Good reaction. Thanks. 'Commando' is one of the best comic-book style action pictures ever made. Simple, strong characterization, good and evil clearly defined, great action set-pieces, a celebration of male physicality, and, if that is not enough, brilliant one-liners. How on earth could anyone not like 'Commando'?

Commando, Rambo, Cobra, Invasion USA, Death Wish 3, were some of our "super hero" movies of the 80's. Commando was my first Arnie's movie, I loved it so much that I asked my dad to watch it again the same night, and we did! I was 9 when I saw it in the theater.

This was the most eighties movie to ever eighties. One of the BIG differences is that it's not filmed using non-stop shaky-cams with 1,000 editing cuts. You can actually tell what's happening on screen... which isn't exactly a benefit in a movie like this. (I was a theater usher when it was released and we must have picked out at least 20 visible "oddities.") The key to enjoying this kind of Arnold film is to not take it seriously. They certainly didn't when making it. Go in expecting nonsensical action and that's exactly what you'll get.

This is another personal favorite of mine. I miss movies like this where no one is suppose to take it serious. It's just a fun time with over-the-top action. I want to get a Blu-Ray projector and set up a home theater sometime. Get some friends together and watch movies like this. I wished I had the money.

I love this movie...pure and simple. When I was a kid, this movie played maybe 6 or 7 times a year on my local station, usually on Saturday afternoons. It was edited, obviously. But we loved it then, and I love it now. It offers exactly what it promises...Arnold kicking ass and blowing stuff up. No more, no less. It is one of the most enjoyable movies ever, just because of that. It's quotable, it's funny. It's 100% awesome.

This is also the first time he said it again after Terminator, if I’m not mistaken. Commando started that tradition (not to mention the string of one-liners). Commando is in some ways the movie that laid the blueprint for what we now consider the typical “Arnie movie”.

neat fact the actor David Kelly who played Sully played the bottle finger guy in Warriors, Rae Dawn Chong is the daughter Chong from Cheech and Chong, Arnold Schwarzenegger performed many of his own stunts, as producers found it difficult to find a stunt double for the bodybuilder. The actor suffered a dislocated shoulder and several stitches during the shoot, this is Mark L Lester’s favourite film that he's directed, The villains kidnap John Matrix's daughter and try to use her as leverage to get him to do an assassination for them. He rebels (of course) and begins trying to get her back by tracking down the members of the group and getting them to reveal where she is. One of the first such members, Sully, frantically tries to get to a phone booth to inform his superiors about what's going on and in one case is in the middle of dialing when Matrix destroys the phone booth to stop the call from going through. Starting about 10-12 years later, Sully would almost certainly have had a cell phone and could have placed the call within seconds of seeing Matrix and Rae Dawn Chong's reactions to the motel fight were filmed separately and were completely ad-libbed. Excluding first two facts Credit to TV Tropes the first two are my own.

This is probably the action movie that I have watched the most number of times in my life. My dad had a copy on VHS that he recorded when it aired on HBO. We watched it together when I was in 1st grade and then nearly every time I went to visit him at his house, I would watch it at least twice.

Arnold and Stallone went back and forth with each other for quite a few years in the 80's, just piling on more cheesiness and one liners before these types of movies fizzled out. Stallone's response to this was called "Cobra".

If you watch the car chase scene again, you will notice that the yellow car is all beat up and scratched on the drivers side when it puts it back on it's wheels but when they drive off in it, there isn't a mark on it. Gotta love those little mistakes that they miss and they get left in the final cut

This was Arnold's attempt to compete with Stallone for Rambo 2 . It's a fun movie , but Stallone was on another level . Best thing about this movie is Bennett !

I need to rewatch this - it's been donkey's years. My Navy bud tells a story of the middle-age PO on board his ship; there were two DVDs aboard and one was Commando. The guys would put it on all the time. The PO would stick his head in and utter "Uhh, not this shite again"... and then sit down, grab a beer and watch the whole damn thing with them.

I love this movie. This was the movie that made me fall in love with arnold. I was 3. My dad and I loved watching this movie. Fun fact Die Hard was supposed to be Commando 2 but Arnold turned it down and they change the daughter to a wife and that's how another franchise was made.

the thing with movies in the 80's is that enemies always had ghetto aim and missed while the hero/protagonist would dumpmag into an entire armada without aiming down the sight..... the 80's were a crazy time for movies and other things.

Glad you had fun with the movie it is one of my favourite Arnold Films and ironically did not make much money in the theatres but became more popular then Rambo 2 and this made people know that Arnold improved his acting enough to convinced people he could play a good guy yes Conan was first but he was not as great as he was with this film and Love your reactions.

I have to go do something, but I am coming back to watch this. This is one of my all time favorite movies for how insane crazy it is. When it comes to one-liners in movies, it's a toss for me between this and Die Hard. I am not sure, but this movie used to have the most kills in any movie, I don't know if that still holds up. And, I mean on camera kills. A movie might have a scene where a bomb goes off and kills a whole city, but that is a little different. You have done two of my most favorite movies, This and The Last Dragon.

This as his next film after The Teminator. Pure classic. This and Rambo:First Blood Part 2 were the initial insprations for The Konami arcade smash, CONTRA (1987). I saw the extended cut on Paramount Plus and it still holds up.
