First Time Watching! Game of Thrones 4x10 "The Children"

"The Children" WOW what a wild finale!! Skeleton fights, biting people's ears off, TYRION!!😱 AHHH!! What a great season, definitely my favorite so far! We got rid of my least favorite character and got introduced my new favorite (even if he did meet his end far too soon in my opinion RIP Oberyn). Can't wait to see what's in store for season 5!

If anyone is curious as to what a ''proper northern drink'' would be, it's most definitely some type of fermented milk alcohol. This is a real life beverage popular in nomadic cultures.

Around here a "proper northern drink" is apple cider [non homogenized] left out on the window sill for a couple of weeks to "mature".

@@mawrthvallis2788 I'm a beekeeper here in Canada with Nordic roots, so my ''proper northern drink'' is mead made from a 150 year old family recipe. I pollinate an apple orchard and in spring when they blossom I use that honey specifically for the mead. Then add spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, etc. Then it's aged for at least 6 months and we celebrate on winters solstice and share bottles with the farmers. Farmers always get a share of the honey harvests and a bottle of mead. Tastes just like apple pie.

One thing I've noticed in the dozens of rewatches I've done that is that there always seems to be ravens (either physically present or heard cawing off screen) in almost every important or impactful event/scene we've witnessed so far...

The mighty Tywin dying on the toilet by his own dwarf son. Also I love how Tyrion said before killing him "I am your son" considering that Tywin was gonna have him killed. Like father like son. And I think Arya tried to convince herself that she didn't kill the hound because she wanted him to suffer but I honestly feel like deep down she actually cared for him on some level and didn't want him to die. They have very different cultures from the different sides of the wall and consider eachother enemies. Most people from south of the wall would rather that the people north of it to get killed by white walkers than to let them passed the wall. Out of spite but also because of security reasons

I'm not totally sure that Tywin was going to let Tyrion die, especially with Tommen as King. We can't even be sure Tommen would allow Tywin to do it even if did want to. Tywin immediately knew that it was Jaime helping him. Yet he took no precaution against that possibility. But Tyrion, being a whore monger, just like Tywin is revealed to be, despite his protestations against being with whores, could be a reminder to Tywin of the aspects of himself that he doesn't like. So maybe he would have let him die, like he convinces himself he wants his vice of whoring to die. There are probably other aspects of their personalities and character that Tywin despises about them both, but I think the whoring is meant to be the symbolic overall representation of those. I guess I just like to believe that Tywin was going to honor what he told Jaime, and he was going to use his power to save his son despite the verdict of the gods. Just like he didn't push him into the sea. Because, he's a Lannister.

At the beginning, you were curious about the odd title "The Children"... as with many episodes, the title gets many references through the episode... The obvious one is the "Children of the forest" who were guarding the 3-eyed Raven and greeted Bran's group. Then you have the Lannister siblings... Cersei rebels against Tywin and threatens to expose the incest, destroying the family. Jaime defies him by freeing Tyrion, and Tyrion kills him. Tywin's children. Then we get Arya, one of the children that Brienne was sworn to find and protect. Also, Dany is driven to imprison her two smaller dragons (probably for the misdeeds of Drogon), and to her, the dragons are her children.

in the books Tyrion kills Shae in cold blood. It's changed in the show, she grabbed a knife, Tyrion could plead self-defense.

First time I've seen someone suspicious of the man with his daughter's body! GOT has got to you! A fantastic performance by the late Darren Kent, however. Two minutes but memorable. He passed away in August this year. The thing I've always wondered is, was Shae with Tywin all along? Was she a spy in Tyrion's bed? Either way the hypocrisy is awful. Great reaction as always.

The reaction to the skeletons outside the cave was gold! The Hound and Brienne standoff too. I don't know if she enjoys the action scenes, but her reactions to the action scenes are my favorite parts. I think the people involved in creating the gore, and coordinating the vicious fighting, would feel like they did a great job and feel really good at what they do, when they see people react like her.

In the books they really beat into your head that Jojen "knew how he would die" he'd always be saying to keep going, this isn't how I die etc. I hope this isn't considered a spoiler because they never actually tell you who he is in the show but it's known in the books/lore but the 3 Eyed Raven is a VERY famous character in Westeros history and related to several characters we've met in the show.

the fact they fail tyrion killing tywin was such a red flag, its so fucking stupid he just goes to tywin for no reason and from here on the show turns to complete shit. There is only one good upcoming story arc from here on out, its amazing how fast the show just turns to shit.

Stop already. The show still remains extremely solid no matter how many times you book readers try to smear it down. In terms of its entertainment value GOT remains strong. Yes the quality of writing dips but doesn't mean there aren't alot of good moments still. Chapter 6 is literally one of the best seasons and 7 has alot of cool little payoffs and top 3 battles. Show is solid.

Season 6 is really bad, it feels like a first draft story ideas that are not planned out whatsoever. the payoff of episode 2 is proof of that and the final battle which is so terrible.

You know the Bible says for a slave to respect his master as the christ respects the lord for some slaves as we see here slavery wasn't chains but a certain freedom from chains, and Danny puts her dragons in chains making them a slave to her, instead of a master with a purpose like the old man, the metaphors are just eerie.

Nah, Tyrion's biggest character flaw is how quickly and deeply he falls in love and then acts irrationally because of it. He's brilliant but all too human.
