Fun Fact: For the scene where Harry and Marv almost hit Kevin with their van, they actually shot the entire scene "backwards" for safety reasons. So, Kevin screams, the van backs away from him and then he walks backwards out of the way. Then, they played the footage backwards to make it seem like he was walking out in front of their van and they almost hit him. Also, the scene where the fake Santa goes to drive off and his car breaks down was 100% unscripted. The car actually did stall out when the actor tried to drive off so his reaction was totally legit. The scene where they put the tarantula on Marv's face, they initially told the actor they were going to use a fake one and at the last second, used a real one without telling the actor. That look of fear on his face was true and genuine. The main issue was when they actually shot it, he had to not actually scream else he would spook the tarantula and end up possibly getting bit, so his screaming was actually silent and they went back and added in a recording of him screaming afterwards. And when you think about it, it makes sense as to why Kevin wouldn't call the cops right away. The first time he saw Harry, he was dressed as a cop. He then saw Harry as him and Marv finished robbing another home and later overheard them talking about coming back to rob his place. He is just a kid so maybe he is thinking that since he saw Harry dressed as a cop and Harry is now trying to rob is house, that he can't trust calling the cops.

So that's actually three families worth of kids! There's kevin, his parents and his siblings, who live in the house. Then there's the jerky uncle and his wife and kids that are there too, visiting/going to paris together. Then there's the kids of an unseen aunt and uncle, who live in paris. Their kids are in America, I'm assuming visiting family or for school. They're all travelling together, Kevin's family and Jerky Uncle's family, to visit the aunt and uncle that live in Paris, while the kids that live in paris are going home to their parents.
@krisfrederick50019 ай бұрын
I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this certainly...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese. It's actually a tragedy...
@Adrianne5199 ай бұрын
Yeah, sadly they didn’t see each other in this movie, John Candy filmed all his scene in just 24 hours with no sleep & I don’t think he was even paid, he did it as a favor to John Hughes. And your correct about his funeral monologue being improvised but also all of his dialog along with Katherine O’Hara’s with him was improvised. You never would have known, they worked so good off each other!
@bloodwolfgaming92699 ай бұрын
He couldn't actually scream during the spider scene because he didn't want to spook the tarantula and end up getting bit. So, he actually had to scream silently and then they recorded him actually screaming separately and added in. But the look of terror on his face was real for sure.
@Galiant20109 ай бұрын
The reason I think this movie holds up so incredibly well is that they didn't just skimp over the little details. All of the setup in the beginning pays off, from the neighbor, the spider, to all the details of how Kevin was left behind. And then the neat little way it wraps up with the touching moment of the neighbor reuniting with his family, but it's a comedy! So you're immediately snapped back to the comedy with his brother yelling about his room. It's just such a delightfully perfect well wrapped comedy. It is interesting, though, hearing some of the language used so frequently compared to modern stuff lol. They make good use out of "hell" and "ass" for being a kid/family movie. I remember Shrek surprising me with his line "Well I have to save my ass!" but it's the double entendre of him referring to Donkey. And that was just one time in the movie, vs like a dozen times in this.
@toodlescae9 ай бұрын
Kevin has an attitude but after seeing how his family treats him you understand why. 1. They said thd phones would be out for awhile after the electricity was restored. 2. I figured the old man next door helped Kevin clean up and probably kept an eye on him from his house till his family got home once he realized he was alone....except they forgot Buzz's room.

As I understand the dynamics of Kevin's family, his dad is one of 3 brothers. One brother, Kevin's Uncle Rob, moved to Paris fairly recently, and his children are still in the US finishing up school. The other brother is Kevin's nasty uncle, Frank. Kevin is the youngest of 5 siblings, with 2 older sisters, Megan and Linnie (the one who called Kevin "incompetent" in French), and 2 older brothers, Buzz and Jeff (the one who looks like Ron Weasley from Harry Potter). The rest of the kids in the house at the beginning are Kevin's cousins, Heather, Sondra, Rod, Tracy, Steffan, Brook and Fuller. Simple as a government bill, right?

@Lycanthromancer15 ай бұрын
It could, if some details were updated. Kevin's phone broke (or he was never given one). The family phones didn't charge overnight due to the power outage, and nobody had battery left come morning. The burglar alarms were turned off because Kevin figured out the passcode (or the parents turned them off and never turned them on again; maybe one turned the alarm off, and the other came by later and turned it off, thinking they were turning it on). The parents were so busy wrangling all the other kids during flight security checks that they didn't realize Kevin was there; that, and a strangers' kid was wearing a coat and hat similar to Kevin's and kept his back to them so they thought he was with them. Etc.

"You guys give up? Or are you thirsty for more?" Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Hope Davis, Paula Newsome, Kristin Minter, and Tracy J. Connor. Family Affair Fact: The boy who played Kevin's cousin Fuller is Macaulay Culkin's little brother Kieran Culkin in his feature film debut. All In Fact: Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern felt indifferent about the movie's potential during shooting, so they intentionally gave over-the-top performances, neither one of them believed this movie would become a massive success. Mrs. Doubtfire Award Fact: The picture Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) finds of Buzz's (Devin Ratray) girlfriend was a picture of a boy made up to look like a girl, because director Chris Columbus thought it would be too cruel to make fun of a girl like that. The boy that was used in the photo was art director Dan Webster's son. What Script Fact: The line "You guys give up, or are you thirsty for more?" was improvised by Macaulay Culkin. Marv's lines "Why the hell are you dressed like a chicken?" and "Maybe he committed suicide?" were improvised by Daniel Stern. John Candy filmed his part in only one day, albeit a twenty-three-hour day. Almost all of his dialogue was improvised. Thank You Very Much Fact: There is a legend that Elvis Presley (who died in 1977) made a cameo in this movie. Many of those who believe that Elvis is still alive maintained that the heavily bearded man standing in the background of the scene where Mrs. McCallister is shouting at the desk clerk (just before she meets John Candy) as Elvis. They asserted for years that the man is in the correct age range (Elvis would have been around 55 at the time), makes a head movement that Elvis frequently made during concerts, and that no record has ever been found about this particular actor's participation in the movie. The theory was finally debunked in 2018, when investigative journalists identified the extra as a man called Gary Richard Grott, who had passed away from a heart attack in February 2016. Grott's family was able to confirm that it was Grott in the movie, and also revealed that he had been working regularly as an extra on several Chris Columbus' movies, although Home Alone (1990) was the first one that he actually appeared in.

23:31 I had a similar first car. It was almost as old as I was, and was a hand-me-down from my parents, who got it as a hand-me-down from my grandparents. It was dark blue where it still had paint, and dull gray where it didn't. The ceiling adhesive had worn off, so the driver had to use one arm to keep the drooping ceiling out of his/her line of sight. It went just fine, but had trouble stopping, as it was a bulky old sedan with old, underpowered brakes. I affectionately dubbed it "POJ", short for "Pile Of Junk".

My best friend Nick and I would have b.b. gun wars. Randomly the way we decided to try it was when he came out to the house and brought his b.b. gun and we realized that we had the exact same make and model. So it was even odds in firepower.....plus we were curious how badly it hurt. (Depends where it hits) We WERE smart enough to wear gun range quality eye protection. We WERENT smart enough to wear anything but shorts, sandals, and t shirts. Before long we had to do it on the sly. My cousin was in town and we were having a war. We decided to just do Everyone against everyone. My cousin had a pretty smart idea of hiding in our tree house. But Nick (even to this day) has the best aim of anyone Ive ever met. He shot through a square window that was only 1' by 1' at the exact moment he popped his head up. He caught a b.b. to the forehead that bled....a lot. His mom came to see what was up and LOST HER MIND. We managed to keep all of our guns from being taken By convincing the parents that a ricochet BB did that to him.

But what made her really famous is probably $chitts Creek with Eugene Levy.

Not all the kids lived there. It was Kevin's family plus his aunt, uncle and cousins.

How much is milk where you're at? Here in wisconsin, it varies, but it's only like 2.30 for a gallon. Love the reactions look forward to the next one
@NewfieMovieReactions9 ай бұрын
Here in Nova Scotia, Canada it's just under $7 CAD for a 3L. 3L is 0.792516 gallon according to google. Haha. Our Canadian dollar sucks, as well as the cost of everything is through the roof.

They had their whole extended family staying there before the flight. Buzz is his brother, and I think he has a sister but the rest are cousins

Buzz, Jeff, Linny and Megan are his siblings. You can tell by the family photo Kevin kisses goodnight.

Man I love shrimp. Now I do have a friend that loves Fish & Chips but hates Shrimp, so being a seafood fan doesn't automatically mean you'll like Shrimp. But if you do have any interest in seafood, it's at least worth trying them.

McCauley only made $110,000 in the first Home Alone?! That’s blasphemy because that was my favorite one! He should have at least gotten a cool mil because this is the one in the franchise that everyone remembers the most!

Home alone 3 is my favorite
@bidishah9 ай бұрын
I respect your choices, but the third one is widely considered to be the worst one. The change of actor definitely did not help. The first 2 are going to go down in time as classics.

@@bidishah I found Alex's traps funnier. And the reason he was left home alone reasonable and not from bad parenting.
@serenitytoepper9 ай бұрын
@@bidishah Plus I found everything that funny in that movie. The bird, the rat in the pants scene. I laughed harder than I ever did with Kevin no offense. Just how I saw it. I do like Home alone 2 a bit more the first one but the first one were interduce to Kevin.
@serenitytoepper9 ай бұрын
@@bidishah Plus, if you really think about it. Kevin had to idiots who just robbed houses for a living. But Alex took on 5 bad guys agonist one kid. I mean the plot was bigger the traps were bigger set ups I found it really funny with the animals helping out. I loved this movie a lot because of the extra changes they made to it. Kevin had to defend the home which is true, and he did a good job, and his movies are funny. But this one has a special place in my childhood heart.

I can't understand how that many people in a house and a group didn't see Kevin at all in the van or on the plane or trying to go through the Airport security. Trust me I have traveled that way. So how they didn't know he wasn't there until they were already in midair is sad. That poor boy could run away, and it would take a week before they noticed him gone. I find it rather hard for a huge family in the numbers that they are traveling with and no one even notices that Kavin is not there? Not in the van sure the one girl counted the other kid by mistake, but what about when they reached the airport or driving to the airport that's a lot of eyes seeing whole lot of nothing. Kavin is so invisible to his family. I have no sympathy for that mom or anyone in his family. I love the whole robbers trying to break in and him defending the home that is funny stuff, But I don't excuse the family at all. An 8-year-old alone. I am surprised Kevin wasn't removed from the family. Shit in today's day that what would have happened. It's a good movie. But honestly the family is irresponsible as hell.

home alone two is worth a watch but its basically just a retread of the first movie but takes place in new york. I like home alone 3 but most people don't, and the rest of the movies should not exist.
