In Northern Ireland, Year 13 is the first year of post-compulsory education. Students in Year 13 are aged between 16 and 17. It usually forms part of a Sixth form or Sixth-form college. The girls (and James) are fifth years (Michelle mentions in the first episode), and somewhere around 16 (Erin mentions her age in the first episode as well).
