Fun Fact: In the scene where Phil says "Two words; I am retired." And Hercules counts three, it's a bit of a wordplay joke because in greek 'I am retired' is "Είμαι συνταξιούχος" which is two words.

I mean the titans were the OGs before the gods, the problem being that hades has no desire to free the remaining titans cause one of them is his father who ate him so you know, family issues. Of course there’s a lot more information that is inaccurate but I honestly enjoy the film regardless but just to vent the bullet points from my head imma just list all the stuff that was seriously changed. - Zeus and Hera are indeed siblings and also married, big oof - Heracles (hercules’ Greek name) is the child of Zeus and a mortal woman - Heracles was named after Hera in an attempt to keep her from killing him as she tended to do to the offspring of zeus’ affairs. - (it does not work, Hera still hates him. Sort of understandable, she is the goddess of marriage and she’s married to the god of one night stands) - you see Dionysus for a whole three frames but I do feel like mentioning that the god of wine has always been described as attractive. - Hades was the least problematic of his brothers, the biggest stain on his reputation was the kidnapping of Persephone which original tellings largely blames on Zeus because he was very much the one who orchestrated the entire kidnapping. - Hades and Heracles never had any sort of beef, they just existed. - Achilles’ heel was from the one part his mother’s hand covered when she dunked him in the river styx to make him invulnerable. He still would’ve died in battle since that was what was prophesied. - the titans were the parents to the gods, and again, hades had no desire to free them since one of them was his father who still ate him. - hades was also very comfortable in his position as ruler of Hades since the others may have their living worshippers but eventually everyone became a citizen of Hades. - Megaera was Heracles’ first wife, Hera drives him mad one day and it causes him to kill Meg and their kids.

If you think Hercules had a hard time with Megara, you should watch the Hercules TV series with all his teenager romancing. The two characters referenced in Meg's past are actually in it.

So in Greek mythology Hades is actually pretty problematic and chill except for the Persephone incident. And it was Zeus and Hera who are married, even though they are siblings. Hades, Poseidon, Zeus, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera are all siblings. Hercules was actually named Heracles instead, Hercules was his Roman form. He was born from an affair with Zeus and a mortal woman, and had nothing to do with Hades. In fact it was Hera who made his life horrible, upset that Zeus had an affair. He was not a god but a demigod but they turned him into a god for all the great tasks he had preformed.

In some instances the story about Hades and Persephone is that Hades was lamenting about liking Persephone to Zeus who was in these versions Persephone's father. Zeus basically said "if you want her that much go take her" because we all know that dysfunctional toaster of a god doesn't know what consent means which Hades mistook as permission from the father, in those days it was common the father who would often choose a suitor for his daughter. Thing is Demeter did not agree with this and was #pissed. In a depressed rage she stopped growing crops and basically brought the first winter that caused a bunch of deaths. When Persephone was brought back it was found she had eaten six pomegranate seeds meaning that for each seed she'd have to spend a month in the underworld with Hades and every time she does Demeter gets upset. Hence the seasonal shift. And even in some versions Persephone didn't mind going from flower nymph/ spring goddess to a Queen. I'm not saying this is the right story but it's nicer... I guess.

Hercules is his Roman name and Hercales is his Greek name. Maybe that's another reason why he felt like he didn't belong in that town 🤔 Hera is shown as Hercules’ loving mother and Hades is the one trying to kill Hercules.. lol. In the Greek myths, Hera was not his mother, he was conceived from a human, making him a demigod from birth, then a god later. Hera hated Heracles and tried to kill him when he was a toddler because he was the illegitimate son of Zeus, her husband. She continued to make Heracles’ life miserable. She was the goddess of marriage, so it made her really angry when Zeus was not faithful to her. Also, I'm glad Disney changed Meg's fate of being killed by Hercales.

The biggest disservice this movie does is saying that Zeus and Hera had a good marriage. Hera hated Hercules (originally Heracles-'Hera's Glory' to try and appease Hera from his many infidelities, of which Heracles was a result of) and did everything she could to ruin his life (she is the one who sent him on quests and after monsters and tried to kill him, and eventually made him go mad and kill his wife and kids) The second biggest disservice was making Hades a comically evil baddie, when he originally was a major reason the gods won against the titans in the first place, and there's really nothing in any of the myths that suggests that Hades ever tried to take over as King of the gods (unlike Poseidon).
