his life's work. The Arc reactor technology was derived from Howard's studies of the Tessaract.

"For a person without super-powers..." Well technically, Cap *does* have super-powers. He has super-human strength, stamina, reflexes, and overall endurance. He can withstand more damage, heal much faster, and react far quicker than even the most fit & in-shape human being. His shield is also incredibly powerful on its own, even more so with Cap wielding it. When you add all of the intense training and experience he develops on top of all that, he's an incredibly significant force to be reckoned with.

Vibranium is important and deserves some explanation. On Earth, vibranium comes only from a fictional African country called Wakanda. It is rare throughout the universe, and a fair number of alien technologies are dependent on it. Vibranium is a metaphor for the resources of Africa that were stolen by European colonialism. What makes it special is that it can convert energy from one form to another. In the alloy in Captain America's shield, it converts the energy of incoming attacks to sound. That's why it makes a ringing sound when it gets hit really hard, it's why the shield does not at all bounce like a normal object, and why it is nearly indestructible.

1:38 - notice that Schmidt didn't seem disappointed that the soldiers couldn't move the lid. He just accepted it, and opened the tomb himself. Also that Zola never had a suicide tooth. e may be evil and determined to conquer the world, but Schmidt did care about the people under his command

Eh... I was never a huge fan of him traditionally, only because I find overt patriotism really 1-dimensional and cheesy. But he has definitely grown on me more as far as the MCU is concerned with how he developed throughout the movies (e.g. being less of a 1-note, predictable soldier type of character and started showing more depth).

Explanation: in the comic book "golden age," most comic book writers and artists were the sons of immigrants, mostly Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. The Captain America character was originally pure propaganda. It was how Marvel artists and writers tried to convince America to join the war on the side of the Allies. This propaganda phase was represented by the war bond story in this movie. Captain America fell out of favor with comic book readers after the war. During the Vietnam war, a lot of Americans on the pro-war side of the argument made un-American arguments while claiming to be motivated by patriotism. This was when the "frozen in ice" story happened. The stories claimed that Captain America was frozen in ice during WW2, and thawed out in the modern era. Ever since then, the function of the character is to appeal to jingoists while feeding them criticisms they might not accept from anyone else. You will see the character used this way in the second and third Captain America movies. For example, the second movie talks about (criticizes) government surveillance in a post-9/11 world. During the Bush II administration, many American jingoists made excuses for government surveillance.
