There's a lot of things they changed from the books. Some I'm not a huge fan of, some are magic. In the books Brienne and the Hound never meet. That fight between them is a thing of magic. Not only is it an amazing fight, but it really solidifies how strong Brienne is, that she defeated the Hound, and also it really affirms the shift in the Hound from opportunist to guardian. He doesn't say pleasantries. He doesn't mince words. So when he says "Aye That's what I am doing", You know he actually means it. Finally, Arya coming to terms with truly being on her own. She's bounced from guardian figure to guardian figure Since Ned died and each one has offered her help and wisdom and each one has died. With the hound though as much of a bastard as he was, he personified the undefeatable guardian. Who had Armor and a big fuggin sword. She just ran out of alive family members, no where is safe. and now the Despicable but dependably strong guardian is there broken and dying and she is realizing that she is truly alone. She has to do what she needs to survive. She takes his coin because he won't need it and it echoes the farmers and she knows there was some truth in it and she despises him for it. So she doesn't kill him. Why dull her blade. It's part spite and part cold calculation and partly that she doesn't hate him anymore. But she also doesn't love him. She simply understands him and the world he inhabits and the struggle between the ideals she was raised on and the hard reality of life clashing in her head, she just lets it all go. Walks away from it. It's crazy how much character development they give in that one fight. Glorious.

I imagine Shae was given the choice to stand by Tyrion and be accused as an accomplice or else agree to go along with a crafted lie making Tyrion appear guilty. Having lost Tyrion as a means of support, she returned to the world's oldest profession with Tywin.

Cersei talking to Tywin in the beginning is one of the most ice cold acting moments I’ve ever seen. The way Tywin scrambles around saying “no no I don’t believe you” and Cersei does not break her eye contact and then looks him up and down and smirks and says “yes you do” sooo cold

I love that this episode is titled "The Children". Obvously, it is in reference to The Children of the Forest, but it also refers to the dragons (Dany's children), Tyrion (Tywin's child), Jon Snow (Ned's child), Arya and Bran (Cat and Ned's children). Love the double meaning.

One of my top 3 favorite finales. Tywin played his last game of thrones on a throne. You win or you die. Fun fact: the finale aired on Father’s Day in 2014. Another Emmy Award worthy performance for Peter Dinklage! The reason he didn’t leave immediately was Tyrion wanted to confront Tywin on why he sentenced him to die knowing he was innocent. Tyrion was willing to risk his chance of escape to gain closure on the issue. Some months later after Father’s Day, they showed the last two episodes of Season 4 in select IMAX theaters! The surround sound system was incredible! Because of that and even though I already seen it, the sound of that crossbow going off startled me! Jumped out of my seat a little.

Remember on Joffrey's wedding day, Cersei pointed out Shae to Tywin and said, "She's the one I told you about." Tywin directed Cersei to have Shae brought to his chambers in the Tower of the Hand after the wedding. Varys then warned Tyrion that Shae was in danger, and that's why Tyrion sent her away to Essos. But she was either intercepted before making it to the ship, or she was taken off the ship before it could set sail. Obviously, we didn't see any of this onscreen, but it's pretty clear she made a deal with Tywin. Probably her life in exchange for her testimony against Tyrion, which she gave, thinking Tyrion had never loved her and was only using her the whole time. In her mind, she was a woman scorned. She probably offered herself to Tywin, seeing the advantages of becoming The Hand's mistress, and he accepted. It was a convenient arrangement for them both. Until Tyrion showed up. lol

The Hounds Loyalty to Arya comes from the fact that she's a little girl plain and simple I think , he's a lot of things , but he's shown he isn't a predator and protected Sansa as well

As Joffrey's sworn guard he had no choice but to do what Joffrey said early in the show. The hound originally took Arya for the chance for gold. Through their travels, the hound taught Arya some hard truths about the world that she was sheltered from by being a girl from a noble family and she taught him by showing him you can be good yet ruthless when you really needed to be . They both grew so much in their travels together. ( People think different things about her walking away from the hound, but my opinion is that the hound was no longer on her list of names.)

One of my favorite things about this universe is that the fantasy element is definitely there, but often in the background. I'm not a big fantasy guy, but I love this dynamic. Some of the fantasy stuff, like dragons, are more in your face, but the world around them isn't something like Lord of the Rings. I love that.

LOTR has almost no magic in it at all. Since LOTR is from the POV of the Hobbits, there's a theory that everything termed magic in LOTR is just the simplistic Hobbits misunderstanding what we would call technology.
@TheOriginalDogLP
@TheOriginalDogLP 2 ай бұрын
@@gunkulator1 "almost no magic" is quite the exaggeration, especially if we think of all magical elements, not just magic in the sense of spell casting. The races are magical, the monsters are magical, there are literal wizards, magical items (the ring at the most important ofc), ghosts, nazgul, and much more.
@gunkulator1
@gunkulator1 2 ай бұрын
@@TheOriginalDogLP Again, words like "wizard" and "magic" are just the terms Hobbits use because they are greatly ignorant about most things. If someone from just 400 years ago was suddenly brought to modern times, they would call much of our technology magic or witchcraft and explaining it to them would take years. And that's assuming you could explain it at all. Can you explain how the internet you are using to read this works?

Other than being grouchy all of the time, and killing the “Butcher’s boy” on Prince Joffrey’s orders, the Hound is not a bad person. He literally protected both Sansa and Arya. He gives excuses like ransom but I’m sure he would do it without any payment. He acts the tough guy because he has gone through life without being loved by anyone but he cares about honor. His “duty” is from his own heart.

Tywin couldn't do anything against cersei and jaime.. he needed them both.. Also he wants power so he couldn't out the fact that tommen is a bastard either.. that would mean he would lose his claim on the throne too.. so for now tywin was kinda stuck and it was a small victory for cersei.. also i always felt jaime was glue of lannister family.. Every lannister loved him and he loved all his family members back. So him freeing tyrion makes sense.. jaime and tyrion always had a good relationship since childhood.. there were hints of that which i realised in 2nd-3rd watch.. 1) tyrion chose jaime as his fighter when he was captured by Lady Catlyn cause he trusted his brother.. 2) cersei told jaime 'you always pitied him, hated by his father and sister' which shows he had soft corner for tyrion since childhood 3) in oberyn's story if we focus he said 'cersei pinched your cock so hard i thought she might pull it off untill your brother made her stop'. So unlike cersei, jaime was never vicious towards tyrion and protected him from the start.

I do believe that Shae truly did love Tyrion up until he called her whore and that he didn’t love her only to get her to leave and be safe. She felt totally betrayed and turned on him then, going to Cersie and Tywin for the trial and that’s when she got with Tywin. My take on it anyway.

At the purple wedding, Cersei points out who Shae is to Tywin and he says "Have her brought to the Tower of the Hand." With Joffrey dead and Tyrion accused, I'm sure Tywin at that meeting offered Shae the choice to stand by Tyrion and also be accused as his accomplice or else agree to testify to a made up lie to save her own life.

@@gunkulator1 the conversation definitely happened but i don't think tywin needed to threaten her, i think she was eager to get her revenge on tyrion and probably jumped at the chance to betray him AND to fuck his dad. when she said the "i'm just a whore" line to tyrion in the trial to signal to him why she was betraying him, it seems pretty clear that her motivation was purely to attack tyrion, not fear of repercussions from tywin.
