Dr. Lee cared about the integrity of music. He was saying he didn't want to risk his students only caring about band depending on whether or not they played popular music. He wanted them to actually learn and be in the band for the love of music in general. Some people dropped out of band right before we got in high school because they knew we were gonna be playing old school music when we got there. Old school artists cared more about music than people do now. They had a passion for it. Most people back then used live instruments, which is why black bands play a lot of old school music. That shows whether you can really play or not too. That's why so many bands play songs by Earth, Wind and Fire because they were an actual band. Old school music is a lot harder to play.

All that conditioning is no joke-it’s because those drums are heavy! It takes major stamina and core strength to hold them, march, and play for the full 3+ hours of a game, plus the '5th quarter' band competition afterward. And don’t forget parades-marching and playing for 2-3 miles in a hot uniform isn’t easy. 🥵 The running and fitness training helps them keep up their energy and play well, just like singers practice dancing and singing to stay strong and steady. Same deal with instruments-you can’t play your best if you’re tired and out of breath!

Someone should make a movie mashup between, Drum Line, and Stomp The Yard. It would focus on two college freshmen. One, a talented snare drummer trying to make the drum line. The other, a dancer pledging to be on the fraternity step line. The two guys become friends, go through all the trials and stuff and make it on their perspective teams. Towards the end there would be a spectacular competition. They would somehow combine the two. They would win or whatever. Lots of cheers, smiles, and hugs. End credits, fade to black…

SL you’ll never understand. Being in marching band in high school was some of the best times of my life in school bc the rest of school was boring so I had something to be excited to do. Doing them push ups, running laps and whatever else definitely helps when playing and marching on the field, the parades, the football games, the competitions. The movie alone was the reason most of us was in band and went on to college bands. One band one sound was everybody’s motto🩷 back then it was ok to be a band nerd 😂 now it’s a lost art bc most kids not even interested in it

One of my faves. This made me want to go to Morris Brown, but by the time I was applying to college, they had shut down. They didn't get their accreditation until 2021 I think and I started med school by then. ALSO, I was a majorette captain in high school for 3 years and that cadence at 52:24 was one of the songs we danced to and EVERYONE (even the super rich schools) loved it! Patiently awaits for him to continue the Harry Potter series 🥲

That's the problem with many of these college organizations. You gotta put up with too much bs from the so-called leaders and upperclassmen. They want to humble and humiliate you for absolutely no reason. It doesn't take all that to be a member of any organization. I really wish young college kids had more self-respect, so they dont let people treat them any kind of way just so they can say they are a part of something.

Yes , while I do agree in some sort of fashion and especially with the extremes hazing that different organizations do or have done in the pass. Also, I can understand some of it too. The workouts and stuff in the movie particularly was getting them ready for the field. The morning and being on time is a lesson everyone needs to learn... I can even understand the hair shaving because it was a consequence. It would be one thing to just make them do it. But it was a consequence to not following directions of reading the manual. Which reading the manual is important because you need to know the rules so you know if your following them or not... The thing I would say was basically some of the way he would talk to him , but they addressed that. He had his own personal beef with him. But also sometimes you gotta talk a little crazy to people and let them know their place. He did it to Devon the most because he was outspoken and a leader. Had he not , the whole line would have followed suit and gotten out of control... But I do think there is a line btw hazing and discipline... But also I agree it is a learning experience for young adults.

Not going to lie here... First time watching your channel, I like your editing process, and how the movie is laid out... However I recommend being a little more educated on band movies before reacting, because clearly you have no idea how difficult a lot of those moves are! Towards the end you were complaining that they were doing too much and not saying anything and then they weren't doing enough pick your poison.... Like bro they were literally playing upside down and that wasn't enough for you!!! And then you got extremely excited over the opposing team just by sliding their sticks across their drum... Plus the girl who was doing those symbol motions in the beginning of the competition at the end, those moves are very hard I used to play the symbols and band also and doing that shit hurts.... The people you were saying you liked are also called the color guard.... Running around in building stamina is for long hour performances and marching and dancing all while staying on beat, staying in rhythm, matching pitch, and staying harmonised. If you were never a band kid or even researched anything about band you would have absolutely no idea how difficult this is.
