@@adekunletaiwo1342 the spy stuff is just "Maters Tall Tales". If you watched "Cars Toon" as a kid, you'd see Mater telling a story and no one believing him. Then they find out it's true at the end. This would just be an extension of that. The message is about friendship and trust. The plot is that there are people who are hurt who just want others to feel the same. They make these messages very obvious, I think people would rather just hate on a series just because it's different than what brought you into it

to me this is a masterpiece and the best of the franchise. It’s so grounded in its own ‘cars’ universe and its quality never ceases to amaze me. just because it felt like a different genre of movie doesn’t make it bad. It’s evolved. Pixar is just showing the lengths they could go within their universe. since a child parts of that world still lives in me.

The junior novelisation of Cars 2 titled "Fueled For Adventure" (which is written from Finn's POV) mentions that Finn actually did suspect at one point that Mater wasn't a spy, but didn't say anything. By that point it was most likely too late to do anything since Mater already knew too much, and they didn't really have much of a choice. Additionally, Finn most likely didn't want Holley to worry and was probably still grieving over Leland. Like the scene where Mater is in the casino and Finn says "He's so good." It's most likely he was trying to convince himself (and Holley) that Mater was doing a good job when he knew deep down they had a potential civilian in too deep.

People hate it because its not a direct sequel to the story of the Cars universe and more of a Mater movie. Cars 3 feels like a sequel to cars. This one is great as it own standalone movie but in the grand scheme of the cars story it adds nothing. (I like this one more than any other cars movie btw, this is just reasoning of some of my friends. They tell me it feels like a mater tall tales movie)
