This sequel is a tried-and-true Hollywood classic, and like always, Rodrick steals the show. Especially since this is _his_ movie, after all. And not to mention, that after-party cleanup scene is singlehandedly cinema at its finest. And because of this movie, I now apply Rodrick's secrets to an easy life to my own. And they actually work, believe it or not.

The car park scene is my favourite part. It perfectly shows they can get along. Just seeing Rodrick and Greg being bros, having each other’s back, and bonding is so wholesome.

@@alejandrorey359that’s not completely true. Rodrick tells him about the Spag Union stuff in the mail and doesn’t want Greg to have to go there. Greg also gets Rodrick a band gig with Heather Hills knowing how much it would mean to Rodrick. The relationship between the 2 is much better now

The third movie I think does things a lot better by expanding the DOAWK universe and focusing the story on the father-son relationship between Greg and Frank Heffley. The first one is good at establishing Greg, Rowley, Rodrick etc as characters but the story is mostly going nowhere and Greg himself is INSUFFERABLE

One of the best parts about the movie trilogy (Yes TRILOGY) is the fact that all the characters, especially Greg, genuinely grows with each movie. It's one of the reason why I don't like Greg at all in the books because all his growth keeps being reset to keep the series running which makes him seem like a genuine sociopath rather than here, where he's a mean spirited kid who eventually learns to be better. The movie just has the perfect ending.

I don’t think he even grows in the books either. He makes mistake after mistake, often in the same book and doesn’t really seem to ever have any changes or regrets. Book Greg Heffley is a sociopath. Movie Greg Heffley is a flawed, sometimes obnoxious but well meaning character

31:33 And here's some book lore: The secret about Greg getting stuck in the women's bathroom at the nursing home already happened before the book started. This whole book is about how Rodrick was holding it over his head. The whole thing with the talent show, from what I still remember, went something like this: They were gonna use the talent show and footage to promote their band, but it didn't pan out that way for a few reasons: 1. They went on the same time as another act, a kid rollerblading in figure 8s to Yankee Doodle Dandee, and THAT kid won best musical act of the night. 2. The mom was behind the camera, but she wouldn't stop making comments about stuff she didn't like. So the footage was useless. 3. Then they got the idea to use the official talent show footage and let their performance speak for itself. And THAT'S when the mom got caught on camera coming on stage dancing to the music. So their hopes and dreams were kaput, and Rodrick took it out on Greg by telling everyone about the nursing home incident. BUT, it doesn't end there: See, Rodrick told everyone what happened over a weekend, so thanks to the gossip chain, which is essentially a game of telephone, the story changed from an embarrassing incident at the nursing home into Greg sneaking into the girls locker room to video tape them.

Greg actually had it because he found the play money their mom had been using. He gave it, but found out the paper in question was from BEFORE their dad started writing Rodricks papers. He was screwed. ON TOP OF THAT, their mom promptly stopped the Mom Bucks system because Rodrick tried to cash in all the Mom Bucks Greg gave him at once.

You have to watch the third film. In my opinion, it’s not as good as this one, but there’s such an iconic scene towards the end of the movie that will live in your head rent free!! Great reaction btw ❤️ A lot of people will say not to watch The Long Haul, but the first 3 movies are my childhood and I liked The Long Haul as its own film. I just think most fans didn’t like it because they were older by the time it came out, and because there are different actors. I was 15 when The Long Haul came out and enjoyed it as its own film. I don’t count it as a part of the franchise, but as its own film, I liked it. And that’s coming from a hardcore fan of this franchise. I tried watching the newer animated movies and I didn’t like it at all. There’ll always be that one person that likes the one that everyone hates. So I do recommend giving all the movies a try. Just because other people didn’t like a film, doesn’t mean you’ll have the same opinion as they do, until you try watching it. :)

After my grandad's funeral about two or three years ago, my parents would go up to his house every so often to clean it out. I chose to stay home each time on account of how difficult it would feel to be there without him. I was up there three times since he died: once when we first found out, once for the funeral, and once to take a tour of a college campus that was nearby. But it still felt strange.
