"Let me finish. I've got to prove it." "Prove what?" "I'm not a mistake." That's one of my favorite dialog exchanges in the entire Rocky/Creed cinematic universe. When he said that, you could feel the air leaving the theater. Everyone got the wind knocked out of them by that emotional gut punch.
@Okidata297 ай бұрын
Amazing writing! "I'm not a mistake" is the ONLY reason Rocky didn't stop the fight. It's a callback to 1976: "..and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood" Seeing the subtle blink of understanding on Rocky's face after Adonis said that... it's for moments like that which makes going to see movies with an audience worth it.

@thedefinitionisthis7 ай бұрын
For me, I always feel like the scene that got Sly nominated was the one where Rocky is told he has cancer. Like, THAT is acting. You see him go through the range of emotions in just his face. From just the shock of it, to his acceptance. And it's also worth noting that while he doesn't really break while being told he has cancer, the only time he comes close to crying is when he's offered a chance at chemo, and he replies fighting through brief tears: "My wife tried that." That scene just tells a story that could be interpreted as him not necessarily worrying about what he'll go through; it's about remembering how hard it was for Adrian.

What’s makes the Rocky franchise so special and irreplaceable is we get to watch the character of a great man over his lifetime. For me that happened over a 40 year process when I saw Rocky in the movie theatre in 77. Your generation is lucky. You get to watch it unfold in the matter of days, weeks or months depending on how much you want to binge. When I was in college I made my girlfriend (now my wife) binge Rocky 1-5 all in one day. I saw 'Creed' at a sneak preview night before it opened nationwide. The audience was engaged from the opening scene, and reacted to favorably at the humorous, the dramatic, and the heart-tugging moments throughout this movie. One of the biggest reactions came when Adonis rose from his corner in the final round in his match against "Pretty" Ricky Conlan. When the "Gonna Fly Now" (Rocky theme) music hit, the packed theater erupted in cheers. Sitting in the middle of the theater, that moment gave me chills as my eyes were darting from watching the audience and the action on the movie screen. Awesome movie from start to finish!!

Stallone is easily one of the top action stars of all-time. But because of the Rocky franchise, he's also cemented a place as not only a great action star...but also a great actor, a great writer, and a great director. I'm not usually one for hyping up any celebrity, but I'll always give them their due along with whatever critiques I have. Sly has plenty to criticize over the years, and the Rocky franchise hasn't always been the best, but he's definitely grossly underrated in everything he's put his hand to. Creed itself isn't only a great addition to the Rocky franchise, and an excellent passing of the torch, it's just a great film in its own right. And it is indeed a film, and not merely a movie.

Jordan for real at 29:06 as its a right of passage to take a real punch. Bellew reckoned he only gave it 40% so as to not really hurt Jordan, but Jordan reckoned he felt like he got hit by a car for days after. Stallone tried to get the rights to the Rocky character from producer Irvin Winkler because he wants to produce a prequel film focusing on Rocky's teenage years, but Winkler isn't having any of that. Sly should have thought of negotiating ownership of the characters when he sold the screenplay for the first Rocky film to Irvin Winkler in 1975/76.
